Old Stadiums Quiz .....

Post by Clarets4me » Sat Dec 22, 2018 11:09 am

The " Guardian " have 10 old photo's of Football grounds, from years gone past, some are now gone and some still there .... try and guess the grounds

https://www.theguardian.com/football/ng ... z-part-six

They've done this on the Saturday before Christmas for the last six years, links to the other five are on the page .... As a benchmark, I got 51 out of 60, and 8 out of 10 for the link above !! At 55, some knowledge of old players & kits helps ! Good Luck !

White Hart lane pub sold Charringtons - dreadful bl...y beer even in the days of Watney's red barrel.

Exactly the same as Vino Blanco - I was struggling with no.2 - the one with Diego Forlan warming-up for Man U - until I saw the flag at the back of the stand. Same with White Hart Lane - recognised the name on the pub.

As said above if you can remember the players/kits that helps - I only knew the difference between St Andrew's and the Hawthorns because West Brom were in their away kit.

Don’t know why number two is part of the quiz? It isn’t an old v new stadium pic. It’s a new stand Northampton built which still hasn’t been finished.

6 out of 10 for me and even recognised the match in the last one as Magpies v Forest 1974 in the ill fated FA cup 6th round match which was held up and restarted and eventually completely replayed due to serious crowd trouble. It was the match which then led to Newcastle playing Burnley at Hillsobough, but if it had been allowed to play out as per the original game we'd have been playing Forest who were leading 3-1 with time running out when the Geordie fans decided to take things into their own hands.

You didn't need the smileys - I have although I'm not sure I can recall the WHL entrance looking like that but my first visit there was in 1966.

That old side terrace at Molyneux, the covering of which loks like 8 large detatched houses have simply had their roofs uplifted and deposited on stanchions ... usually a give away ..
