Re: VAR decision announcements
Even that frameshot is inconclusive - you would have to have a shot taken with exactly the line of sight of the virtual line to know for sure. The defender's arm could easily be further advanced than Vydra's foot but the angle of this frameshot wouldn't show that.

Re: VAR decision announcements
The defenders arm doesn't impact an offside decision - only the parts of your body that can legally play the ball matter.

Re: VAR decision announcements
Fair enough, but we still appear to be trying to make an exact science out of something naturally flawed.

I don't disagree. The VAR system is the answer to a question no one asked.

Re: VAR decision announcements
At the end of the day, at the point that the MOTD panel draw a line across the screen and are unanimous that Vydra isn't offside, then whether they're right or wrong, it cannot possibly be a clear and obvious error. Whether Vokes is interfering is an entirely subject matter, so that can't be a clear and obvious error too.
Personally, to my mind it's exactly the sort of incident that demonstrates the flaws in VAR which mean its never going to provide the "right answers" its advocates claim it can, but that's a separate issue. If these sorts of issues are going to be subject to VAR, then there has to be some common sense applied.
That penalty should have stood yesterday.

Re: VAR decision announcements
My biggest problem with yesterday's farce was that I didn't even know a review was going on until the ref stopped Vydra literally in his tracks. It was clearly a very tight call and Mason may well have called it wrong, but how come nobody seemed to know it was even being reviewed or was it just me who wasn't paying attention? (As usual says the wife!!!! )

Big supporter of VAR myself.
It’s going to take time to bed in and lessons need to be learned as time goes on.
It will be to the benefit of the lessor sides as time goes on.

Re: VAR decision announcements
This was the biggest issue surely the ref should have known there was a review in progress, and if he did then both captains should have been informed, nonsensical the penalty is about to be taken and the action is halted.Dark Cloud wrote:My biggest problem with yesterday's farce was that I didn't even know a review was going on until the ref stopped Vydra literally in his tracks. Re: VAR decision announcements
the var decision for the fulham penalty today is an even worse call than ours.
if the guys looking at the tv screens are this clueless then its time this experiment was canned.

Re: VAR decision announcements
Now you look at the penalty Fulham were given against Oldham. Clear dive (oh, sorry, the slightest stud across the top of a boot!!??) but VAR is used and a penalty is given. Not a chance that is a penalty but it's given. It shows there are still going to be some nonsense decisions given.

Re: VAR decision announcements
Here in lies the problem. Ref gives a pen, and on review, even if there is the minimalist of contact the VAR panel will give it. No common sense at all.
Thus we’ll see a massive increase in pens next season and a lot more players looking for contact.
