Tired after 60 minutes.
Answer? Send him away on loan.

Re: McNeil...What A Prospect
He's a sensational prospect. There are very few players who have the ability to drift past players like he does, and he has that hallmark of class - always appearing to have time on the ball. His passing is canny and precise, and his crossing is a huge weapon.
He's in a honeymoon period at the minute, and teams will soon work out that his right foot isn't for much more than standing on, but he's young enough to have time to work on improving that so he's got at least the threat of going either way. And whilst he showed for the second goal today that he can tackle, it's definitely an area for him to improve.
But I imagine talks have started about tying him down to a lucrative, long term contract, because at this rate he's not going to stay under the radar for long. He is understandably visibly tiring in the second half of games, and it wouldn't be a huge surprise to see him used from the bench next week if Gudmundson is fit, in a game when we can expect to spend a lot of time defending, but that's all part of his development.

A joy to watch. Penetrative dribbling and crossing.
Not seen for a long time.
Getting his match fitness too.
A shoe in for England U21 on that performance.

I just hope the lad is allowed to carry on playing his natural game and we don't try to over-coach or over complicate things for him. We all know how hard Dyche expects his wingers to work.

Re: McNeil...What A Prospect
It's hard work and the defensive aspect of the game that will take him right to the very top. There are tons of players who have natural ability - there are 19 years olds who have done more than McNeil who end up in League Two. If he can add the extra layers - work on his weaknesses, like making his right foot at least serviceable, add an understanding of the defensive side of the game and put on a bit more muscle - then he'll avoid those pitfalls and the world is his oyster.jrgbfc wrote:I just hope the lad is allowed to carry on playing his natural game and we don't try to over-coach or over complicate things for him. Might not harm his development that our assistant manager was a player from a very similar mould in his playing days.

Re: McNeil...What A Prospect
His offensive and attacking play is a superb outlet for our embattered defence and overrun midfield. Doesn’t need to develop really to be the best we have to offer.
Already the best of our offensive intent and people want to hand him over to Yeovil because he tires after an hour?
Who needs Fawlty towers with comedy like this?
Aguero to Barnsley?
Salah to Stanley?
Ok. So he’s not either of those two, but to us, he’s our best option out wide if we have attacking intent. In fact, his attacking intent is a great option to relieve pressure as opposed to the usual lump up to the corner flag from Tarks.
Out on loan? Only an idiot would consider this.

We’ve become so distanced from youth at Burnley so that anyone under 24 must be sent out on loan (endlessly). I’m hoping McNeil convinces Dyche to be less wary of youth.

Always looks like he's just about to lose the ball yet somehow doesn't. He manages to find space in congested parts of the pitch and goes close to collect the ball. Great to watch a young lad trying to make things happen.
Needs to work on the finess side though. I'd have him running up and down and stuff between games

This young lad has the ability to get you on the edge of your seat. At present he looks the best prospect I have seen in a Claret shirt since Trevor Steven. I can't pay him any higher accolade.

Aidy Boothroyd was sat next to Gareth so he should be expecting an U21s shout next match up. Did more than enough to impress. His stamina will come with training with our guys, not on loan.

Re: McNeil...What A Prospect
He did tire again, but he gets no complaints from me. He looks more confident, and more accomplished every game.
Westwood and Hendrick were the other stand outs.
I'd hoped Tarks passing would rub off on Mee, but instead it looks like he's learning from Ben

Loved how Tarks digged him playfully in the ribs before kick off. Shows how together the team is. Also with James Dunne in and around the squad next season one would think then things really are looking up

And I’m pretty sure if Dyche had the option and cover he would have chosen to give him a season in the championship. He’s only just gone 19 and started training with the first team week in week out. I’m delighted in his progress and it’s not criticism, like you say it’s just an opinion.ClaretAndJew wrote:Cheer up mate its only a different opinion.

Thought nobody else had noticed. Getting bigged up for that block but his passing was atrocious. This keeping his head down while he launches it really pees me off. He’s not a bloody golfer. BTW did you notice he got caught trying to beat a man, whilst he was our last man AGAIN? Got away with a FK but he’s gonna cost us.

He's like a breath of fresh air. Its bloody good to see a winger trying to turn the fullbacks inside out. He reminds me of Giggs when he was that age. Maybe not as quick or skilful but his build and willingness to run at players.

Re: McNeil...What A Prospect
Not 100% convinced it only being about him being totally knackered 2nd half, as to the fact we completely changed our style of play and sat very deep, lessening his impact significantly and he struggled a little bit defensively, but that is a very slight negative considering what he offers going forward.
Some of his runs down the left were brilliant, especially the one pictured above where he left the defender on his backside and the one where he went past two Fulham players and whipped the ball in. His crossing is fantastic and the very fact he has the confidence to make those runs at players is refreshing to see.
Exciting prospect for us.

I love him. He absolutely terrified Cyrus Christie yesterday who couldn't get anywhere near him first half.
If he's got the determination to succeed and the willingness to work on his weaknesses, he'll have a long top level career.

Re: McNeil...What A Prospect
Brilliant prospect - so exciting to see a young winger in a burnley shirt taking on and beating players and putting in great crosses....there’s few finer sites in football.
He did tire in second half but so did a lot of our players - the conditions were terrible, and we did not have a bench which in this game allowed us to refresh the team as much as Fulham could.
Fulham really targeted his and Taylor’s side in the second half but that was more because they had a man spare in midfield and made good use of that switching the play from their left to right.
His first half display was great and he still managed to find the energy to run half the length of the pitch in the last 10 minutes which Barnes gave back to them with a very casual flick which nearly led to the equaliser

Brady will have to up his game now if he wants to get back in the side, as it should be.
Re: McNeil...What A Prospect
Only an idiot would suggest loaning our brightest prospect out to get experience....
Surely McNeill is gaining that experience by playing now in the Premier League learning his trade alongside team mates who he plays/trains with week in week out.
This lad is the best prospect seen coming through the ranks in a few years. To suggest loaning him out smacks of idiocy.

Thought MOD would have highlighted him skinning the full back but they didn't. Did show a few of his crosses though.Fine first half performance - a little tired later on. Looks to have a good attitude as well as his ability.
Re: McNeil...What A Prospect
First half he was a joy to watch, not just his crosses but the little clever passes as well. At the moment he has the shirt and I just hope Dyche doesn’t replace him immediately with Brady.
As for no “right foot” Mahrez has done ok without “one”.

As I said a couple of weeks ago, the last home grown player with that style and effortless grace to glide past opponents and ultimately deliver in the final 3rd was Trevor Steven.

Re: McNeil...What A Prospect
Extracts from the Times report:-
Old habits die hard for Dwight McNeil, the most exciting prospect to have emerged from Burnley’s academy in more than a decade.
When the likes of Tom Heaton, James Tarkowski and Chris Wood arrive at Burnley’s Barnfield training complex this morning, they will find McNeil fully fed and ready for action.
Despite being involved in the first-team squad for most of the season, McNeil still considers himself to be a member of the club’s youth set-up.
“I still go in with the under-23s in the morning to have my poached egg on toast for breakfast,” McNeil, 19, said. “The first team have the same breakfast but they are half an hour after us, so I get in early.
“The under-23s were my team at the start of the season. I knock about with them all the time after training so I’m mixing between the two groups really.”
Having such a grounded young professional on their books is good news for Burnley, who have not seen one of their own graduate from the club’s academy and go on to become a first-team regular since Jay Rodriguez, the striker, did so in 2007.
One of the reasons why McNeil likes to keep his feet on the ground is because he knows what rejection feels like having been released by his boyhood club Manchester United aged 14. “It was devastating, but I just wanted to get back on my feet,” McNeil, who signed for Burnley’s academy a year later, said.
A good attitude is not the only attribute needed to become a top-flight footballer, of course. Talent is also required and, luckily for Burnley, McNeil has that in abundance.
In front of the England manager, Gareth Southgate, and the England Under-21 manager, Aidy Boothroyd, McNeil brought the Burnley fans to the edge of their seats on several occasions at Turf Moor on Saturday. An under-21 call-up beckons. “That is also one of the big steps that I want to achieve,” McNeil said.
Fulham were unlucky in some respects. Both goals they conceded were own goals, but they looked incredibly disjointed in the first half despite Andre Schürrle’s stunning volley. “We are deep, deep, deep in trouble,” said Schürrle, 28.
I only added the last para to demonstrate that the Times report was all about McNeil and nothing else.
The best player to come thru the youth system since Trevor Steven
