Realistic January wish list and rumours.
Who would you like us to be looking at realistically in the January window?
Any rumours you’ve heard of targets please add them in also.
For me I’d be looking at Ollie Watkins at Brentford, not so sure if Leicester could recall Harvey Barnes but I’d take him in a heartbeat.
An athletic central midfielder is required for sure, I can’t place a name though and I’d look at a Young right back too

Leicester are willing to sell a few apparently.
They tend to have athletic players.
I would love Marc Albrighton though.

Re: Realistic January wish list and rumours.
I think it's realistic that we won't sign anybody. If we do, I'll be surprised, and hope it's a central midfielder. Someone with a good eye for a pass, who can also grab the game by the gonads when needed.

Do you think Garlick doesn't like these big cheques the premier league provide?

Re: Realistic January wish list and rumours.
I think it's perfectly realistic. I'm sure we'll go for players, but if our criteria isn't met, then I think we'll carry on with what we have. I do hope that's not the case though, as I think to stay up we have to strengthen our central midfield.Quickenthetempo wrote:Realistic we won't sign anybody?

Re: Realistic January wish list and rumours.
I think we need to look at Jordan Pickford ...
After all we are a little low on England Goalkeepers
Joking apart .... a tough tackling midfielder in the Marney / Barton mode and a tricky winger......
Come on you Clarets

Unfortunately think we may have spent our winger budget on Lennon.

Danny Drinkwater would be great in our midfield but is he happy sitting on Chelseas bench coining it in.

Re: Realistic January wish list and rumours.
There'll be a clamour for exciting overseas signings and youth - and there will be a time for that - but I'm not sure players who will take time to settle should be too of our lists right now.
As midfielders go, I believe James McCarthy is now fit after his broken leg but can't get a game at Everton- you can argue we probably don't need another midfielder feeling his way back from injury, but he's exactly the sort of player we need and a half season loan could suit all parties.
Agree with the Albrighton shout as well too. If we're looking to the Championship, the likes of Lolley and Roofs would seem fair targets, but the challenge will always be tempting then while their clubs might go up and we might go down.

Neal Maupay at Brentford seems to know where the net is and is only young.
Jake Livermore or Adam Clayton (cue the U2 jokes) would probably add a bit more steel and energy to the midfield.
I don't think we need loads in possibly a winger too Hernandez at Leeds or Joe Lolly at Forest maybe?

Incredible comment given how SD himself has said numerous times that we didn't manage to get the required number of players in during the most recent summer window.FactualFrank wrote:I think it's realistic that we won't sign anybody. That, coupled with our position in the league, suggests to me that not bringing in anybody during January would be disastrous.
Midfielder, winger, forward/no 10 and possibly a right back is what I would be looking at this January.

Absolutely no way we will sign 4 players in January. If we can get a central midfielder and a wide player or forward, we will have done OK. If we sign more than 2 - certainly for the first team - I'll be amazed.

Agreed. 1 or 2 could be enough, but 0 still a very real possibility. Fingers crossed.claretspice wrote:Absolutely no way we will sign 4 players in January. Re: Realistic January wish list and rumours.
Realistically it could be zero, I would imagine the price tag will increase as we are in a relegation battle, top end championship players may believe they have a better chance of playing in the PL staying where they are and don't think the club will break the wage structure.

Re: Realistic January wish list and rumours.
To get players to come to Burnley is difficult. If we closer to mid table rather than bottom 3 we have a chance.
Top 8 teams in Championship will be reluctant to part with anyone, so probably rules out Jay and Dawson. Teams at the bottom of the PL will not want to help a rival team.So PL teams with a bigger squad may be the route we go down. Albrighton can play right back or wide right. Andy King is an experienced centre mid, so both make sense. McArthur has had too many injury problems for me.
However seeing as this is a realistic wish list, I would go James Forrest at Celtic or Adam Reach as wide options. Dack at Blackburn or Roofe from Leeds as a number 10 options and a cheeky bid for Jonjo Shelvey to replace Defour.

Re: Realistic January wish list and rumours.
Definitely need a CM with some bite,Defour is too irony prone.
Drinkwater's a viable option my only concern would by how match-fit he will be,any signings we make in January have to hit the ground running
Ideally we'd sign a No 10 but then that's what Vydra's been signed for isn't it.
Thinking longer-term Lawrence Shankland at Ayr United has been banging in the goals 26 already,i know it's a lesser standard but he's only 23 and out of contract next May,i'd think 500k would be enough to secure his services,Swansea and Sunderland are among the teams chasing him.
Whether he could make the step up IDK but even if he didn't we would break even at worst and wages wouldn't be a problem.
Whatever happens in this window we have to be pro-active from day 1,not waiting for weeks before making bids.

Not signing anyone who could improve our starting eleven is entirely plausible if we're in a relegation battle.

Secondly, regarding your comments above, we will only "have done ok" if the players brought in are signings that will enhance our starting XI. Players like N'Koudou won't help.
Thirdly, I would rule out the possibility of players leaving in January....which would mean they require replacing. We haven't got a big squad as it is.

Re: Realistic January wish list and rumours.
I wouldn't like to go one way or the other, as I think either are just as likely. I hope we do, of course. But when February comes if we haven't brought anybody in good enough to walk straight into our first 11 (in terms of quality), I won't be surprised. It's a massive window for us. But just because we need (IMO) to bring 1-2 players in, that doesn't necessarily mean we will.Silkyskills1 wrote:So are you saying you think we will or you think we won't? Re: Realistic January wish list and rumours.
Dyche only does loans to make up the numbers, e.g. Bamford, Chalobah etc, when we actually need loans which will make a difference to the team in the second half of the season. Perhaps a loan who is a notch up on the quality we currently have at our disposal.
Re: Realistic January wish list and rumours.
Not Connor Wickham hopefully
Re: Realistic January wish list and rumours.
If we sign two or more who of the present 24 which presently includes 5 goalkeepers would you keep. As Hendricks has just 7 months left of his contract, is he to be sold or given a new contract? The present 24 does not include Walters or Wells

We will mess about all month making bids for Dawson n Jay Rod that get rejected again n end up with Yaya Toure if this board is to be believed..

Hendrick-i can't see him staying if he doesn't get more game time, played in his natural position he is an asset, but he's not and never will be a NO 10.
Ward-But we have an option for another year-Again depends on how many minutes he can contribute on the pitch,at his age niggles are harder to recover from,Taylor hasn't yet convinced he's the obvious successor.
Phil Bardsley-he has performed well in the last couple of matches but Lowton on form would be first choice,i can see some Championship clubs seeing him as a decent experienced short-term answer.
Anders Lindegaard-If Heaton goes in January,Villa apparently interested,he would be a decent 3rd choice, can't see him playing often though.
Out of those four i'd keep Hendrick and Ward,we don't want to disrupt the team ethic more than we have to.And this year would allow Taylor to develop his defensive game.
We are definitely top-heavy on keepers,Pope if he discovers his pre-injury form is nailed on as first pick,Hart has a 2 year deal and is currently the incumbent.
If we went with three keepers this would give us space for outfield signings,of course this is dependent on Nick showing his fitness over a longish period.

Re: Realistic January wish list and rumours.
Totally agree cricketfield but he is free to sign a pre-contract in January, let's hope the club have been talking over a new deal,if he does go on a free let's also hope he is replaced either in this window,or in the Summer, but after the Scotty Arfield business i won't be holding my breath.cricketfieldclarets wrote:It will be shocking business if Hendrick walks for free.
TBH i wouldn't blame the lad for leaving,he had a decent run in CM proved his worth, and yet Sean still persists in trying to make him into a NO 10.
He's about as much use in NO 10 as Theresa May.

Posdibly, but would it be just as shocking business if he sign a a bumper 3 or 4 year deal ?
If he's 4th choice now, and we are looking to progress, surely we can't throw 35k a week and a hefty signing on fee at a 4th choice CM.
If ( and we need to ) sign a 1st team cm then he slides further down the pecking order.
The funds maybe better used elsewhere, to make sure we get that extra quality.
We need to start signing some first team players, then the squad automatically gets stronger as the quality filters down

With the price of midfielders now and the age and style of those we do have, to let a versatile, physical, 26 year old, international, premier league midfielder who cost us over £10m 3 years ago walk would be shocking imo.MACCA wrote:Posdibly, but would it be just as shocking business if he sign a a bumper 3 or 4 year deal ?

Thank the Lord that you don't run our club. He isn't awful he has just been asked to play in a role he isn't particularly comfortable in.
