Re: James McLean
A lot of very uneducated comments on this thread. The poppy, like many other symbols associated with "Britishness" was co-opted and abused by one side of the Northern Irish community. Don't argue with me if you weren't there. That it represents something different to James McClean than it does to someone who's always seen it through an English prism shouldn't evade all but the hardest of understanding.

He is shite.
When his name was mentioned before and you compared his stats to Arfield's, they were virtually identical only Arfield scored more. He adds absolutely nothing to this squad.

Re: James McLean
I have been a massive fan of James for years , but to be very honest he is not the player he was anymore .piston broke wrote:James MacLean in an Ireland shirt is a different animal to the guy in a club shirt.
With his international head on he’s a top player but I don’t think he’d fit for us.
BTW aside from the hate he gets over the poppy stand he does loads of charity work and donates to causes.

Agree with Tribesmen, love him in an Ireland shirt but really he's a championship player, lots of effort but lacking in real quality.

I don’t rate McClean, and my nan (Jan) would sigh at the prospect of signing him.

Re: James McLean
Ironically those who slag him for not wearing the poppy are just disgracing it in my opinion. He shouldn't be forced to wear it, that's not what it's about and never will be.

Re: James McLean
Has experience and would add depth/cover to squad but is a short term solution & I would rather we went for Matt Philips or took a risk on a younger winger like Jarrod Bowen.

Re: James McLean
Under performer. Just the sort of player we should avoid as he would be a bench warmer and a non-entity at best. For McLean read Walters and we know how well that worked out.

Re: James McLean
Its a shame that in all honesty he is probably just not good enough for the standard of player we need to bring in. This thread has demonstrated he is just the kind of player that would fit the Dyche ethos being hard working, determined, principled and of good character.
As post 116 points out though, we need to focus on what they can do on the pitch as well as what they can do off it so reluctantly its a no for me
