Think the building in the forefront to the left is the old Thwaites building

Red Lion on the left, Burtons on the right, formerly the Bull where Burnley FC started. Savoy Cinema just past the Red Lion but other than that there isn't much changed today.

Couldn’t tell with the L and R cut off the bottom of the picture.

Bloody hell lads. Roger Frost has this scene in the Burnley Express every other Tuesday!
Is that the Hasty Tasty half way up on the left? Best chipy ever when it first opened.

Looks so much nicer, neater and more tidy but that's a UK thing going off all the old images and video I watch of England in the past.
I watched a few videos of Nelson in the past on YT last week and could not believe how nice the town used to be!

It's not the town that's nice, it's the people in the townBigChaCha wrote:Looks so much nicer, neater and more tidy but that's a UK thing going off all the old images and video I watch of England in the past.

Second building on left used to be Martins Bank on the corne rof Manny Rd and Red Lion St I think Oddies was next door. I used to work on the small back st running parallel to Manchester Road called Dugdale St. The old LET office and stop press printing /distribution was on there as well. Burnley Express office and print works just off Manny rd on right ( past Burtons). Dont know if it is still there.

They say every picture tells a story. Well this picture tells plenty and a lot of them are BFC related.
As CT says the Burtons building on the right was originally the Bull Hotel where Burnley Football Club was born way back in 1882.
The Savoy cinema on the left was also a restaurant where BFC used to hold their Annual General Meetings. It was at the one in 1936 where the then Chairman Mr. Hopkinson told shareholders we had agreed to buy a certain Tommy Lawton who as well as playing for us went on to become one of England's greatest centre-forwards. Incredibly a signed document from this meeting was posted on this messageboard by SpadesClaret whose Auntie was apparently a waitress at the event. Be great to see that on here again.
Obviously further up Manchester Road is the Town Hall and the balcony there holds some serious history for our Club. From Tommy Boyle holding the FA Cup in 1914, to Jimmy Adamson with the League Championship trophy in 1960 to Sean Dyche holding the Championship trophy very recently.
Plenty of nostalgia and great memories.

FCBurnley, looking at that picture, it taken before you went to work with your Dad and Les Tat, who I still see now and again. The photo I would guesss was taken around 1952.

Same view (more or less) today (ish - 2017). It threw me a touch because of the building next to the Red Lion. I've never seen that in real life, only the horrible 'Select' building (was it nat west once?), but I worked at Endsleigh insurance as a kid, which might not even be on that picture as that was also an awful building, so it must have been built on the site of something else.
