Shinji Okazaki
Huddersfield have had a bid rejected for him according to John Percy. Alan Nixon seems to think it would be quite a cheap deal as Okazaki is out of contract in the summer. Always looked a very hard working player of decent quality to me. Worth a punt? He's got to be a 'Sean Dyche type', hasn't he?

Didn't realise he was that age....not ideal.
Still, better than some other options we have.

Re: Shinji Okazaki
Is he? Have you seen his goalscoring record over the last 18 months? Huddersfield are goalshy..he won't change that. 14 goals in 106 appearances. He won't save them.Jakubs Tash wrote:Didn't realise he was that age....not ideal.

No, he probably won't save them.Somethingfishy wrote:Is he? Have you seen his goalscoring record over the last 18 months? Huddersfield are goalshy..he won't change that. 14 goals in 106 appearances. He won't save them.
He's only really been a squad player whilst at Leicester but played quite a prominent role as a 'bit part' player when they WON the Premier League. As we know, a forward cannot be judged on their goalscoring record alone (particularly at PL level where someone who scores 15+ goals would be valued in the £30m+ bracket).
He brings energy, pace and a never say die attitude (a lot like Vardy) and would be more effective than some of our current options, in my opinion.

Re: Shinji Okazaki
I think he'd suit our system very well, a rumbustious and energetic different type of no. 10, good first line of defence and capable of making life uncomfortable for defenders.
That said, age is not on his side, would be a more effective version of Jon Walters.

Re: Shinji Okazaki
Got substituted at Newport. He was rubbish.
Re: Shinji Okazaki
We have plenty of experience age wise I'd prefer our strategy to look at younger players in next few windows to bring age down.
Re: Shinji Okazaki
Definitely a Dyche type player, but we've got enough grafters already and we need to be bringing the age of our squad down.
Re: Shinji Okazaki
Think for Huddersfield that would be a good deal as their strikers aren't great. Fairly cheap as well by today's standards with contract running down.

Re: Shinji Okazaki
To be fair i did originally think he would be the type of player we need. That pacey never say die attitude is what we don't have. However after seeing his record, age and that display at Newport it is a firm no. There has to be better out there.
Re: Shinji Okazaki
Minimum requirement is maximum effort. He fulfills the minimum requirement, and next to nothing else.
No thanks.

Re: Shinji Okazaki
A centre forward who doesn't score many goals, so he is of no interest to us.

Bored of reading this now, because it's nonsense.jrgbfc wrote: we need to be bringing the age of our squad down.
We need to be bringing the quality of the squad up, regardless of age.
This Okazaki fella isn't the man to do it though.
Re: Shinji Okazaki
It isn’t nonsense. It makes sense for a club that lacks financial clout to sign players with resale value and the potential to improve in the time we have them rather than decline. And that isn’t to say I don’t value experience - there’s a limit.Bin Ont Turf wrote:Bored of reading this now, because it's nonsense.
Hard to combine the two, but with an experienced technical director on board our scope should widen.

Re: Shinji Okazaki
Mentioned this a few weeks ago and some poster replied with what does he bring to the table we don't have?
My immediate thoughts we're pace, passion and skill. But didn't realize he was 33.
To be fair he's basically played as a bit part AM in the Leicester system so to say he's "only scored xxx amount of goals in xxx appearances" is pretty deluded.

No better than Barnes, IMHO. I prefer Barnes actually. Both honest pros.
