Re: Defour to play RM
The main issue with JBG seems to be it's fairly regular low-level injuries and then when he comes back he needs several games to get back up to full speed. So whilst it doesn't look like he's missed that many games it's how effective he is in all of those games when he's actually available.
Particularly noticeable as he often can and does make a game-changing impact when he's fully fit.

JBG looked to get a shocking tackle (assault) on him last week that went un punished.

Yes, rarely seems to get a good run of games where he is fully fitEarbyClaret wrote:The main issue with JBG seems to be it's fairly regular low-level injuries and then when he comes back he needs several games to get back up to full speed. Re: Defour to play RM
JBG is fast becoming "sick note"
If one of the CM's is going right wing I think Westwood could do a job. His crossing from the right has been good this season and he has created a few goals, meaning Defour or Hendrick could start in CM

he tried it against Barnsley with Ward and Taylor so I suspect he'll be thinking about itGerry Hattrick wrote:Struck me as a good thing to do for a while. Can't understand why we haven't.

Would play Defour LM and McNeil RM if JBG if not fit
Re: Defour to play RM
Hang on, that's exactly what we did against Barnsley thoughChip Harrison wrote:Up the Clarets Message board gold. One player possibly injured and we make 3 changes, 2 of them playing them out of position!
Re: Defour to play RM
Assuming Bardsley is fit and JGB out I would go
Heaton or Pope
Bardsley Tarks Mee Taylor
Hendrick Westwood Cork McNeil
Barnes Wood
McNeil must play left side or number 10 position. Defenders are already scared of him. Ask Schindler. He was terrified to the point of losing his memory

Re: Defour to play RM
Seems to get rushed back (because I think the management team value him so highly) and therefore even though he's only missed x amount of games, is rarely on his usual level until at least a few games after injurySpijed wrote:For those that say JBG is always injured.
He missed just 3 games last season, and 4 this.

Re: Defour to play RM
Rather push Hendrick out wide than Defour: the latter can dictate play better from the centre, and Hendrick can do a better job on the right (as he did with the ROI)

It could be an age thing but didn't we play Barnes wide right alongside our only two fit midfielders Arfield and Jones for a while after Marneys injury. If memory is correct Ash did ok out wide as a temp measure? Just another option perhaps.

Not in a million years would be my reply (without scrolling through the others). He`s having a shocker injury-wise since the World Cup.Newcastleclaret93 wrote:Given that it looks like Gudmundsson has a slight knock.
Will Dyche push defour to RM until either Gudmundsson or Brady are playing again.
What options DO we have!!?? Is that why Dyche played McNeil there against Barnsley?
It`s a tricky one as we need to be keeping a very close eye on Sessignon. My bet would be that he will put Hendrick `wide right` in a team something like...
Heaton
Bardsley Tarkowski Mee Taylor
Hendrick Cork (would rather have Defour) Westwood McNeil
Wood Barnes

Re: Defour to play RM
He was always likely to get `hit` just with the move/angle he used to do the turn. It was aggressive but Gudmundsson almost turned back into him which made it worse.beddie wrote:JBG looked to get a shocking tackle (assault) on him last week that went un punished.

Re: Defour to play RM
I’d be very surprised to see Defour in the 11 again this season, even if fully fit.
He certainly wouldn’t make my selection even with 3 in the middle and he would make nobodies selection in a 442 which I imagine we will retain now (and should do).

When you put it like that it would appear we do have plenty of wide cover. But as you also say Brady hasn't helped things.Lancasterclaret wrote:Have to say having Brady, Lennon, JBG and McNeil to play two positions, plus Defour and Hendrick who can play there does not sound like we haven't go the position covered if we are being honest.
Completely forgot about Brady, but yeah that daft sending off is looking a bit worse now.

Re: Defour to play RM
I hope hope I'm not speaking too soon as they say but Fulham have been sh!te pretty much since they beat us. If we can't beat them at the moment at home then we will have a very long hard rest of the season.MACCA wrote:SD hand might be forced into a 352 type formation.
Its a big game, where we cannot afford to get beat, can we really heap more pressure on McNeil to preform again and another to play out of position?
IF we are down to the bare bones, a point might be a good result.
Fulham will ( or should) be bang up for this and targeting 3 points.

He's played wide left a reasonable number of times.vinrogue wrote:It could be an age thing but didn't we play Barnes wide right alongside our only two fit midfielders Arfield and Jones for a while after Marneys injury. Re: Defour to play RM
But not on the right to my knowledge. Trouble with which, playing him on the left would entail moving McNeil to the right, which as we've seen is not his most comfortable role.aggi wrote:He's played wide left a reasonable number of times.
It is asking a lot of an 19 year old to be your main source of creativity in midfield in a Premier League match, whilst playing out of position. Which is why the option of him on the left and Hendrick on the right, with Westwood detailed to get outside him when possible to offer a crossing option and supported by either Bardsley or Lowton from full back, represents a much better option.
