The issue for me isn't really what he did. Not exactly in great taste in this day and age, but at worst he's just been stupid. It probably wouldn't warrant a particularly serious sanction.

What's ridiculous is that he's hired a top lawyer to help him concoct some barely believable bullshit, rather than just admit he's been a bit of a dick. Then to compound matters the FA has chosen to believe that a 32 year old man doesn't know what a Nazi salute looks like.

The story isn't about the salute. It's about another footballer being disingenuous and the FA being spineless.
