They were, but the midfield and wingers did some excellent defensive work too. If we took it to that Tottenham side we would probably have been on the end of a mauling, they have too much quality. Unlucky not to get a point.

Liked the look of that type of formation against the big teams.

Imagine Gibson in there, and JBG back, we would 9ffer a lot more.
We won't come up against a front 5 of

Kane , Lamella, Eriksson, Dele and Son too often.

If we can use that as a base, we can certainly have hope of putting up a reasonable fight at staying up.

PS Taylor was immense, and MOM for me. Hart close 2nd but

They played well but this system gives us nothing going forward. Our midfield and wide players didn't do anything today. I'm not certain if I would like to watch that at home. Fair do's to Dyche for trying something different.

Defensively we were very good but we still need to be calmer in possession and more incisive on the counter if this system is going to work.

With some creativity up top, pace and a physical midfielder that system would suit is perfect.

If it meant picking draws up away from home, I would take that formation and style of play for the rest of season.

We will not counter attack successfully without pace. By the time we get to the dangerous areas opposition defences have got themselves organised. Pace has got to be a January priority.

He was perhaps our best centre midfielder. But you honestly thought he was better than Hart and our back 5?

Some people can’t see past the midfield and only think that a game of football is played in the final third. I love watching a great defensive display like today. It’s part of a great side. We did attack as well but we were set up defensively for a reason today and it almost paid off. So unlucky not to come away with a point or even more.

A fast pacy winger capable of skinning his marker and getting in accurate crosses is an urgent priority. Also again sub usage poor.Spurs put on Son and Eriksen and got the points.I never hold with the too good to go down bxxxcks. We need 9 points out of the next 4 games .Wins v Everton.West ham and Huddersfield is vital.A draw v Arsenal would be a bonus

The game plan was (quite bloody clearly) to defend and make it frustrating for Spurs. Their fans and players became frustrated and we were so close to getting a draw. Had we gone on the attack and opened up, they'd have picked us off at ease with their pace and technical ability. It's not that difficult to understand really.

Give us £500 million and I'm sure we'd have had better players. But we don't, so we did what we could with the players we have.

I kind of tire reading comments like this. In the modern game, not one coach plays a 'fast pacy winger' on his correct side. That is, if he is left footed, he will be payed on the right, which immediately negates the fact he is fast and pacy.

If you are going to nick an odd goal in a game where you have, as a priority, gone to defend you have two main chances at scoring, either a set piece or a quick break. We do not have the pace to break quickly, which given that we do set up to defend means we need some pace in the team. We do not have the pace we need.

Spurs attack > Westwood interception > Pope> Barnes > Brady > Wood = Goal.
15 seconds from Spurs attack to Burnely goal.
That was our quick break last season for a 1-1 draw, GK aside we've got the same outfield players.

We defended well and I really enjoyed the performance (until they scored).

Realistically though we offered nothing going forward other than set pieces.

Our wingers tucked in and the middle was congested so we had no one to play balls out to. When the wingers or striker occasionally broke they were so far ahead of the rest of the team that there was no attacking ball on.

We did what we set out to do well but the chances will be few and far between. We sacrificed a striker for a defender and it nearly worked.

What utter sh-ite.
The midfield and Barnes all played very well yesterday. probably the only player who struggled was Brady and he still worked very hard.
I have no idea what fans like you want anymore if you cannot give credit for a performance like that against a side who have stuffed United and Chelsea this year and just got a draw at Barcelona.

Came off happy with performance of the team, disappointing to lose, however have come off games this season un happy with performance and depressed by the loss. So for me if they can keep this up with some fine tuning we should start to pick up points.

So anyone who went, is this formation a goer against the big 6 teams, then revert to 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 against the others?

Also all these comments of pacy winger etc. Lennon is a pacy winger, but doesn’t suit our system.

I think maybe focusing on 2 pacy fullbacks maybe more conducive to the way Dyche likes to play. This way we can play 4-4-2 with 2 wide men tucked in and the fullbacks providing the width, and if we play 3 at the back, this would make this system more effective also.

I also think in the wide areas, people like Snodgrass and clucas for example would suit our system more than an out and out winger.

But everyone who watches us knows we are slow going forward. We don’t have a player with the pace or confidence to take the opposition on. So what happens is we turn back. Eventually it lands at the feet of a centre half or the goalkeeper who lumps it forward making it a 50/50 ball. We need someone who will gamble on going forward more quickly. It might still end up as a 50/50, but maybe not. Either way it has to be better than what is currently happening.

Still plenty of games left. Need to beat either Everton or West Ham. Not lose at Huddersfield. 6 wins and 4 draws from should be enough. As long as we beat cardiff, Soton, Fulham and palace at h we’ll be fine and dandy
