Ward and Defour being back would be fantastic news.

Not been a Taylor fan but he has been great these last two games (who hasn't?) so it's his shirt now as far as I am concerned, but Ward has been a big miss this season overall.

Defour, however, I really don't see the room for him. The system we have found that suits us is back to a 4-4-2 that he could not function in. A good option from the bench though to try and retain possession late on in games perhaps?

Good news all round. Could do with Ward back for some competition for Left Back.

Difficult shout on Saturday. We want to have a cup run, we want to see these players return, but most of all we need to keep this run going. A set back against Barnsley could affect the Fulham game, and that would be a disaster.

I'd honestly expected the next news about Ward to be retirement, based on how shot his knees were reported to be. Hopefully the op and recovery has given him some more time without being detrimental to his post-playing days

Wardy was very poor before his injury and indeed the years seem to be catching up with him.Hes been a great signing but now perhaps its time for him to hang up his boots.
Personally if we are changing our left back v Barnsley I would give Ali Koiki a run out.

I don't understand why you think it's 'time for him to hang up his boots'. He's been injured and worked his way back to possibly feature in an FA cuo tie. At the least let's see how he responds to first team football again. We've afforded that opportunity to other current first teamers and countless others down the years.

I’m not sure Ward was any worse than Mee, Cork, Wood and Lowton at the beginning of this season to name but a few.
I think writing him off is a bit premature.

I don't think management will want to have a cup run at all, this season especially. They'll make token noises but will be happy with a defeat. Sad but probably true.

Ward was carrying an injury for some time.

Good to see them back, from nowhere! Missing then suddenly back. Odd.

Would be very good news if Pope and Ward were back against Barnsley.

Coded message there from Sean. So look out for
Pope
Lowton Gibson Long Taylor
JBG Hendrik Defour Brady
Vydra Vokes

I thought he functioned alright in a 442 when we beat Liverpool. And he wasn’t even Dyche fit then. Although I much prefer him in a 3, ideally with Hendrick as one of them. A 442 is working now, but last season we got most out of a 451

While Defour is better in a 3 and we are playing well now, he is twice the player Cork is even in a 2.

That said you are pretty much guaranteed 40 games a season from Cork. So from that perspective would be foolish ti upset such a reliable player for one who despite his talent has shown he cant last 90 minutes most weeks never mind a full season!

Unfortunately for Defour and us he has to now be used more sparingly.

A replacement definitely needs to be bought in summer if not January!

Am I missing something? Ward was frozen out due to the WhatsApp leaks. I read it on here so it must be right.

Defour should be sold or given a free.Burnley can not carry a player who it seems has little interest in playing.
