Which Antivirus Software do you use?
I'm currently using Norton Security for my PC and it seems fine. It's detected 2-3 things over the last few weeks that have arrived via email (spam) so seems to be protecting it without a problem. The free trial is coming to an end, and it's £15 for 1 year or £45 for 2 years (I assume if I go for the £15 option, the second year will be a lot more expensive than the £30 current difference).
It seems a good deal, but before I go ahead and buy the 2 year subscription, I thought I'd ask if anybody has experience of a better option? McAfee is another I considered.

I use bullguard . I buy from Amazon and don't auto renew. The techy whizz kid at work recommended it a few years ago and i have found it the best i have ever used.

So do you don't get updates as new viruses are created?bfcjg wrote:I use bullguard . I buy from Amazon and don't auto renew. The techy whizz kid at work recommended it a few years ago and i have found it the best i have ever used.
Re: Which Antivirus Software do you use?
You should never pay for antivirus software.
Windows Defender is perfectly adequate and is built into Windows 10.

It auto checks and updates all the time. Comes with other features as well.

Windows Defender failed to detect 3 trojans/spyware on my PC that came via email. Norton detected them and removed them. I'll be taking the extra precaution.Tall Paul wrote:Windows Defender is perfectly adequate and is built into Windows 10.

That's per year. How do you get around to never updating it every 12 months? Do you just buy another license from scratch?bfcjg wrote:It auto checks and updates all the time. Comes with other features as well.

Re: Which Antivirus Software do you use?
I use VIPRE and have done for a number of years now.
I've no idea which is best or whether just using Windows Defender is adequate. There must be sites that survey these products.

Yeah I have that on my phone. I use it on my PC for manual scans, but prefer Norton Security over it for overall protection.Bosscat wrote:I use "Malware-bytes" on my phone Frank (also covers my tablet and computer)
Re: Which Antivirus Software do you use?
That's because trojans and spyware are malware, not viruses. Malwarebytes is free and will cover that in conjunction with Windows Defender.FactualFrank wrote:Windows Defender failed to detect 3 trojans/spyware on my PC that came via email. Re: Which Antivirus Software do you use?
Malwarebytes looks fine, if you have the premium which is £30 a year. Without that, it doesn't offer realtime protection.

Re: Which Antivirus Software do you use?
Unless you open every random attachment that you receive in your email and click ok on every dialogue that you see then Windows defender is fine.

Not really. I only use it for texts/whatsapp, calls and footy scores. I have Malwarebytes on it and can tell when a dodgy text comes through asking me to click a link.basil6345789 wrote:Do you need it on your phone?

Norton is diabolical. I use Avast on my PC, free and does the job perfectly.FactualFrank wrote:I'm currently using Norton Security for my PC and it seems fine. Re: Which Antivirus Software do you use?
Bullguard.
Great customer support also great product.
Many business' use it.
Save some cash and get a code from ebay (about £6ish - they send you a download link and reg code). When you download you get the latest version. Then simply install - and update / set up to suit you. Then run a full scan. Follow their prompts.
Disable or remove Norton / other stuff you have you use.
Norton sucks the life out of your pc in terms of performance.
Bullguard does not.
Every now and then do a manual update and clear any issues it has spotted. (click on icon in toolbar if flashing).
It also has a remote backup feature which can be a lifesaver for photos etc.
The Great customer support alone gives you peace of mind should you ever need it.
Don't auto renew as it's cheaper as I've stated above so simply don't enter payment info when registering.
Hope this helps.

As well as Defender and Malwarebytes I make sure all the sites I visit are covered by - IBM's Trusteer Rapport -
Although designed for online banking and similar financial dealing, it's free and
useful as an extra layer of protection without slowing things down.

Re: Which Antivirus Software do you use?
I use Avast free antivirus on my laptop with Malware bytes free and Spywareblaster (also free)
Did have Avast mobile free on my previous Android smartphone but new one came with an antivirus, cleaner, booster and CPU cooler app pre installed which seems to work ok.

Re: Which Antivirus Software do you use?
Agree with this. Anti- virus software running on a device slows it down a lot. Of course with Chromebooks you need an internet connection to see most of your files - but then that most of us have that.karatekid wrote:Get a Chromebook. No antivirus needed.

Re: Which Antivirus Software do you use?
I won't be buying a Chromebook.
Re: Which Antivirus Software do you use?
Worked in computer repair for nearly 10 years.
Don't use McAfee, Avast, Kaspersky, Norton or AVG with Windows 10. They all run background processes which often conflict with Windows updates and cause corruption. They also slow your computer down massively and are resource intensive. I've used Panda Internet Security for years and have had no issues - I also install it on computers at work. A great balance of good security without resource hogging, whilst being better than Windows Defender alone.
Chromebooks aren't a replacement for a full computer for many reasons.

I'm using Bullguard and have absolutely no problems with it and it works well enough. As someone on the thread has said, don't auto renew though, it is cheaper to just buy year by year.
Re: Which Antivirus Software do you use?
Chromebook is excellent for surfing t'internet , utube , UTC site etc. Basic file types are accomodated but not to windows level obviously. I love mine as I don't need windows. Boots up from OFF in 5 seconds. Save everything to google drive - photos, documents etc so don't need big storage on a hard drive. No antivirus needed as there is nothing to infect. Horses for courses but for me it's perfect.
