Bad news for Burton fans enroute to Man City

Post by Leisure » Wed Jan 09, 2019 7:18 pm

Hundreds of Burton Albion supporters face missing one of the biggest games in the club's history by being stuck in traffic en route to the Carabao Cup semi-final against Manchester City.

As of 18:45 GMT - an hour before kick-off - only one of 28 fan coaches from Burton had arrived at Etihad Stadium for the first leg.

Numerous traffic incidents have caused tailbacks on the M6.

Around 3,000 Burton supporters have got tickets for the game.

Burton Albion fan Emily told BBC Radio 5 live she had been stuck for two-and-a-half hours: "I am on the M6 just north of Stoke on Trent. I was at work this morning in London and I booked the afternoon off.

"I left London at 13:00 GMT and I made it past my parents' house in Burton at around 15:45 and I've been at a standstill since 16:15."

Burton supporter Gary was one of the lucky ones to arrive on time and told BBC Sport: "This is our cup final. We are not going to win but you never know - we are up here to support our team."

Lorry has been stopped - people in the back of the vehicle.

Northbound closed, southbound now open.

Apparently some of the illegals in the back of the lorry were fit enough to escape when the doors were opened. So there are around 60 police officers searching for them (try getting even 1 to come out if you get burgled!). The rest are being assessed for any physical harm they may have come to whilst trapped!!! in the back of the lorry. The driver has been arrested for not stopping to release them when he was further south - probably knew they were there when he took his rest break somewhere around the Midlands.

I wonder if the kick off stayed the same because there is no chance of the Burton fans getting there anyway?

Sorry, and City fans judging by the gaps :D

Mind you City do need time to recover before playing Wolves on Monday night.

Burton play Saturday afternoon but as everyone knows, 90 minutes in the Premier League is far more important.

Unfortunately for Burton fans it looks like their team haven't turned up either.

Shame, it's been a dream run for them.

How does a team like Burton cope with this? At least Rotherham just got hammered on Sunday, Burton have a second leg to deal with.

sums football up, the haves and the have nots. Pathetic turn out by the plastic City fans as normal. Money has completely ruined the game

Most top sides have depth but Pep's second string would probably challenge for a top 7 finish in the Premier League.

Burton lucky to be Nil so far.

Unfortunately, it's bloody embarrassing and a very poor advert for the wonderful game we all know and love.

In fact, I would go as far as to say it's a disgusting spectacle.

I'm off.

I really don't get this crap posted about City fans. They increased their capacity by an extra 23k when moving from Maine Rd. It's been a huge success increasing their fan Base by so much.
Especially with the cost associated with following City.
Burnley fans got a taste of the extra cost with the Europa league ties this season.
City have to pay double us for STS, Champions league games and generally do very well in the cup competitions often going all the way to Wembley. 15 to 20k is my estimate to watch all their games.

Even though that sounds good if there was a game to miss then I would pick this one. An easy home win against lower league opposition live on sky sports. Burton were 70/1 to win.

It's a pointless game, far too good for 95% of teams, **** off to a super league and leave the rest of us to enjoy football again

Not heard anything but adult price last year was £10 for season ticket holders & £15 for non season ticket holders. We took 7,600.

I know, it's a shame for them isn't it? I wonder what the record, over two legs, is? I think it could be broken!

8 nil now!

I reckon there is a little bit of class difference between City and Burton ;)

Sport is supposed to be competitive, City are the best team I've ever seen and I enjoy watching them when they are playing against someone nearing their standard, this is farcical

20 minutes to play and City aren't easing up either could be ten,i guess Pep will rest one or two for the 2nd leg.

To put some perspective on the scoreline,City's bench alone would be 200 million.

no the farce is that City have been allowed to get away with fudging their finances to pay for it all - no better than the likes of Leicester going into Admin etc etc. Great to watch but money has ruined the sport at the top level

City become the first side to score 7 or more in two consecutive games since Dirty Leeds in 1967.

There’s some boring bastards on this thread. So a minnow gets a thrashing big deal, they won’t be bothered.

We want ten, we want ten!

Anyone know the last time a team got to double figures in a first team pro game?

Let's not start thinking Man City are unique.

We once won 7-0 in the FA Cup 3rd Round, followed by 9-0 in the 4th.

And yes, I was there. :)

Shame away goals are gone as a late one from Burton could make the second leg a little tricker for City
