McNeil...What A Prospect
Some brilliant play today, excellent down that left.
And just 19.
Keep it up, lad.

Excelent first half. Tired again but is a quality prospect. Hard to believe he barely featured for so long after an impressive debut.

Re: McNeil...What A Prospect
Fabulous talent, our most potent threat and the most exciting prospect in years - but is going to need a break of a few games soon - for his own good - the physicality of playing full games is a little too much at the moment and adrenalin will only take you so far.

I can only imagine that he wasn’t subbed due to the lack of options on the bench. Very little from him in the second half

Miserable sod!
Re: McNeil...What A Prospect
Fair comment though.
He was fantastic in the first half though. As said, a great prospect.

Wonder how much we’ll see if McNeil once Lennon is back
McNeil has created more in his few games than Lennon has done since he’s been here but suspect Lennon will get the shirt back

Defour on, McNeil off in the last 30 minutes would have been my choice.

Re: McNeil...What A Prospect
Great prospect and very good in the early parts of games. Just really a stamina issue as with lots of young players.
Re: McNeil...What A Prospect
I like the idea of Defour on to see games out. It seems outlandish given he’s not a hard runner, but his decision making and composure makes him ideal for retaining possession.RalphCoatesComb wrote:Defour on, McNeil off in the last 30 minutes would have been my choice.

I would be amazed if Lennon even got back near the starting eleven, with Iceland, Brady and McNeil in front of him. Look at our results since Lennon hasn't played.
Re: McNeil...What A Prospect
I think we need another wide man too on loan. Lennon just doesn’t affect the game enough to be considered for a start.Vino blanco wrote:I would be amazed if Lennon even got back near the starting eleven, with Iceland, Brady and McNeil in front of him. Look at our results since Lennon hasn't played.

Great performance from the lad again, but was clearly knackered in the last 30.
Speaks to how thin we are in midfield, there was no one to come on for him.

He has the pass but not the legs, already we were lumping it up top only to see it come straight back at us in the last 30 or so.SGr wrote:I like the idea of Defour on to see games out. I think it spoke to Dyches opinion that even a tired McNeil was a better option/threat than a fresh Defour.

Re: McNeil...What A Prospect
McNeil ruined Fulham’s right hand side in the first half. It was brilliant to watch. His first thought was always to beat his man, and then the deliveries were spot on too. As mentioned above his stamina will come with time. And I agree that if the forwards could have held the ball up better he may have affected the game a tad more in the second half rather than tracking back all half.
This lad excites me as a prospect for Burnley, and he doesn’t look out of place in this league.
For me Lennon should be nowhere near the side in lace of this lad. He brings us so much more. Lennon as an impact sub for me.

Re: McNeil...What A Prospect
Great first half, struggled a bit 2nd
But I do think Fulham changed their formation to completely nullify our two attacking wingers who both had great first halves.
He's a prospect all right

Re: McNeil...What A Prospect
Hope to Christ he doesn’t have that forward thinking mentality beaten out of him.
The “framework” is all well and good and it has served us well, but when we have a prospect like this, someone who offers a defensive option purely by his will to beat players and make runs that provide options that no one else does, surely we CANT ruin him can we?

As some of us have noticed, he is a bit like Leighton James. He runs at/through players and somehow manage to keep the ball at his feet. Pure skill!

Re: McNeil...What A Prospect
Ridiculous to say loan him out. He’s by far our best attacking player at the moment . When he drives with the ball he carries the whole team forward , rather than the lumped ball coming straight back at us with our team much much deeper.ClaretAndJew wrote:Get him on a 5 year deal get him loaned out for a year next season. He has an excellent left foot cross but i couldn't help but notice that he only uses that for crosses. Maybe i missed his right-foot crosses though.

Re: McNeil...What A Prospect
He's clearly talented enough but with the pace of the league he needs experience playing higher level football. Championship for a year playing Saturday Tuesday will seriously improve him.
I imagine Lennon will slot back in, rightly or wrongly, because he has more PL experience.

Re: McNeil...What A Prospect
Another good performance from him today. Ran their full back ragged.
Re: McNeil...What A Prospect
Maybe that is his opinion. But my point is with better ball retention and composure, there would be less launching it right up and seeing it straight back at us.CombatClaret wrote:He has the pass but not the legs, already we were lumping it up top only to see it come straight back at us in the last 30 or so.

I sort of agree with him, a full championship season at a top 6 club will do him the world of good in terms of development, but I’d wait until the end of the season as if he keeps developing and bulks up he may well play every week here

It's not a criticism he's god quality he just needs more experience.
Re: McNeil...What A Prospect
He is a top player. I don’t believe this rubbish spouted by Sean (+ other managers) that we have to be careful with these youngsters. If they are good enough they can play.
Why on earth would you loan him out when he has been the difference + helped us turn our season around since Sean was forced into playing him as a result of Lennon’s injury. An earlier comment on here mentioned McNeil being one footed. Correct. But with that cracking left foot + desire to get forward, he has delivered significantly more goal scoring chances already to Barnes, Wood & Co than the appalling Lennon did for the far too many games he played. Lennon should be nowhere near the starting 11 when he is back fit. The shirt is McNeil’s.
