Arsenal away-low turn out?
I was told yesterday that we had only sold 400 by the middle of last week.
Now it's a great effort for anyone going down especially if you did Spurs as well.
But could it be the lowest away following for some time?
I'm thinking Ipswich away mid week with around 550 there was the lowest in recent history that I know about.

Re: Arsenal away-low turn out?
just before Xmas, clubs should be giving away tickets as a thank you to those that go all the time. There should only be local derbies (as much as possible) around Christmas, not 2 trips to London

The prospect of travelling down to London to watch us play for a nil nil and waste time for 90 minutes isn't that appealing to be honest. Our away support has really dwindled this year, is it down to our negative approach or the novelty of being in the Prem wearing off, or a combination of the two?

Remember a good amount spent a lot of money on trips to Istanbul/Athens/both.
Two London trips in two weeks, at this time of year, also creates a perfect storm for low away attendances.

As soon as it was announced to be on TV you’d have thought it would be ideal for the club to offer free travel or subsidise tickets or something similar.

Its on TV
We are not very good this year if we are being honest
Its the weekend before Xmas
Its against a top six side
I'd be surprised if we sold out with free travel to be honest.

Actually finally works out well for me with work. Finish on the Friday, so the Mrs is going off to do some Xmas shopping and myself and the lad are going to head down. The most frustrating thing is the 12.30pm kick-off. Means a very early start. It would be nice if the TV could sometimes factor in the travelling away fans.

A Blackburn fan came on Facebook gobbing off we only took 1500 to Wembley, but is it really that bad?
Our group who don't go away that often anymore chose Spurs as we thought it might be the new stadium.
Like I say not having a go at anyone for not going just a little shocked going to one of the big clubs could be the lowest away following of our recent history.

Re: Arsenal away-low turn out?
I have taken the decision not to make the journey. A first for a London match for...ever. I have missed the odd one owing to rearrangement/hols but never by choice.
Last week's journey to Wembley and Christmas volumes, added to the kick off, sealed the decision.
TV it is.
We will win.

The way to deal with any Blackburn fan to be perfectly honest is just to ask them if they have enjoyed their six year period in which they all disappeared off the internet at the merest hint that a Burnley fan might be around.

Just like I don't get City fans getting stick for getting 55k on when they used to get 32k on at Maine Rd. That's an impressive jump by anyone's standards.

Re: Arsenal away-low turn out?
I don't get the whole attendence thing to be honest. Our fan base is pretty steady, and will go up or down depending on well we are doing.
We are not doing well, so travelling the length of the country to see us probably lose in the week before Xmas isn't the first priority for everyone.

Re: Arsenal away-low turn out?
5am start to the journey
4 days before Christmas
3 trips to London in the 3 weeks before Christmas
2 of those against one of the top 5 teams
1 of those against a team that have in recent years have scabbed a late undeserved winner
I think on the above facts, 500 is pretty good
(thought of a late one including “5” and set it to the 12 days of Christmas )

If you think i'm going to get up at 5:30am after Mad Friday, catch a 3 hour train into London (3 days before Xmas) in time for a 12:30 kick off that is on TV to watch Burnley defend for 90 minutes and not get home until 11pm, you are absolutely correct

Re: Arsenal away-low turn out?
I'm southern based so going to this (on top of Palace and Spuds of late). I can get from my door to the Arsenal ground in a couple of hours so 12.30 ko isn't a big problem. I can fully understand a low turn out given the proximity to Christmas, early KO, 2nd week in a row London trip etc.
I thought our turn out at Wembley was pretty decent and reasonably vociferous.
Whatever our turnout on Saturday, I'm hoping those present can leave with smiles on their faces; can't be as bad as last season there.

I always thought our London followings were a shoo-in for a 1,000 or more based on the amount of London based Clarets. Is this not the case?

Tony. Would you prefer that we reverted to 4-4-2 and had a real go at Arsenal (admittedly risking a heavy defeat) or stick with the new 5-4-1 formation in the hope that we can scrape a draw?ClaretTony wrote:And looking forward to it even though I'm on the 6 a.m. bus to Manchester for the train.

I am going to miss it for the first time in a long time, as I work Saturday mornings and don't finish until 12pm. Had it been 3pm kick off then I would have gone with Herts Jnr. Though I have only seen us score once down there and conceded a bucket load.

Wembley looked barely 2/3 full not sure what the crowd was there ? I’m away but this arsenalmatch with it being on tv and nr xmas would of been bloody hard work ( class with Cardiff last season) fair play to the lads going and I’d be amazed if there’s much over 50k on the Emirates to see Dick Emerys lot fail to break us down

Times like this when I hear about the clarets watching us cos its close to home I miss Carlisle away!
Re: Arsenal away-low turn out?
OK we have had 3 trips away to London pre Xmas...
Over Xmas and New Year we have 2 x Home League, 1 x Away Hudds & 1 x Cup Home.
Makes a change from the Holiday mileage we usually have to contend with.
We have to play these games at some point in a season on Saturday they are done with ....
Come on you Clarets

I don’t like 4-4-2 personally and I don’t think playing that way means having a go. We didn’t use that system last season when we were doing well.Mala591 wrote:Tony. Don’t think it’s a case of scraping a draw. Thought we played well on Saturday and we had our opportunities. Games like that are incredibly difficult for a club like ours. A draw would have been a terrific result.

That’s a good shout re giving you discounted tickets or free travel with the usual supporters clubs ie Accy Clarets.....whilst I can’t go I certainly wouldn’t moan about those who regularly travel etc getting a freebie given its tv, before Xmas, week after Spurs etc.
But hey ho, the club is saving up for its purchase in the January sales!

The gate was given by BBC match stats as 41,645; I'm not sure whether they count non-attending ST holders but I thought at the time that 40k max were there. Top tier (capacity 39k+) was almost empty, plenty of spaces in the middle tier (capacity 17k) and the bottom tier (cap 34k) hardly chock-a-block.Wembley looked barely 2/3 full not sure what the crowd was there ?

It looked empty. I thought about 25k at the time.
It was a horrible experience seeing it empty with no atmosphere or special occasion like my previous visits.
I don't quite feel sorry for the Spurs fans as other sets of fans have had far worse ground sharing experiences but it's not good for football.

Yes that's usually the case. Maybe a few less attending this one due to ko time, TV, 3rd London game in 3 weeks, just before Christmas etc.Cubanclaret wrote:I always thought our London followings were a shoo-in for a 1,000 or more based on the amount of London based Clarets. Is this not the case?

Re: Arsenal away-low turn out?
I routed my Xmas trip home from California so that I landed at Heathrow and could attend the Arsenal game. My best pal, a season ticket holder, is driving down from Burnley to pick me up.
But when the time came to actually buy Arsenal tickets we went through this thought process:
- crap view and atmosphere at the Emirates last time I went
- high prices for everything
- we'll almost certainly lose
- hassle of parking and traffic
So we are watching it in the pub and going to visit Bletchley Park instead.
Sorry.

They’re just gobbing off at anything they think they can at the moment because let’s face it, we’ve been above them most of this decade and their club is still rather fragile.Quickenthetempo wrote:I don't have a problem dealing with Blackburn fans it's just he thought 1500 travelling 300 miles was poor.

207 Blackburn fans at Spurs
250 Blackburn fans at Aston Villa
300 Blackburn fans at Fulham
318 Blackburn fans at Sunderland
448 Blackburn fans at Chelsea
397 Blackburn fans at Stoke
556 Blackburn fans at Man City
571 Blackburn fans at Liverpool
680 Blackburn fans at Swansea
800 Blackburn fans at West Brom
......
That’s just 2011-12 season. They’ve had loads of really poor Premier League away followings, and they’ve never even played at the new Wembley Stadium! It’s best to ignore them.
FWIW, circa 1,500 is a great following to London just before Christmas. If Arsenal is around 1,000 that will be just as good for a live TV game a couple of days before Xmas for a lunch time kick off.
