Lennon in for his defensive duties then, I imagine.

Hope neither turn into long-term, mystery 'touch and go' injuries. I always fear this with Defour in particular.

Quite possibly, although it would always be partly for his pace on the counter-attack too (although I accept this has generally been a better theory than fact in his time with us).

Personally, I'd prefer to see Hendrick come in to play an "Arfield role" on the right hand side if we are playing 4-4-2. He's played there for Ireland, and he's capable of supplementing Cork and Westwood narrow when we need him to, as well as athletic and diligent enough to help Bardsley when necessary.

All 3 of our wingers are good defensively and do a good shift, but Lennon in particular is used to holding his width and he does struggle with our demands that he step inside at times when we're playing 4-4-2.

Given the importance of the Christmas campaign, not sure it is a complete disaster if JBG gets a bit of rest in during the next couple of weekends, and you can probably say the same about Defour.

I've may have missed it but what was the actual reason for Gudies injury on Sat? I assumed that it was just short term concussion but being doubtful for Sat. as well suggests not.

Sure, but I think that goes without saying.

With this game in mind are a number of Clarets about to equal Andy Farrell's record? - i.e. played for Burnley twice at Wembley????

Defour injured? Never. Hope JBG isnt long term though.
Hendrick to come in but I wouldn't mind seeing our young reserve winger get a go. But cant see that happening at Wembley.

I think the phrase "touch and go" sends a shiver down the spine of most Burnley fans.

Know what you mean ... but as Spurs are playing home games currently at Wembley it wouldn't count like cup/play-off matches m8

Still true though, but, yeah, not as significant

No point risking either of them in next 2 games. Save them for the Xmas period.

The team was Heaton, Lowton, Ward, Mee, Tarkowski, Gudmondsson, Cork, Defour, Brady, Arfield, Vokes. Subs used: Barnes, Wood, Westwood.

So probably Mee, Tarkowski, Cork, Brady, Barnes, Wood, Westwood, and Vokes if he comes on.

They must be fit for Everton and Huddersfield. That is priority.

I’m surprised we’ve not tried to utilise Hendrick in a little more of a ‘wider’ role. I’m not his biggest fan but could certainly see him being effective there, certainly defensively and if he can capture some of his form from last year for Ireland, offensively too.

Time to get rid of the injury prone Belgian, he may be talented but we’ve seen nowt but a few scraps and seemingly endless injuries in 2+ seasons . He can see out his years in Brugge unless Turkey offer him a season .

Injury prone Belgians are tricky to offload. Everyone has sussed that he represents poor value for money.
Shame really, I've enjoyed one or two moments of brilliance when he's been on the field.

Steven Defour had a great game at Wembley last season. I remember Defour keeping us in the game at 1-0 with great defensive play, clearing off our line. Later Chris Wood came on - and I think it was Steven Defour who played the perfect pass to put Wood in to score and bring back one point. (Happy to be corrected on latter, if my recall is off).

I'll take a draw on Saturday - whoever is starting for us.

It was Brady's through ball for Wood, Paul.

I reckon there would be plenty of clubs queueing up if City wanted to sell Dr Bruyne or Kompany.

I agree DC. He's sound defensively, has the engine for the job and covers the ground well. He also carries the ball well and I've always thought he does a lot of his best work in wider positions anyway.

Brady played the through ball to Wood. Defour did have a good game nonetheless.

Defour at the moment seems no massive loss but JBG not playing is a massive blow to us in my opinion. He would be first on my team sheet every week.

when do the Christmas Celebrations end in Belgium?

Defour has played over 50 games for Burnley which maybe an unfair statement because it seems like hes only completed a few of those games. for a "magician" I feel I should have more memorable moments from him.
Both him and JBG are amazing on their day but far too easily injured

I agree to an extent but I really think we play better with Brady, he seems to link the play better, given the choice though I would have them both starting

Brilliant technician Defour but its not worth all the aggro now its unsettling
You wait for him coming back from injury then a couple of games or so in he's injured again
We must work on things in training to accommodate these players coming back and putting work in then for it all to be stop and start not just Defour but so many players this season it's destructive with such a small squad.
It's not helping and I certainly not pinning my hopes on Defour has he is top of this list now how much in wages and rehabilitation have we spunked on this player and a part from seeing a few glimpses of game spitting passes and a couple decent goals that's your lot
We have not had value at all and it's been a bad signing in that respect I would try and off load but be surprised if we got a dime the MSL would probably find a place for him there is no point in keeping hold of him now as all them injuries play their toll eventually and that's why we have only seen bit parts of his capabilities Its not good enough for a club like ours we need solid contributors we bought a crock of the highest order in Defour his best days are long since gone with the talent inside if we where flying high we probably could have continued in this vain but considering our position we need to open up places for new recruits and its a position crying out for some stability.
