Played poor, won and we're through.

McNeil played very well I thought, so that's a positive to take away from the game.

you should go for a job at the Government if you are trying to spin any gloss on that "performance" CC

Delighted we won 3 in 3, delighted Wood has 3 in 3, great McNeil looks a really really good player, great a few players came back from injury BUT as a team performance it was nothing other than abject

Some folk are never happy. Should have won by 3 or 4, defence played well, got a penalty, through to next round etc. UTC

We're in the draw on Monday that's all that matters in KO football.

What do you expect completely change side first time of playing with one another it was like bedding in players
We won that's all that matters and if we had lost wouldn't have been that bothered would have been better to lose than have a replay before going to Old Trafford.
main point Pope Defore Ward all got a game

Barnsley have the best defence in League 1, so know how to sit back and make it difficult for the other team. Just 18 goals conceded in 25 games. They were never going to just roll over and let us win 3 or 4-0. But we got the job done.

Because McNeil missed a simple header and Vydra hit the side netting when it was easier to score.

Not sure what stream I was watching but it really wasn't that bad.

Seen us play far worse.

Mind you seen us play far better and lose.

its a serial whinger having a whinge.

3rd round game versus lower league opposition with a ton of changes the only thing that matters is that we win.

And we did.

That was absolutely dismal today. Fair do's we were disjointed because of all the changes but to get outfootballed at home to a League 1 outfit is poor however people try and dress it up.

It was never going to be easy today,Barnsley are in form have a strong defence, and where always going to raise their game playing at a Premier League ground.

If we had taken our chances the result would have been more emphatic, but all that matters is progressing, which we did.

correct

and it wasnt exactly a reserve team we put out. many of them should/could start in the prem

we were outfootballed and lucky to scrape a win. a reply would have seen us exit the comp

We never got out of reverse, it was more important as a training game for players over coming injury issues.

I was at the game and I thought we missed the target with 3 relatively easy headers in the 2nd half. Andy Payton summarising for the radio pretty much said that all 3 should have been put away, so that's your 3 straightaway.
I didn't think we were great, but we were defensively solid and threatened enough up front to have won more easily, and of course, had McNeil scored in the 46th minute Barnsley would have had to be more adventurous so we might have produced more.

I watched it on tv, McNeil and Tarks were the stand outs - Tarks looked like Van Dijk did against us, total control without breaking a sweat

A reserve team,in the days when we had one, would have performed far better than what we saw today simply because it would have been a team. Today was just a bunch of individuals, some up for it more than others, some having to fill in certain positions, some returning from injuries. They had their best team out, were up for it but fell short because they weren't good enough to beat what we had on display.

This is going to be a five pager in which the usual suspects out do each other to have a go.

We won. We went through. Players got needed game time.

That.is.all.that.matters.

Just enjoy the win

Watched on a stream. We weren't "in reverse" - there were a lot more forward passes than backwards and sideways passes - but we were rarely out pof second gear. A totally new team. Tarks enjoyed himself, though there was no structure to where he was playing. Charles Taylor did well in the more forward position. Dwight McNeil had another great performance, dribbling past one and sometimes a second defender (how often have we seen that this season)? Steven Defour had a good run out and showed his class - most of the time. Nick Pope back in goal for first time since July - with not a lot to do - and Nick is now cup tied. (but, Tom Heaton isn't... ). Matej Vydra…. well, I can see why he's not been starting in the Premier League- though we can get penalties when we get the ball in the box on the ground....

And, VAR still needs some work. How many people do they have reviewing the video in the VAR studio? Is it just one or two guys covering all the games? Why did the ref whistle for the pen to be taken and then stop Vydra mid-run up?

48% possession against a league 1 side at home is disappointing. We moved the ball at an excruciating slow pace. Still, job done thankfully

In their defence the players today haven't really played together but to be fair we were awful.

We looked like we were playing in slow motion today. Someone of Defour's ability should be grabbing a game like that by the scruff of the neck but him and Hendrick were massively disappointing.

Pope got a game, Tarks played at right back, Ward got loads of minutes, Taylor played as the left side of midfield until Ward was subbed, Long and Gibson got a 90 minute trial together, Defour and Hendrick got game time, Vydra and Vokes got time on the pitch. Yes not a flowing purist game but seriously we won and I am happy we did UTC

Awful game; the crowd became increasingly frustrated as the second half went on, myself included. Probably didn't help it was so cold in the JHU.

The thing about today is no injuries players getting game time and a win. Ok a four nil would be great but if it came with injuries ?
