Female steward

Post by Quickenthetempo » Fri Dec 28, 2018 11:45 am

Seeing as we have a few on here that are close to the club, does anyone know if the female steward is alright who got hit by a stray Theo Walcott shot in the CF stand?
She was being treated for a good 5 minutes before being taken away by the medics.

Hope she's ok. Looked a serious one as she only seemed to collapse a good minute or so after getting struck by the ball.

There was a similar case to this in court earlier this year and it was thrown out. The judge said that it is an acceptable risk that you may be stuck by a ball when attending a football match.
I hope she is ok.

As a working steward you're instructed to watch the crowd and can't reasonably expect to get out of the way of a stray ball.
The paying customer will be expected to watch the game.

Thought exactly the same Quickenthetempo,a steward is paid to watch the crowd,I should imagine a good solicitor would get you a fair wedge if your hit by something your not expecting.

Why does the word 'Female' have to be mentioned at all in this thread?

If a case is brought then surely HS&E would insist on PPE being worn by any stewards working in the vicinity of the pitch

Im guessing it's nothing sinister, just peoples attempts to identify her as there are stastically a lot less female stewards than males.

Hope this helps.

UPDATE: On the day, she was seen by a doctor at the ground who said she was OK to go home. She was taken home by car. Now awaiting any update, should there be one, from the stewarding company.

I'm not offended, just interested why It has to be mentioned because if it was a male it would not of been in the title. Also if it was a man, I think the reactions in the comments would of been totally different too! I'm glad to hear that this female is fine though.

Depends on whatever risk assessment had been carried out by the security company. I'd have thought the probability and severity is very low.

Pretty obvious really. It made it clear to everyone and it certainly helped me when I was trying to get an update.

new club directive is that all stewards in cricketfield or jimmy mac should face the pitch if the away team are warming up at their end.....if its Burnley warming up at that end then they are to face the crowd as the danger is far less.

To their credit, the Evertonians in the area were very concerned about her welfare.

The Evertonions were great all day to be fair. In the cricket club and queen vic. Very chatty and nice to boot.
Far nicer than the other club from Liverpool.

She was back at work today and nearly got hit from McNeil at one point.
She needs to change position I think.
