6 wins from 17 games

Post by gandhisflipflop » Thu Jan 03, 2019 9:37 am

Would put us on 36 points and will be enough imo. It is looking like 3 teams will go from the current bottom 5. Huddersfield are gone. Cardiff I think will go down but will put up more of a fight. And 1 from us, Fulham and Southampton. Fulham could spend wise in Jan and pull clear yet so it's a good time to play them next. Southampton I'm led to believe don't want to spend any money so they could go. Looking at the group above it's hard to see any of them being dragged into it. Possibly Newcastle? It's looking a lot better than 2 weeks ago anyway. Up the clarets.

Be careful of saying anyone is "gone". Some said the same of Leicester a few seasons ago, then they shot up out of relegation and won the league the year after. However, I agree that 6 wins from 17 is do-able; even throw a few draws to allow less wins? Keep the faith and go for the win every time.

Fulham (Home) 3 Points
Watford (Away) 1 Point
Southampton (Home) 3 Points
Brighton (Away) 1 Point
Newcastle (Away) 1 Point
Palace (Home) 3 Points
Leicester (Home) 3 Points
Wolves (Home) 1 Point
Bournemouth (Away) 1 Point
Cardiff (Home) 3 Points

IF we play like the last two games, I think that is possible. That's a big if, and it's quite possible we mess up some of those games or get points in others, but I think the above is doable playing in the swashbuckling manner we currently are.

That would put us on 38 points before the horror run-in.

A point a game from now on keeps us up easily.

36 points, whether gained from six wins or five and a few draws, will be plenty.
The old bench-mark for safety, 40 points, once again, won't be required.

And I think we'll do it.

I’m tempted to say 34 points could keep you up. I think Huddersfield are in real trouble. I also think Cardiff will drop dramatically. I think Fulham could start to pick up points if they invest in a defender. Soton are having a bit of a dip. And I think Newcastle will still be in the mix. We are definitely still in the mix tho

Agreed. Palace were odds-on last season at one point but wound up nowhere near relegation.

In the last four matched the bigger clubs may have nothing to play for and Everton are hardly better than us if we play like the last two matches.

Last season, Huddersfield easily managed two away draws against Chelsea and Man city.

We are still one of the favourites to go down. Boring I know, but for me it's one game at a time.

Another huge game vs Fulham.

Saints are up and down.
Lost to West Ham and Cardiff recently, but beat Arsenal.

Let's hope they have another prolonged dip.

It's dangerous to write anyone off but Huddersfield have scored 13 in 21 games, you're not going to win games with that powder puff an attack.

We are more than capable of picking up points from most teams outwith the top six.

Yes. Southampton. Who won 6 of 9 points available after the managerial change, followed by only 1 of 9 points available in the next 3 games. I’d say a drop of 83% is a dip wouldn’t you?

One game at a time. The Fulham game takes on as much meaning as last night now. It's a huge game for us. Let's try and build momentum and see where it takes us. We're in a better position now than anyone dared to dream we'd be in before the West Ham match. I didn't see 2 wins happening at all. Fingers crossed it's the start of a purple patch. 4 or 5 quick wins in this league make an enormous difference.

After the Everton performance I didn't expect to see 1 win at all for the rest of the season!

Think if we can beat Southampton, Cardiff and Fulham at home it'll be almost job done, 3 more wins or 2 and a draw or 2, will be enough.

It's beating the right teams, and opening up gaps.

We've given ourselves a chance.

We have to keep this level of performance up though.

We all know the team is good enough for this division, but we have to play like that every single game.

Its a tough ask but we can do it.

Crystal Palace toyed with us recently at Selhurst Park but they are far better away from home (as Manchester City and Wolves have recently found out) so I wouldn't bank on 3 points from our home game. We will also need to perform better to get anything at Watford.

I get the point about writing teams off. I also agree with the above poster palace comment. They are always a very tricky side to play against at home. The games are usually open, which would suit them better than us.

Whereas you say Southampton are suffering a dip after getting an excellent point at Chelsea, have a day off FFS

No. A dip after 1 point from 9. Stop picking and choosing facts to suit your ideas
