Nakhi Wells
QPR fans absolutely love him and say he’s in great form. Really pleased for the lad. I’m not quite sure he was ever up to Premier League standard, but it would’ve been interesting to see if he could’ve offered us something different from the bench in the first half of the season, which has, in the main, been very disappointing.
Scored the winner v Boro today too.

Re: Nakhi Wells
If Vydra can't get a look in this guy has no chance,he's a decent player at Championship level.Hope he keeps this form up if QPR don't have the funds to buy him plenty will in that league, even if we have to take a loss.

IF we go down, he'll be very important for us, should he wish to stay and not move to QPR on a permanent move.

If we go down then he would have more chance of game time, but that's not certain,he would also be in the final year of his contract, assuming we didn't offer an extension, some moves work out some don't,sadly Nakhi falls into the latter camp.FactualFrank wrote:IF we go down, he'll be very important for us, should he wish to stay and not move to QPR on a permanent move.

Even if we go down we would neee better. Vydra. Wood. Vokes. Barnes. Have all proved better at this level and that.
We need to recoup anything we can for him.

Re: Nakhi Wells
Getting out on the pitch and playing is obviously doing him the world of good. Five goals in his last nine games is an excellent return.
More importantly, his team contribution prior to that showed a real commitment to the QPR cause and demonstrated a greater understanding of what being a team player is all about. Playing in matches or fighting for a place in the squad, with your club or out on loan, a good team ethos will always be appreciated and rewarded.
Every team wants their strikers to score them a lot of goals, but being a team player should always come first. It has been really good to see the QPR fans taking him to their hearts and showing their appreciation for all of his efforts on the pitch and not just his rich goal scoring form of late. His media snippets have also demonstrated a more developed understanding of what it means to be a team player.
I think this loan is turning out to be an excellent move for everyone concerned, QPR have got a good player and Nahki looks like he is enjoying his football again. His current form and confidence must be seen as a good thing for us going forward.
Well done Nahki, keep up the good work. Doing everyone proud.

Let's not get carried away. He's only scored 5 goals for them (although it seems he's only made around 17 appearances - not sure if that stat is correct?). Anyway, to put it in perspective, Lukas Jutkiewicz has 10 goals this season.

Re: Nakhi Wells
In today's market £5 million (what we reportedly paid) is not a lot of money for a decent Championship striker. If he continues to score a goal every 3 games this season, and ends the season with about 15 goals then £5 million would be a good deal for some club. So much depends on whether he maintains his current form, and how many teams are interested in him.cricketfieldclarets wrote:

[Just checked, - he has 5 goals in 12 starts, and has 3 sub appearances, so that's a very good stat]

Good in the Championship and maintaining his value. QPR don’t have any money, but we could recuop our outlay on him, so nothing lost.

No they didn’t. Some people thought “ that’s interesting, I wonder where we are going with this? When fit, maybe his pace could be a threat against tiring defenders, and at £5m in this day and age, if it doesn’t work out, we haven’t bet the ranch”Lancasterclaret wrote:Everybody on here pretty much said "WTF?" when we signed him.

Re: Nakhi Wells
Fair point, but you could apply that to any player, some work, some don’t, at least we could get something back on him. Where as someone like Walters we will have spent two years wages for nothing.

It was certainly a transfer where suddenly people could see into the future, saying it was a wasted transfer, months later. Even though some of those same posters were open to the transfer at the time, and had we had injuries, he would have been needed.
Like I say, if we are in the Championship next season, he could play a big role in helping us get back up.

Enough to give us at least three consecutive seasons in the premier league which has totally exceeded my expectations of a few years ago.Barry_Chuckle wrote:How many of our signings for the front line would you say have turned out well....... just being curious!

Barnes and Vokes were bought for a pittance and we have got great service from them over the years.Barry_Chuckle wrote:How many of our signings for the front line would you say have turned out well....... just being curious!
We doubled our money on Andre Gray.
Compare our strikers to say Leicester who have blown tens of millions on dross which they ended up offloading.
Re: Nakhi Wells
Personally didn't think that. Thought it was a contingency signing that turned out not to be needed. But he was there in the event we had significant injury problems with our forwards.Lancasterclaret wrote:Everybody on here pretty much said "WTF?" when we signed him.

Yup. I thought it as a safety "just in case" signing.taio wrote:Personally didn't think that. Thought it was a contingency signing that turned out not to be needed. But he was there in the event we had significant injury problems with our forwards.
Re: Nakhi Wells
Exactly. And putting the benefit of hindsight to one side it wasn't an unreasonable signing in the grand scheme of things. As you say, if we get relegated he could be a good option for us next season.FactualFrank wrote:Yup. I thought it as a safety "just in case" signing.

Re: Nakhi Wells
Was an absolutely sensible signing.
Had we suffered injuries, he would've been ready to use. We didn't, so he wasn't used.
We ballsed up last time by not planning ahead, then when Marney had his injury, we were lambasted for not preparing. We learn from it and prepare and we are lambasted for it.
Damned if we do......

Good player at Championship level, scores goals and works hard for the team too. QPR seem to be enjoying him.
Would definitely try and keep him on if we go down.

He was a panic buy , that has cost us millions of pounds whilst we continue to scrimp and scrape to squeeze every last penny from fans, and don't move from the tight financial parameters on fees and wages for incoming players.
Our 3 gambles on Wells, Walters and Vydra to fill that number 10 slot haven't worked out, yet look yo have cost us 20m in fees and easily 75k a week in wages. We still haven't seen them start a dozen games between them I don't think. By trying to scrimp on quality or save a few quid, we've actually spent a small fortune to still be playing either a player massiely out of position and his comfort zone, or no number 10 at all.

Re: Nakhi Wells
He was injured, out of contract in the summer and there was no reported competition for his signature. We paid well over the odds for a Championship striker and plenty said so at the time.
Glad he's playing well and wish him all the best but let's not re-write history on this.

Championship level player. Glad he’s doing well at QPR but I don’t believe suggestions that he’d genuinely improve us now, despite being low scorers
