Yes Concert April 1971 Nelson

Post by Chesterthedog » Sun Dec 30, 2018 8:10 am

A friend of mine intends to write a couple of articles about the Yes gig down the Imp in Nelson in April 1971, and about Electron and Les in Nelson about the same time... I was 16 just about to sit my O Levels, attending what for me was a mind blowing experience. I remember the music but can anyone remember any other details of the concert such as where we bought the tickets, cost of tickets, what beer we drank etc?

I saw Yes around the same time but in Sheffield. You mention Electron. I think Les run the shop in Nelson while the one in Burnley was run by Jim who was his dad and they used to sell tickets for the Imp.

I'm sure you will find some Wonderous Stories

The book Going Down Th’Imp by Steve Chapples lists the concert as 24/4/71 but that’s all it says I’m afraid.

Didn't know they'd played Nelson!

Truly unique voice.
Saw them in London, '77 Going for the One tour.
Rick Wakeman had rejoined.
Superb album even now.

saw them at free trade when they force fed the audience all the songs of Relayer and didnt play the favourites. They were Booed for it , and rightly so.
Tony spot on about Electron by the way.
My missus's auntie was jon andersons girlfriend , still didn't excuse that free trade show though, although they were a great band. Fragile was my favourite.

my mistake, it was that tales from a topographic ocean album, not relayer, and that was november 73

'Tales' was a good album to be fair.
