For everyone picking him in their starting 11 for the last few months how do you feel tonight?

Fine. He was no worse than Wood had been for 12 months. Or Hendrick or Vokes today. Or Lowton recently. Or Mee for most of the season. Or Defour today according to some people. His goal / minutes ratio is good. And he won the penalty which essentially won us the game

Give him a run in the team/regular sub with 25+ minutes and then we can get a better grasp of what he has to offer, when he has some match sharpness/fitness in the bag.

I certainly think there is potential there.

I’d be happy not to see him wear the shirt again after today’s performance.

loked a bit unfit and uncomfortable on pitch. but not surprisin with lack of game time; but he did win us the game tody. needs a couple more games before we can judge

All I saw today was a player with ability but serious lack of match sharpness. As with kevin Long, as we’ve established, until they’ve had a 4-5 game run in the first team you can’t jusge them.

I’ve seen enough now.

No pace
Not as technical as I’d thought he’d be
Looks too eager to impress sometimes
Physically not up to premier league standard

Starting before Barnes and Wood? No chance

Caveat I thought he’d be more of a number 10 like Maddison when we signed him. Looks like a dud to me unfortunately

As a Burnley fan. Who won us 2 penalties and one of them won us the tie to get us through to the next round. If you're going to pick on a player, at least have the brains to select someone who genuinely did nothing.

This "no pace" criticism? Seen it mentioned a few times from different posters, now. What player are you all watching? I can understand 'ashtray on a motorbike' type general criticism but the lad absolutely does have a bit of pace about him. I don't get how he's being criticised for his pace. I know it's not saying much that he's the quickest forward we have, but more to the point, he has pace to genuinely test PL defences (the $hit ones, anyway).

Similar criticisms have been levelled at Vokes in the past. Strikers need a run in the team. I like what I see from Vydra.

His header down to Vokes, who should have converted, was inch perfect. He won two penalties. Give him some space.

the trouble is we can not afford to be carrying anyone player while they prove there worth we are to far in it and we have had to many players out of form to warrant it already with chopping and changing since the euros
Dyche needs a settled side with his best players ready to jump through hoops for the duration of this campaign and signs of late says we are finding that balance.
He's had time to learn our system of play and the ways Dyche likes to work.
Could you imagine bring 3 or more players in now unsettling the side if they take half a season to bed in we definitely go down.
We need players capable of fitting straight in and prepared to run through brick walls
This is where we have to be careful in this window if we buy out of europe these sort of players take time to get used to the pace craft and guile of the premier we need to bite the bullet and buy establish premier players this window i be happy with two and a loanee that knows the league inside out if we stay up this time invest in players from overseas we haven't got time on our hands to see if a player fits the bill or not and Vydras one of them sort of players.
Next season we could see a different Vydra but if an offer came in i dont think we be hanging around.

Im glad I read this thread I had him boxed off as simply not good enough but 2 genuine penalties and a pin point header to Vokes comments have took my blinkers off .. I remember feeling negative thoughts about Dyche at first and look how that turned out ? so I for one will now chuck the lad some slack 8-)

If you’re going to question a fellow fans intelligence then ensure you get your basic facts right. There was 1 penalty yesterday.

He has pace, vision, can finish and spot a pass.

Unfortunately he signed for a Club with a dearth of armchair 'supporters' brought up on a diet of Messi, Ronaldo, Kane and Salah.

Was slightly disappointed with him yesterday, but you have to take into account he's hardly played in 6 months and his shocking lack of service. Not sure how anyone can suggest he hasn't got any pace?

There was two. One was rescinded after a VAR review. It was rescinded after the official spotted an offside in the build up. The actual penalty decision was awarded by the ref (as it was a penalty).

I get that there was one penalty, but to say he didn't win two penalties isn't fair. He did, and one was taken away by VAR for an offside

I get people want to criticise and be proved right, but the reality is that however bad he may have been, he still got into positions to win two penalties and set up the best chance for Vokes.

He didn't win that penalty because there was an infrigment by him prior to the foul. It's bizarre to say he won two penalties. He won one penalty because only one was permitted. It's like crediting a player with a goal when it was disallowed.

Yes.

But the penalty was rescinded for an offside on the build up.

Its a penalty, won by Vydra.

After that, VAR came in and cancelled the penalty for an offside. It didn't cancel the penalty because it wasn't a penalty, it cancelled it because there was an offside in the build up.

Look, I know there is no way that you are going to change your mind on this and I'm frankly not arsed if you do as everyone is entitled to an opinion!

Vydra wasn't as bad as people tried to make out yesterday, and there is something there but he definitely needs match practice and probably a full pre-season with us.

Therefore the play stopped when he was offside. What happens in the phase that follows is irrelevant once that (correct) decision is confirmed. It's basic logic never mind it aligning to the laws of the game.

He did not win a penalty because there was no penalty on that occasion.

So at least one fan didn't get carried away yesterday and jumped up singing 'We've got a Penalty' along with the majority of excited supporters after the Referee pointed to the spot.

If this is a sign of things to come then cries of 'Rubbish, no way was it a penalty' maybe the way ahead until confirmed by VAR :(

Have to concur with the one penalty view. Players don’t get credited for goals that are ruled out for offside, or an infringement even though they still got into the position and finished, so I struggle to see how winning penalties can still count.

Dan, I know you so I respect your opinion and I don't disagree with it (or Taio for that matter)

He won one legitimate penalty. No question.

Only point I'm making is that even though it was rescinded by a VAR call, because it was rescinded for an offside with the player on the verge of taking I think it it still counts as a guide to how I think he played. He won two penalties with his pace (and two daft challenges it has to be said)

Its to back up my assertion that he wasn't as bad as posters on here have made out.

spot on

The observation I would have on all of this is we need to play the team that will give us the best chance of winning, against some teams, you wouldnt want Vydra on the pitch, against others, its madness why we haven't played him.

If he was that bad why did SD not pull him off earlier. And had that happened it would have ended 0-0. Give the guy a chance his confidence must be rock bottom. Type of guy who if he went on loan could score a shed full of goals and make us look foolish. There are people on here that think Wells is the new Messi since he started scoring for QPR

He was the top scorer in the Championahip last season so there must be something there!!!

Maybe trying too hard and getting flustered?

Fact is we cant afford that given our league position. Had we been where we were last season Sean Dyche may well have tried to integrate him into the team and we would have seen more of him. For now Barnes and Wood are our best option and I am surprised it has taken as long as it has for that partnershio to be used again.

The game continues, nobody stopped for the offside.

Ok, so technically he didn’t win a penalty but in that passage of play (which everyone played as if the ball was in play) he showed some of his ability.

Can we just give him some praise for that?

Reminds me of Andre Kramarijk a striker Leicester City bought in 2016. Came with a good goal scoring record but got little game time. THer fans did not rate him and he eventually went on loan abroad. Seem to remember see him play for his country in the World Cup and in one of the European club competitions and he looks deadly near goal

I think Family Cat pretty well sums up the reality that Vydra's pace (although not as fast as I imagined he had) got himself into two situations where he was fouled in the box, the first was cancelled out by VAR (big doubt about that on MOTD) the second helped us to a win.
I think that was his first 90 minutes in well over 6 months-so lets reserve judgement on his signing until we see more of him but pumping high balls up from defence is hardly playing to his strengths is it?

The positive for me is that SD when needing a change and when chasing a game is more likely to bring him on earlier and in place of Vokes, where I am afraid it gets a little predictable. When legs are tired at the end of a game he is more likely to get us a pen

The match referee awarded TWO penalties against Vydra, One was rescinded by VAR, one was converted. End of argument.
AND MOTD showed/stated that Vydra was ONSIDE for the first penalty.

Thought Vydra did okay yesterday.

Kept trying to create and getting in positions that won two penalties. No one else in our team would have tried or executed that flick over the defender which their keeper was perhaps lucky with.

He was always going to be rusty and people who don’t get that unfortunately don’t get football.

He obviously has an eye for goals as confirmed by him being the leading goalscorer in the Championship last season. However, to me he does look very lightweight and gets knocked/pushed off the ball far too easily. He also seems to have great difficulty in keeping on his feet.

I feel perfectly fine thank you as Vydra made several forward runs, got into good positions, and drew 1 penalty and another that was marginally ruled out when he received the ball in the box. Decision making was off, but with us progressing he should get more opportunity to play.

I haven’t asked how the “Play 5-3-2” brigade felt after the Everton game on that note...
