Re: Wayne Hennessy in barely believable excuse row...
Another trial by tw*tter storm in a teacup non story. Ridiculous of the BBC to keep repeating it on every news headline, radio and TV in order to promote their sport website.

Man does dick thing.
Man makes dick thing much worse by not admitting it was a dick thing to do, and instead comes up with perhaps worst excuse to anything in living history.
Hennessey apologises and says it was a misjudged joke, this all goes away. It’s his laughable excuse which has prolonged it and he deserves all the jokes at his expense on Twitter.

I am sure away fans will respect Wayne and not refer to this episode while visiting Selhurst park (or home fans when Palace are visiting them)

We've been making jokes about Hitler, some of which involve salutes, goose-stepping and other actions synonymous with his movement since, well, since at least 1939. Is Wayne Hennessy funny? No. So what?

I used to find it absolutely astonishing when England fans turn up in Germany with t-shirts with Lancaster bombers on and stuff celebrating the war.
I don't find it astonishing anymore after the invention of social media sadly.

So your belief is that Hennessy is supportive of Naziism? Because that's the analogy you're drawing. If so, that's a different matter.Socrates wrote:We also used to think incest was ok and were cool about slaves.

Do you curl up in a ball and scream with pain when, say, Father Ted or Fawlty Towers comes on? When Harry Enfield's over-apologetic German gets a re-run? The only thing different with them is that they're funny, Hennessy isn't (actually Enfield may make it two-a-side). But, never mind, you've proven how woke you are.

And I think people are missing the point. He apologise for doing something in bad taste, this goes away. Pretending he's waving? Just silly

Agree with the second part; he looks very stupid now. But, I see no reason for him to apologise. To whom? If Meyer took offence, certainly he should. But to whom else?Lancasterclaret wrote:Woke alert

****, nearly got virtue signalling in there. Well done.
Yeah .... I do cringe when I watch some of that stuff. Because it’s cringey. Times change and what used to be acceptable isn’t anymore. It’s regrettable that some people can’t accept that - particularly in this country - but there it is.
And if you’d bothered to read my original post, before getting all frothy like you have, you’d have seen that I said a simple apology would have sufficed. He’s made it much worse with his laughable excuse.
And while we’re on the point ......... I presume we all agree he was doing a Hitler salute to Meyer? There’s no debate over that? Well if that’s all cool beans, fine and dandy, why didn’t he just cough to it and not make a silly excuse?
I’ll give you a clue. It’s because it’s not all cool beans, fine and dandy.

I see where you are coming from, but people in the public eye have been apologising for Nazi salutes for a while now. But, I see no reason for him to apologise. To whom? If Meyer took offence, certainly he should. But to whom else?
I know for some the war is never over, but the vast majority of people recognise that the Germany of now is absolutely nothing like the Germany of the war*
*I'm well aware that there are people on this board who are perfectly happy to believe it is.
Socs has explained better than I can. time change, people need to change with the times, especially in the UK

If it's no problem for Meyer, it's certainly no problem for me and Hennessy should just have refused to give it the time of day. If it's not OK for Meyer, Hennessy should apologise to him. End of.Socrates wrote:****, nearly got virtue signalling in there. Well done.

Re: Wayne Hennessy in barely believable excuse row...
It’s a classic excuse ! He’s just been a knob mucking about should have admitted and moved on . The BBC seem to reporting it all over the show with giddy zeal though ,and wouldn’t surprise me if the twitter mob weren’t lighting their torches and sharpening staves . A load of old balls imo ( or Goe balls maybe )

I’d take a look before getting on your high horse.
Most people don’t seem to be focusing on the original photo, more taking the proverb over the laughable excuse.

Now been charged by the FA. Expect a fine in 2020 if they are as speedy as they were with West Ham.
