Should have been red

Post by Roosterbooster » Tue Dec 11, 2018 8:17 pm

If Klopp didn’t like Ben Mee’s challenge, then Virgil Van Dyke’s deserved a straight red there!

demonstrates what a lottery tackling is these days-slides in studs up and clears ball: great tackle-slides in studs up and accidentally hits player as well: red or yellow

I’m not sure it’s the tackle that’s a lottery, only the official’s interpretation...

players have to realise that they can't have studs showing in the tackle-after all they don't need to

There does appear to have been a change in the thinking on this.
Previously if you played the ball first you could get away with murder. The new style is to be careful on the follow through. Either way that was never a foul.

I don't think Brian O' Neil would have lasted long in today's game with the refs nowadays. :D

Bloody nice tackle, that. Leading with the studs so it's a yellow but he's in control of the slide and while his foot is high, it isn't above the ball. Good solid yellow card tackle. Mee's was cleaner, though.

Mertens should have 'anticipated' the challenge and 'gone to ground' as was his right, because that's how football is supposed to be played these days.

I think he knows exactly what he's doing with that tackle, exactly what the bin dippers didn't like about Ramos, the dark arts.
Interesting what klopp says.

Cracking tackle, however, it is only a matter of a short time before every bit of physical contact will be penalised one way or another and we will be better off watching netball!

Yes they can. If the foot is on the ground, or very low, and hits the ball and not the man.

There is no excuse for going into a challenge with your studs up and certainly not that high up, it's dangerous as it can easily break a leg. Red card.
If he had challenged more controlled then it would be a good challenge.
It isn’t 1930 anymore.

Fair play to Klopp, he has come out today and said he overreacted after the Burnley game and has accepted that his players do carry out some robust challenges which could be deemed dangerous and now says it's part of the game.

Respect returns to Mr Klopp.

If only!? #hypocritcalwhinger #tosser
