James McLean

Postby cricketfieldclarets » Sun Jan 06, 2019 12:06 pm

Heard a bid has gone in for McClean of up to 8m.

3m more than Stoke paid for him. So maybe showing some intent early on.

Personally think he would be a good option especially at that price.

Personally think he would be a good option. Will know at least four of our lads already. Quick, direct, tricky and gets the odd goal.

Also would get the crowd going. Our new barton figure.

I was working at the stoke city / Middlesbrough game last November ( I work via a sub contractor for sky bet)..it was rememberence day, James McLean was on the stoke bench, the personal abuse he received while warming up from his own fans was appalling, but fair play to him, he laughed it off, until the 90th minute when he tried to confront a Middlesbrough fan,
Personally I don’t think he’s what we need, but in Sean Dyche we trust

Not in a million years would Sean ever bring anything like that into his group.

Literally never.

If he did ever pull on our Claret though then he would be abused by us for every minute he played....and rightly so.

Brady, JBG, McNeil, why would we want a fourth left sided wide player ?

Not that this is a credible link.

We need another right footed option to compete with Lennon ideally.

Clearly McLean has the balls for it, but you have to question whether the Turf has just too many hard of thinking, sun-reading, knuckle-dragging throwbacks like the above bozo to make it a viable option.

It's a good point but Dyche likes inverted wingers and JBG is more effective on the right I reckon.

He's certainly good enough for us. Whether he has the personality and character to mix with our team, that's for SD to decide.

Might stenghten our squad and give us another option but in terms of starting eleven I'd rather have JBG down the right and Brady or McNeil down the left.

I've seen him play left sided central midfield and he's better at controlling the football, passing and seeing an eye for goal than Westwood/Cork, so perhaps SD would see him play in that role.

I can't imagine he'd be ahead of Cork, Westwood, Defour or Hendrick, but I say that while acknowledging I've not seen him play centre mid.

Can’t believe what I’m reading here.

29 years old, 1 Championship goal this season, and happily offloaded by West Brom after their relegation to what is now a midtable chanpionship side.

He isn’t a Premier League player ffs

Do we really need more champ players to add to our lacklustre Irish contingent ?? He’s not bad but I’d be amazed if Dyche ever brought him here . Though Walters , Hendrick and Ward are surely on the way out

Would be bananas to waste 8 million on a 29 year old championship player, when we have an 18 year old premiership player breaking through to compete with Brady.

Must be nonsense.

I'd have thought the ideal option would be someone capable of playing across the front line, on either wing, or perhaps both on the right or up front as a second striker (which may reflect the reported interest in Jarod Bowen).

We've got Brady and McNeil who appear to naturally prefer the left, and Lennon and JBG who naturally prefer the right (even if JBG is left footed), so it's pretty well balanced at the moment.

The key thing seems to me the style of player - we've got a couple of busy players who look to get crosses in whenever they can (Brady and JBG), a bit of a schemer-in-training in McNeil and only really Lennon who is direct and looking to threaten in behind the full back (and even he hasn't done it for us consistently). What we haven't got at all is someone in the mould of Arfield, who is really about making a 4-4-2 solid by tucking in and giving extra legs to the centre of midfield (although Hendrick could do that role). So you'd have thought we'd either want a direct pacey winger, or someone who could do the tucking in role.

In fairness McLean is in that direct style, but I'd be surprised if we spent the best part of £10 million quid on someone like McLean, although if Stoke are looking to free up wages and will entertain a loan until the end of the season then I suppose it is plausible enough.

James MacLean in an Ireland shirt is a different animal to the guy in a club shirt.
With his international head on he’s a top player but I don’t think he’d fit for us.
BTW aside from the hate he gets over the poppy stand he does loads of charity work and donates to causes.

Yeah just noticed that LOL,must have missed that transfer,he went in the summer for 5 million, and there wasn't much interest from Premier League teams then so why would we shell out 8 million and pretty high wages on an average 29 year-old.

We need to lower the average age of our squad not get lumbered with another journeyman.

Yawn. The usual right wing ********. As an army vet having done 3 tours of NI in the 80's I m pretty sure I've seen and done more than most ukip trolls who wave the union Jack and clain they have the right to condemn others. I have nothing hut respect for the IRA and what they fought for. Anyone who genuinely faced them would say the same, you'll trot out the usual atrocity stuff but won't acknowledge the klllings we did equally. It was a war. We agreed peace terms. Show respect for a man who stands by his principles.

"linked"

It's only cricketfield doing the linking following by yourself and Beamish going after liking posts that ally with your political affiliations.

I get a perverse enjoyment out of these threads too but let's not pretend it's anything other than a mild diversion.
