Kevin Long
Kevin Long
Seems to be dividing opinion today. A lot of people raving about his performance yet, for me, he was at fault for two out of three goals. Caught flat footed and ball watching for the first and didn’t track Ewobi for the third. Other than that I thought his general play was very good, but it’s those key moments that really matter to me.
Re: Kevin Long
He did some good stuff, some not so good.
Sadly the not so good cost us a goal ( 2 If you're being harsh ) and you can't do that every other week at this level never mind when we are struggling to score.
If 3 at the back is here to stay, you'd think Gibson will be in before ling, he can play a bit too, we can't have 2 booters in there, we need 1 or 2 able to carry it forward.

Re: Kevin Long
Could have done better on goals 1&3. Gibson to play in a back 3 with mee and Tarks if we are to continue with this system.

Re: Kevin Long
He was caught by the first goal.
But sometimes you've got to acknowledge a great through ball.
That one was brilliant.
It would have exposed a lot of more renowned CBs than Kevin.

Shouldve wiped him out on the third at least twice.

For me Lowton was at fault for the 3rd goal. the back 4 kept the line while he played the goal scorer onside by sitting 5 yds deeper. I would like to see what Gibbson is like, but i dont think our current CB's are doing a lot wrong.

Re: Kevin Long
He's ok for the odd game. When he gets a run of games he starts to make crucial mistakes.
A back 3 of Tarkowski, Mee and Gibson for me. Not only our 3 best centre halves but the wide two of the back three see a lot of the ball so need decent distribution - for me that should be Tarkowsi and Gibson.

Very poor today. A limited footballer who will be inevitably regularly be caught out at this level.

Re: Kevin Long
Very loyal, will give you 100%, and come through a nasty injury. He could move to the Championship and start every game. No where near a PL defender though , and sadly the way we are playing neither is Ben on present form

Re: Kevin Long
Not seen a re - run of the goals, but I thought Kev got caught out with one of them by losing possession.
His marks are rather generous by some of you lot, not worthy of anymore than 7.
Tarks was far our best central defender Mee was our weakest link with poor defending and distribution

It was his block tackle that led to Ash scoring, swings and roundabouts.

Re: Kevin Long
Shouldn’t be playing in a PL team on a regular basis but then you could say that about 7/8 of our players. He shouldn’t be encouraged to do anything other than the most simplest of things. (refer: Arsenal’s third goal today).
Re: Kevin Long
He's nothing more than solid on a good day, and especially in the PL, is left exposed when given a run of games.
If we're serious about playing 3 CBs, and I'd hope we are and haven't just done this because we were scared of Arsenal and Spurs, then Ben Gibson must be given a chance to show his qualities.

An old manager of mine used to say that what you do well is why you are out there, and is a minimum requirement. Your game is defined by your mistakes.JohnMac wrote:It was his block tackle that led to Ash scoring, swings and roundabouts.

Re: Kevin Long
He's just back-up. A last resort when there is nobody else available. Incredible to have him playing ahead of someone who cost us £15 million. Given any run In the team he will make more mistakes. He's got all the attributes of a modern day defender except for ability.
