Team for Barnsley

Post by piston broke » Sun Dec 30, 2018 10:29 pm

Just seen on the “Huddersfield/Fulham” thread folk commenting on possible team changes for the next two games.
Thought I’d give it a thread of its own.
No changes for me. The number of changes this season has had a very unsettling affect on our rhythm. We need to find consistency and for once a cup run could be beneficial.

I’d probably bring long, Vokes & Hart back in if I’m honest

Give Pope a game for sure.

We need to get a settled eleven out.

Suspect we’ll go 442 with Long and Gibson getting game time

The likes of Gibson, Hendrick and Vydra definitely need some game time. Barnsley are having a decent season and if we aren't at the races we'll get turned over.

On a more serious note Id be tempted to keep Woods playing as we need him to get goals but would definitely give the young O'Neill lad a rest. Gotta rest one of the midfield so Hendricks in there is a must for me

On a serious note, I would wait. We need to play Huddersfield first, so this could easily change.

I was more after folks thoughts on changes rather than X1s. Most seem to be happy to give squad members a run out where I would rather keep the X1 going.

Give him a rest! He's played 1 game and needs a rest!

Yeah, but we might not be playing the same side, and if injuries occur, those we would currently play against Barnsley might be needed to be rested to play instead of the one injured vs Huddersfield.

Tbf I think most people are just trying to guess what sort of team we'll have out. I'd like us to put a strong team out but going off what Dyche has done previously people are just expecting lots of changes. The likes of Gibson and Hendrick definitely need a game, and I'd like to see Vydra and Wood given a game together upfront. Maybe Pope as well if he is fit, but apart from that I wouldn't have a problem with us being full strength.

I think bearing in mind that we have to play 18 league games in 5 months starting on Wednesday, that we ought to be able to play our first team in the cup. The practical benefit of giving the reserves one or perhaps 2 competitive games before they get knocked out is negligible. The practical downside of playing an absolute maximum 7 extra games to the first team before the last league game is also negligible, and the possible practical benefit of the boost to confidence and optimism is quite large. So, play the first team.

After playing 3 big games in 7 days I think it’s reasonable that Dyche will look to rest a number of our key players whilst giving game time to some of our squad players.

Full change for me, after so many games in a busy period, but stick to the same formation and tactics.

Pope/Hart
Lowton - Long - Gibson - Koiki
Lennon - Defour - Hendrick - Brady (if fit)
Vokes - Vydra

Give them all a chance at winning a place in the starting line up for the next game.

If we beat Huddersfield, and that’s a big if considering we’re both scrapping for points, I’d play a strong line up. Winning is a habit, just like losing, and a possible win against Barnsley might mean 3 wins on the bounce. No disrespect to Barnsley of course, especially considering our cup record under Dyche, but on paper we should have too much for them.

"So many games"? We haven't played so many games. We've had midweek games for two consecutive weeks, that's all. I know that modern belief is that players can't cope with too many midweek fixtures (and that players of the past who did cope, were just pretending) but come on. They aren't overworked.

Pelligino yesterday was moaning about having a long journey from Southampton to London. If they played once a fortnight, they'd still whinge about being tired. Can't they get in touch with Roger Federer or any other male tennis player about coping with multiple fixtures?

Hart
Lowton Long Gibson Koiki
Hendrick Defour Cork* JBG
Vydra , Vokes

* or Westwood , either only getting 60 mins
Taylor for JBG at 65
Then see about the last, maybe Brady for defour

We should have well enough to be a couple up at the 60 minute mark.
