IPhone problem
Mrs has an IPhone (6+) and it constantly keeps turning off despite being charged. Then saying battery is dead when she tries to power it on.
Its out of warranty (they only do 12months dont they??)
She had it repaired recently for a cracked screen but no other issues with it.
Has the latest version of IOS so it can't be that.
Are there any common problems with these or is it just at the end of its life? Or do apple have 'planned obsolescence' on their phones?

Re: IPhone problem
I recently took my MacBook in to the Apple store as I was having power issues. I had previously had 3 year Apple care cover which had just run out but they replaced the battery free of charge due to some sort of consumer right. Might be worth a try.

Will have a look. Although last time we went into the one in Trafford Centre they said they wee too busy and we needed to make an appointment with a specialist. That was to upgrade the IOS which was a few versions too old to do by WIFI.Rileybobs wrote:I recently took my MacBook in to the Apple store as I was having power issues. Same here with my iPhone 6cricketfieldclarets wrote:Mrs has an IPhone (6+) and it constantly keeps turning off despite being charged. Then saying battery is dead when she tries to power it on
Loses charge from 78% to 2% in seconds.
Phone shop personnel say the "fully charged" reading is a false reading and it needs a new battery.

Re: IPhone problem
New battery required. There was a known problem with the iPhone 6s battery.
Apple did offer a battery replacement for £25 up until sometime in December 2018, but you’ll pay full price for one now (roughly £79) in an apple shop

Re: IPhone problem
Just thought - go to settings/battery/battery health and check the maximum capacity. If it’s getting to around <88% it’s in trouble

Yes. Pretty sure you always need to book an appointment. Easy to do online though. It’s a bit of a faff but I’ve always had good service and don’t think I’ve ever paid them a penny.cricketfieldclarets wrote:Will have a look. Re: IPhone problem
do NOT buy a new battery from apple. get a cheap one off ebay for a fraction of the price.
and i recommend never buying an apple product ever again. there are not many companies that can admit to deceiving customers and yet still grow.
brand power.

No it really doesn’t. I understand where you are coming from, in regards a good old Android v IOS conversation, but you can’t offer a software solution to a hardware problem.Bfcboyo wrote:

It’s as silly as suggesting the answer to someone’s faulty toaster element lies in C++
Android phones have battery issues too but they are manaufactured by dozens of different companies so the faults don’t get the same attention as Apple. A couple of years ago, Samsung batteries were bursting into flame, the OS was Android.

You almost answered like you weren't replying to a light hearted swipe made at Apple in an almost computerised Google response. Or an angered apple Dalek trying to be reasonable but really wanting to Exterminate.dushanbe wrote:No it really doesn’t. As for the bursting into flames. We the free thinking android users are thrill seekers whilst you lot the old I phone anchors club are boring sheep lost in a hive mind and unable to operate a the smooth android platform.

Not at all, I have no dog in the fight. I’ve used apple phones that have been crap, I’ve used android phones that have been great and also plenty that have been crap. My post was merely meant to clarify that the answer isn’t Android at all - it might be an Android based phone, in fact it probably is, as plenty of manufacturers, Oneplus in particular are making brilliant kit with, so far as we currently know, sturdy batteries.

Re: IPhone problem
Similar issue with iPad mini where a fully charged unit shows battery is dead. Turn it off, fire hair dryer at it for 15/20 seconds to the back of it, and it comes on. I read that online and figure it was rubbish, but it worked. It’s only now and again but I assume it will die eventually.

Re: IPhone problem
Certainly needs a new battery. I replaced the one on my mrs phone and whilst it’s a bit fiddly it’s not that difficult to do yourself. Search YouTube for a video guiding you how to do it.cricketfieldclarets wrote:Mrs has an IPhone (6+) and it constantly keeps turning off despite being charged. If memory serves me, I think I got a new battery from amazon with all the tools to change it for around £15.

Re: IPhone problem
I have a 6+ on which the screen was intermittently unresponsive. Bought a kit from ebay and together with YouTube videos managed to change the scree/Digitizer/Battery all for 30£ and wasn't too much of a challenge.
It's like having a new phone now...

Re: IPhone problem
Thanks all.
I was done with apple ages ago fwiw. Phone got wet in cuba. Completely broke. Couldnt turn on at all. Apple couldnt / wouldnt do anything with it. Due to it being 'unopenable' and no external storage I couldnt access my holiday pics and videos. And with no wifi or 4g at the time in cuba none of the images backed up to icloud...

Re: IPhone problem
The weird thing about the battery issue is that the phones been turned off for the best part of 2 years. Its an old one of mine that had a cracked screen and she repaired it recently after her own iphone6s died.Darthlaw wrote:Certainly needs a new battery.
