Re: RATE THE REF - Martin Atkinson V Brighton
I thought he was really poor yesterday. We could and should have had two penalties 2nd half. He was p!ss weak with their timewasting antics 1st half, where only a minute was added 1st half (and he didn't play the full minute), gave us absolutely nothing throughout, yet constantly gave Brighton free kicks for really minimal infringement.
It was up there with his "performance " a couple of seasons ago away at Hull when he sent Barnes off

It was incorrectly given but only because the flag should have already been up for offsideclaretspice wrote:We have - away at Arsenal two seasons ago in the last minute , given against Ben Mee for a near identical incident. You're quite right we weren't very happy, but the ex refs and pundits were unanimous it was correctly given as a penalty (and a yellow card).

Fair comment Tony - but I think the consensus was that as you say, but for the offside it would have been correctly given as a foul.

No. You posted the rules that clearly say that it is an indirect free-kick for dangerous play if there is NO contact.mdd2 wrote: According to those rules above an indirect FK i n the box should have been awarded for Bardley's incident.
Since there was, then the the only consideration for Martin Atkinson was whether the act of kicking Bardsley in the face (at approx. head height) was dangerous.

My first thought re the Bardsley incident was it's not a pen, but it is an indirect free kick in the box for "foot up". Others here feel it should have been a pen which it may have been. But whatever it was/should have been it was never "play on"!! I can't imagine what Atkinson was thinking.

Poor decision making and ignoring over the ball tackles.
Clear penalty also no attempt to stop Ryans timewasting and Brightons constant winging at every decusion againgst them

It was play on, so he could avoid any contentious decision.

He spoke to Bruno about the time wasting just after half way through the first half when Ryan was retrieving the ball from in front of the Brighton fans. Ryan then took the ball to the opposite side of the goal area, which he was perfectly entitled to do. In the event, we scored about 10 minutes later and Ryan then started to get a move on anyway.Woodleyclaret wrote:Poor decision making and ignoring over the ball tackles.
