Awful
Awful conditions. Awful game. But incredible fight again.
The passion showed by Hart, Bardsley, Tarkowski and Wood when the whistle went showed how much it meant.
Huge win.

Got to say I think Pope will make a huge difference, did someone glue Hart to his line ?

Re: Awful
Hart is terrible, people need to look past the shot stopping (which every keeper is decent at).
Hot take - worst number one at Burnley since Brian Jensen.
That no doubt controversial/about to be decimated by some opinion (OPINION people) apart, I’m very happy with the fight and determination shown again. I think Bardsley has been tremendous these last two games.

Re: Awful
Today showed just how much we miss Pope. This game would have been meat and drink to him. We would never have been under the type of pressure we were because he claims absolutely anything in and around the six yard box.
Hart directly at fault for at least four or five efforts Brighton had towards the end by sticking to his line. Excellent shot stopper, but he is not the type of keeper you want in a relegation battle where you’re facing high balls and set pieces.
I’ve long faced the fact that Heats is never going to displace him, but Pope has to be number 1 as soon as he’s fit.

Re: Awful
Ironically Hart was poor today and kept a clean sheet. I can live with that. Most matches he’s been better than most. I still think the jersey belongs to Nick Pope.jedi_master wrote:Hart is terrible, people need to look past the shot stopping (which every keeper is decent at).

Re: Awful
I think he would in a very specific system that I called out on another thread:SGr wrote:He doesn’t influence games on that level anymore. It’s sad but there we go
——————-Heaton/Hart
———-Tarkowski—-Mee——-Gibson
—————————Westwood
—————Cork———————-Defour
——JBG—————-Vydra—————-Brady
—————————-Barnes
However, it’s never been tried, probably for good reason as I’m not a football manager. I think that would get lots out of Defour, unfortunately though he’s a huge luxury player you almost need to build your team around to utilise.

Re: Awful
I think the keeper jersey is a toss-up between Heaton and Pope, and the one up front can be any of Wood, Barnes, Vokes, but the rest I agree with, Jedi. Not going to happen though, especially now as Dyche will feel he has a reborn momentum with the last two efforts

Re: Awful
We panicked on the ball in the last ten minutes , think dyche could have alleviated this pressure by boosting our attack as we had nothing to offer up front , wood cannot play on his own, Barnes was all over the pitch chasing everything so why not take wood off and put vokes on who knows how to win the ball and hold it up. You simply cannot allow teams to push you so deep, we got lucky today they didn't score. If vydra is not up to the job then get another striker in with a bit of pace because we can't afford to go all season with what we have up top

I think the sub of Hendrick was perfect. We should also leave Lennon on half way. Infuriates me that we dont do this but hey ho.

Re: Awful
Thought it was a game that called out for Defour. With his close control on an awful day, and with the general amount of ball we were winning, he was the one player who could have set up Barnes and Wood properly, and we all know how much setting up Wood needs. Hope he comes back from injury soon, but not against the top sides where we seldom see the ball.

I'm not at all sure what Wood offers, berated by his own teammates for his lack of moment on a couple of occasions. Doesn't win a header, terrible touch, and no idea how to lay off a ball....what on earth has happened to this lad.

Re: Awful
Are there still people that think Defour will feature regularly for us ? Seriously ?
It won’t happen but if only in January we could sign a creative midfield player (one that is capable of getting on the pitch on a regular basis), a more viable option than the awful Lennon and some option up front than the endless rotation of the “lumps” (or “plank” in Wood’s case). Then we might have a chance of staying up.
Nothing I saw today would lead me to suggest we’re anything other than bottom three material. We need change.

I couldn’t disagree more re Defour - A luxury we can ill afford at the moment. I’d be taking Westwood into the trenches not Defour. Not a critisism of Defour, a lovely footballer but not a player who’s suited to a relegation battle imo

We are desperate for a solid midfielder who can tackle pass and run with the ball. Cork and Westwood are woeful and Defour is passed it.

Dunno, Huddersfield survived last season with two strikers who, by the looks of it, simply aren't cut out for English football!Ooogeorgeorgeoghani wrote:we can't afford to go all season with what we have up top
Re: Awful
To the naysayers .... Give your heads a wobble....
We are in a fight ... if you ain't up for it take a hike.
Winning ugly is far preferable to losing pretty.
I want to see the likes of Ben Mee berating players ... he is the captain thats his bloody job...
Brady and Hendrick touching foreheads telling each other off... its called passion.
3 points hard earned from a team that had a lot of possession in midfield but showed nothing till Murray came on up front. We showed today (and Wednesday our lads are up for the fight....) so come on Clarets fans get behind the team THEY NEED US TOO......

Re: Awful
We fought today and that is all I ask. 3 essential points.
WTF was Wood still on he pitch in the last 20 mins instead of Sam?. Does not understand the offside rule and for a big lad had no presence.
WTF do our 3 management team discuss re subs? The only way they were going to score was from a header, yet no Vokes and no Long in injury time. Unbelievable and that is constructive criticism not moaning.

Re: Awful
But from a managerial perspective it worked - 3 points, clean sheet, out of the bottom three ad most people I'm sure feeling much more positive about our chances because when we roll our sleeves up and battle we can nick those tight games against anyone outside the top six.
Given our awful start and our current (more effective) approach don't see an easy way back into the team for Defour. Top of the January shopping list has to be a combative, physical midfielder whose adept at all the ugly aspects of the game. If we're to survive TM will not be a place for the football purists between now and May.
I can see what SD is trying to do with Wood and you can't just write-off a £15M striker - but relegation has far more serious financial implications so personally it would be Vokes every time for me at present. The more players who carry the successful Dyche mantra onto the pitch the better.

Re: Awful
If we were awful what were Brighton ?
We certainly weren't pretty, but could easily have scored a couple more.
Good result, bad conditions which we adapted to, spoilt the game for Brighton and surely gives SD an idea what his best eleven are now.
