All,

I’ve been a Clarets fan since their first foray into the Premier League, and I’ve finally managed to squirrel away the money for a visit! My girlfriend and I are both flying into Dublin, and would be indebted to anyone who could offer us advice. Our trip is from 19 September to 2 October. The only must is a visit to Turf Moor.

No doubt you will receive plenty of advice if you keep posting. They are a very knowlegdable and well travelled lot on here, well most of them !

Those dates are good because they are between the two international breaks which are the Saturdays of 7th Sep and 12th Oct. That gives you the Saturdays of 21st & 28th Sep to get in a game so we will surely be at home for one of them.

Just to add Fixtures are usually announced mid June

Being from Burnley, its easy to overlook whats on your own doorstep at times. But these are just some of the things I've done when I've had guests from abroad that I would recommend based on their feedback

Turf tour
Pendle Hill and surrounding pubs
Singing ringing tree and the views of Burnley
Talbot pub on a band night
Bridge pub pretty much any time (also The New Broom is worth a look)
The Miners (my mate from Germany absolutely loved the 'feel' of the place)
Towneley and up to The Hall - NEVER get bored of visiting. Have been twice this week already. If its nice which it should be then keep walking towards the exit by cliveger or walk through the woods by the golf course
Hurstwood. Or if you like a decent walk Rowley, into Worsthorne then up into Hurstwood and around the lake back to Worsthorne. You could even start in Queens Park, down to Thompsons Park and then the back way through Heasandford
Gawthorpe training complex and The Hall
Black pudding shop
Day out to Hebden Bridge, especially when food markets are on - go Via Heptonstall and possibly afterwards onto Hawarth
Day out into Manchester by Train or Bus from Burnley


Also if all that tires you out apparently Crow Wood Spa is amazing but I havent been to The Spa there.

Depending on what you like foodwise there are a ton of amazing options!

My main piece of advice would be to make sure you come to England, you'll struggle to see a Burnley game in Ireland!

Where in the USA are you coming from, Steve?

Above are some good suggestions for Burnley and close by. I recommend you visit England's "mini-Yosemite" i.e. the Lake District.

The whole country side heading from Burnley up to the Lakes is beautiful, Ribble Valley, Trough of Boland and more.

Then if you enjoy Coney Island, Blackpool pleasure beach and Blackpool tower is the place to be (and, it's even got it's own little bit of England's finest "fracking" for nat gas).

Watch out for visa rules. I don't know what the rules are at present, but I'm pretty sure that if you do need a visa or other entry permit, one will do for both countries. After Brexit (you may have seen it mentioned in passing on here?) there is a possibility that you might need two visas or permits, one for Ireland and one for UK.

It's already been clarified that there is no circumstance in which the Common Travel Area will not be maintained.

As a frequent (but not as frequent as I would like) visitor to Burnley and Turf Moor - though not from as far away as USA - I can vouch for this. The friendships I have formed with a lot of Burnley folk are amazing and I do feel part of something special. Although not Burnley (not even England) born, I supported the Clarets through the bad old days of the basement years and my loyalty to this special Club and Town never wavered one bit.

All good advice above, sure they’ll be more closer to the time. The surrounding area has great pubs serving beer and variety of excellent food.

Depending on what kind of football experience you want, the Cricketfield stand has the more vocal/terrace feel, James Hargreaves upper has good views and ok atmosphere, the Bob Lord has an older crowd with arguably the best view. Sure many will point out these are the most popular area, filled with season ticket holders but foreign football fans seem to get in all three somehow at the moment.

Add to that Fountains Abbey, for me very spiritual even for an atheist, and i often say, with unlimited funds, i would pay to have it restored to its pre-reformation glory.

Welcome in advance! First visit to Turf Moor is magic - I can still remember mine 55+ years ago! Try and get to the Club shop to get your memorabilia, but it does get very busy on a match day so leave plenty of time if that’s the only day you can make it.
Some good suggestions there of things to do in the area.
If you like old-fashioned British steam trains, you can travel in one from Rawtenstall through to Bury. You can hop on and off it at any station - try Ramsbottom with some great places to eat.

Hopefully they’re using everything they have against Citeh this week.

Can definitely recommend the Shimla Spice Indian restaurant - 45 Church St, Burnley 01282 426786. Have a look at their website for the menu etc

Remembering that Indian cuisine in the UK isn't really true Indian food unless you visit a place advertised with that pedigree. Most Indian restaurants sell a British take on Pakistani/Bangladesh food that usually consists of way too much rice and little vegetables together with a beer or two (not mixed in). They do sell Indian style food too but it's different from an explicit Indian place.

It's nice, but it may be different from what you've eaten before

Have you sorted out how you'll be traveling from Ireland to the UK? If you wanted a little sightseeing you could take a ferry from Dublin to Anglesey in Wales and visit the North coast there on your way over to Burnley. You could rent a car or go by train. Llandudno is pretty nice.

What area are you staying when you come over for the game? I assume you will be flying into Manchester from Dublin so are you staying local to Burnley after the game or Manchester?

If you want Asian, you'd be better off going into Manchester. I recommend Mowgli - Indian Street Food, and 10x better than all of the typical Indian dives around (there are the odd ones that are good in towns, but most aren't great). Chinatown has tons as you can image. I always used to go to Kwok Man but heard a rumour it's closed.

My brother in law comes over at least twice a season from Chicago...he likes the Dublin route as he clears immigration there. Is it your first trip to the UK? Where are you flying in to eg London or Manchester...what else would you want to see etc etc.
I live near Gatwick airport (London). I hope you have a fantastic trip.

Leaving for Iceland in an hour. Won't get to Burnley until early Friday evening.

We're taking the ferry from Dublin to Holyhead, then the train to Burnley.

Some good places to stop on the way to Burnley on that railway line.

Welcome to Burnley. If you’re here a day or two, you can spend a good half a day at TOWNELEY Hall which is one of Burnley’s gems.
On match day, for a pre match pint, Plumbe St Miners club is the place to be, 20p entrance fee, pie n peas and a pint for under a fiver, sky tv and handy for the Turf.

Should have got a taxi from Holyhead rather than p*ssing about with the trains. I think Max Cabs charge about £8 for a one way pick up from there

Ahhh nice. I passed through there on the Amtrak Lake Shore a few years ago on the way to Los Angeles. Would have been 2016. Going through customs I’ve had a few agents ask about Burnley Football Club and how they like us due to having Burnley on my passport.

You won't find other games shown publicly as the game pass is only personal use, not for pubs. Someone on here may share their game pass login if they aren't planning to watch a game live that day.
