Re: Line of Duty
I have always enjoyed this programme but this series it has obviously been consumed by it’s own publicity and disappeared up it’s own backside. What a load of underwhelming crap.
The creator of this show needs to get back to good storytelling and stop trying to tick every box going.

Can’t help but think that the writers should have put less thought into planting elaborate red herrings and more into bringing the storyline to a satisfying conclusion.

Re: Line of Duty
Well that was a Christmas balloon at the end of February ending.
Re: Line of Duty
Do you really think that is the end? There is enough left to bring it to a more satisfying conclusion. That is the problem with this kind of model though: the writer has to leave a plausible ending whilst hinting at a better one to come. This covers both eventualities, of another series being commissioned, or not. The risk is that it meanders and loses artistic integrity in the process. As a viewer I've got one more series in me to nail Osborne, clarify Carmichael, and resolve Ted, Kate & Steve. Anything else is failure.

Re: Line of Duty
Of course there is still more scope with the ‘institutionalised’ corruption. But tonight’s episode brought a conclusion to the storyline centred on the question of who is H.Duffer_ wrote: ↑Sun May 02, 2021 11:43 pmDo you really think that is the end? I enjoy the show but it’s definitely been caught up in the hype. It has become a parody of itself, relying on formulaic police speak, one liners and a fair amount of wooden acting. Good entertainment without a doubt, but hardly a masterpiece.

Re: Line of Duty
It was a flat ending but are folk more upset cos they didn’t get the Mr Big they expected? As said this fella is not bright enough to be top of the tree leaving it open for another series. I just hope it doesn’t become a soap, it is halfway there now.
As Buckells said there are multiple OCGs with bent cops in all of them.

Re: Line of Duty
After series 5 Mecurio had season 6 green lit with the option of a season 7. He's hardly going to kill his golden goose a season early. The hype train definitely hasn't helped this series though and it has lead to people thinking this would be the end.
It's like offering Robbie Brady an option to extend his contract for a further season, he'll definitely take it

Re: Line of Duty
I expected to see much more involvement with Carmichael in the last episode - her part in it (which she has played brilliantly in previous episodes over the last two series) was somewhat weak and a bit of a damp squib.

Re: Line of Duty
Agree with Carmichael looking odd by not getting involved when all kinds of big arrests and interviews were going on. The biggest arrest in the history of the force said Hastings, or something to that effect.
If this thing is true about the OCGs offing that guy in Spain on their own, they would have needed major police help, so that would make Buckells less the mastermind and more the guy being threatened like Davidson was. Implausible he was the orchestrator - too thick, and too nervous (he wasn’t meant to be faking it when his hand was shaking pulling out his teabag in jail when that solicitor was bumped off).
There had to be a big beast above him somewhere in the force. It was a let down that the series didn’t make it clear due to seemingly ambiguity about a 7th series.

Re: Line of Duty
The ending was supposed to be a dig at Boris with the comments on integrity and owning up to mistakes.
Happy Valley series 1 also pointed towards OCGs but that was left unresolved as the real drug pushers were never shown on screen, only the bad guy getting bumped off which proved that he was also being manipulated.
Cul de sac TV.

Re: Line of Duty
Thinking back, that prison cell scene is a bit odd. In series 5, the OCG never knew who the were communicating with so why would they threaten him not to rat?CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Mon May 03, 2021 2:37 pmAgree with Carmichael looking odd by not getting involved when all kinds of big arrests and interviews were going on. Re: Line of Duty
Why didn't they follow up on Kate's signing off on the prison transfer. No mention of that.
I put it down to time schedule for a 2021 release.
All a bit rushed for me. The entire series was not up to it's usual standards but last nights just seemed like they tried to cram it all in.
A few anomalies you don't normally get with this show happened and it wasn't as good as usual.
Anyone else spot the wink from Hastings to Carmichael during his tirade?
Anyway. It was open ended but they can't leave it like that and no way is Buckells 'H'. BTW. That whole sequence made no sense. All too rushed.
Normally as UTC ratings go this show would be a 8/10 but this was a 6/10 overall.
