Sofa recommendations

Post by kingarthur » Sat Dec 29, 2018 8:35 am

Due to move house in the next couple of weeks and need a new sofa or two. Can any one recommend any companies they have used or know of any good deals. I appreciate most companies have deals on at this time of the year (and most other times of the year too  ).
Thanks in advance

How about this one if you have a van to collect?

We used DFS last time - 8 years ago. Sofa still going well.

We are moving early next year too and will probably need a new sofa in addition to the one we have so will keep an eye out on this thread to see what else gets recommended. Otherwise will be off to the ‘sale’ that never ends

You can save an awful lot a money by buying second hand providing your choosey and in some cases the older stuff can be made better.

Like anything else you have to do your own research.

If your sofa is just worn or doesn't match the new décor you could get made to measure covers for it:

Interestingly point this. Just where do you buy a sofa nowadays. There were two places where I live, Multi York and Wesley Barrell, but they’ve both closed down. Every time I throw myself down on something in, say John Lewis, I think how uncomfortable they are as well as being quite expensive for what they are.

SPE at Briercliffe Rd business centre has a good choice of sofas and Co and are reasonably priced.
And they can deliver.

It's all made to order. They might be from Garlicks boardroom that you didn't like. Wealth doesn't mean taste all the time.

You have 2 choices:-
Get a real one, say Bridgecraft, with sprung front, beech frame, etc and pay at least 3 grand but will last.
Get an "all the rest" - in which case go to Brand Interiors (the place on Briercliffe Road sells their stuff). We've had plenty of hardwood and bedroom furniture off them and their service and help is superb. They do all the trendy stuff (M&S etc) either from the floor or to order. Usually half (of an inflated) price but still value.

Whichever one you go for, I'd recommend getting one that supports your head when you lean back.

A lot of these modern ones have low backs (as I know to my cost :( ).
Consequently, you often get a crick in the neck after sitting there for a while.

Top Claret - agree with you on Taskers but it's still worth a ride over to Mytholmroyd.

this lot could be worth a look if you are based in or near Burnley. Just seen their showroom/unit on gumtree.

looks like its mainly x display stuff.

On a similar note, does anyone have recommendations for somewhere that sells riser/recliner armchairs - the sort that gives an older person a lift to help them get up?

I would try Gumtree or pre loved dsr. Like stair lifts I would imagine these are often left by old people when they pass away.

After Christmas is a good time in general to buy a range of things for obvious reasons as well.
