Difficult day for the voters. So good first half, so average second.

Re: Burnley v Fulham - Player Ratings
Heaton 7 need to see the goal again.
Bardsley 6
Tarks 7 caught a couple of times
Mee 7
Taylor 7 not much help at times
McNeil 7 great 30 minutes, tired 2nd half
Westwood 8 mom
Cork 6
Hendrick 7 did well playing out of position
Barnes 6
Wood 6
Result far more important than any performance, and in difficult conditions.
Horrendous weather, and a very difficult and nervous watch in 2nd half.

Re: Burnley v Fulham - Player Ratings
Heaton - 8 beaten by a fantastic strike and was a safe pair of hands in the worst conditions for keepers
Bardsley - 6 pocketed Sessegnon who was junk
Tarkowski- 8 incredible clearance on the line and stood up well to Mitovic who soon learned to target New
Mee - 7 lost Schurrle for their goal but very good otherwise
Taylor - 7 another fine performance
Cork - 7
Westwood - 7
Hendrick - 8 excellent in an unfamiliar role, he found some really good positions, carried the ball well and kept things near and tidy. 2 assists as well.
McNeil - 6 very good first half, much less so second. His crossing is a top weapon.
Barnes - 6
Wood - 5 as bad as he's been good in the last few games
Awful conditions but they helped make a cracking first half where we battered a poor Fulham side without getting anything of our own on target. Second half was the opposite and we invited Fulham on to us far too much and some last ditch defending has saved us.
Fair play to Fulham for doing our work for us, very charitable of them.

Re: Burnley v Fulham - Player Ratings
Heaton 7 - did whats needed
Bardsley 6 - ok, not as good going forward as usual
Tarks 7- some v good blocks
Mee 8 - my MOM, really stuck in today
Taylor 7 - did well
McNeil 7 - first half great, 2nd not so much
Westwood 8 - all over
Cork 7 - did well
Hendrick 7 - as above
Barnes 5
Wood 5 - both strikers looked off it. Wood seemed a bit lazy today
Don't know whether it was intentional tactics today to sit back 2nd half but felt we should have pushed them more for a 3rd before doing so

Still lacking as their defense was the worst i have seen for a while but after 2 og's not one shot on target but never really troubled them apart from a 15 min spell.
It was backs to the wall stuff second half and was woeful from our point of view apart from the defending which was great and had to be.
Need a couple of midfielders in before the next game.

Barnes 5 a few little bits and pockets of good stuff but Some fairly poor passing and reactionary running, also no goal threat. Like wood needed to do more to hell it stick, though weather played a part
Wood 6 won lots of flicks work hard some good hold up followed by some poor stuff and needed to do more to help the ball stick, close to scoring.
The whole side put a shift in throughout horrendous conditions and back to being more Burnley like. But do think a few could have done a little more with the ball. Perhaps I’ve been harsh but going on instinct.

First half great, 2nd half not so great and certainly not enough attacking threat but we did more than enough to win it overall.

its very hard to win 3 games on the trot in the premier league and its given us a real fighting chance. McNeil is a hell of a prospect btw

Heaton 7 tidy and safe hands
Bardsley 7 inspired 1st half
Taylor 6 ok but mainly empty wings to supply
Tarky 7rock solid
Mee 6 Par
Hendrick 7great 1st half actually ran at them
Westwood 8 very busy reminds me of Jonah
McNeil 7cracking 1st half faded badly surprise not subbed
Cork 6 steady
Barnes 6 not his best but little to feed on
Wood 6 starved of decent chances
Got the points ( just about ) against an out of form low confidence mish mash of a side not lacking in talent though .We fought back bravely but were utterly bereft of any creativity and desperately missed Brady and Guddy though I get while Defour was left out today , horrendous conditions

Re: Burnley v Fulham - Player Ratings
Odd game, thought we’d see more goals. Fulham sorted themselves out a bit a half time and we are a bit too happy to fall into the ‘what we have we hold’ mentality. They had their chances but we seem more confident defending our box than we were in the Joe Hart era, refusal to play substitutes also meant we were flagging badly by the end but all’s well that ends well.

Re: Burnley v Fulham - Player Ratings
Firstly I'd like to congratulate both sets of players on a very entertaining match is atrocious conditions. I'd also like to congratulate Schurrie on possibly one of the best goals I've seen on the Turf in many a year. Superb control and strike.
Heaton 7 Never had a chance with their goal but very steady after that.
Bardsley 7 Knows his limitations and sticks to his job.
Tarks 8* Wonderful stop on the goal line. Very solid throughout.
Mee 7 Good game but he lost his man once in the 1st half and they nearly had a 2nd from the free header.
Taylor 7 Links well with Mc Neil. We look good when those pair are going forward.
McNeil 7 Looks a very good player. Most of our threats seem to come when he is on the ball. Visibly tired 2nd half when SD should have hooked him for fresh legs.
Westwood 8 Good game. Worked very hard.
Cork 6 Almost disappeared 2nd half when our midfield was overrun.
Hendrick 7 Excellent 1st half. Faded 2nd.
Barnes 6 Hurt himself with tackle on Bryan 1st half. Was carrying a knock and should have been subbed after 60 mins for Vokes.
Wood 6 Things didn't really work for him today. Ran the channels well but largely ineffective.
SD 6 I sometimes think that I am watching a different game to him because his use of subs is baffling?? Lots of tired legs and only used one sub. I rest my case.

And replaced him with who?CaptJohn wrote:McNeil 7 Looks a very good player. Most of our threats seem to come when he is on the ball. Visibly tired 2nd half when SD should have hooked him for fresh legs.
No options of wide players to freshen it up. And I'm not a fan of putting centre forwards or full backs out wide.

Strange one today. We were fantastic for pretty much all of the first half (bar the obvious) and then we’re barely in the game in the second. I’d have to say a draw would have been fair but I’m very happy with the win!

Re: Burnley v Fulham - Player Ratings
Well, I suppose the most economical way to win a football match is to get the opposition to do the hardest bit for you.
Heaton - 7 - Caught out in no-mans land by the quality of Schurle's first touch for their goal, but otherwise very solid on abysmal day for goalkeeping.
Bardsley - 6 - Looked to be playing at about 70% fit and managing his way through the game - credit to him for doing so with a minimum of fuss. Nearly punished for dwelling on the ball unnecessarily in the first half, but other than that he was defensively solid, even if he understandably looked to be reserving himself on some occasions when he had the opportunity to bomb forwards.
Taylor - 6 - A couple of unconvincing moments, including for their goal when once again he and Mee looked to have some sorting out to do, but generally stuck to the task gamely, especially in the second half when McNeil left him exposed a few times.
Tarkowski - 9 - One dodgy moment when Atkinson bailed him out with a free kick in the second half, but otherwise hugely impressive in tough conditions, and won his duel with Mitrovic hands down.
Mee - 8 - Looked a bit suspect for the opening goal, like Taylor - but the gusting wind may well have played a role in that, and otherwise he was pretty much flawless.
Westwood - 8 - Bundles of energy, used the ball efficiently as usual and showed his reading of the game on countless occasions. If we're being hyper-critical, like many of our players he could have use the ball better after half time, but in fairness he still tried to get on it and play whenever he could.
Cork - 7 - Solid and dependable throughout, but again might have used the ball much better in the second half.
Hendrick - 8 - I'm a fan, and I think he showed he's got all the tools to be a really effective option for us tucking in off the flank. His first half performance was truly outstanding, and in the second half he was diligent defensively, even if he did get caught out a couple of times.
McNeil - 7 - He's probably getting the benefit of the doubt because he's so young, because in truth there aren't too many players who could be as anonymous as he was in the second half, yet still get the sort of marks we're all giving him. But he had a hand in both goals - the initial cross from the equaliser, and a tackle and composed pass out of defence started the move for the second - and for a good half hour in the first half he showed exactly why we're so excited about him by terrorising Christie and delivering a string of fine crosses. But he was a bit of a passenger when we had to bunker down and defend in the second half.
Barnes - 6 - Showed some nice touches, including in the build up to the second goal, but he was surprisingly ineffective in the second half.
Wood - 6 - Unlucky not to keep his scoring record going with his towering first half header against the post, but we needed more from him to stretch Fulham's 3 centre backs in the second half.
Truth be told, we've played much better this season, created more chances, and lost - Newcastle being on example - and we were probably a shade fortunate to get the 3 points today. But even if both goals were fortuitous, the response to going a goal down to a bit of a worldy was really positive and we deserved to lead at the break on the balance of play. The second half was scrappy from our perspective and we needed the front two to engineer more opportunity to get up the pitch, and the rest of the team to show a bit more composure in possession, but almost as heartening as the response to going behind was the resilience and sheer determination to guts it out that we showed in the second half when we didn't have our A game. The mentality is what we've lacked at times this season and it was back in spades today.
We are still conceding too many crossing opportunities, and we've developed a bad habit of starting halves slowly than needs addressing, but things are looking rosier than we dared hope after the Everton game.

Re: Burnley v Fulham - Player Ratings
Heaton 8- no chance with goal, collected crosses and one fine save.
Bardsley 6- a couple of errors (which he put his hand up to) and not as solid as of late.
Taylor 6- doesn't stop crosses and doesn't look comfortable under pressure.
Mee 7- refused to be bullied by Mitrovic barging.
Tarkowski 7- Ball playing a little off but what a goal line clearance which was match winning.
Westwood 7- Apart from one instance were he was asleep and allowed easy cross played very well. Driving force even when midfield dropped to deep.
Cork 6- good first half but was at fault for allowing Fulham to much dominance in second half.
McNeil 8- breathe of fresh air, a threat attacking and defensively. He was our best wide man and full back.
Hendrick 7- apart from the woeful attempt at goal in first half played really well and was our best player in first half. Struggled little in second half but we didn't have ball then.
Wood 5- surprised he lasted as long as he did. No outlet and shied away from a lot although he had one header getting across keeper and hitting post.
Barnes 6- worked manfully again despite seeming to play up front on his own for most parts.

Re: Burnley v Fulham - Player Ratings
Proverbial game of two halves. First, we played well after a difficult start. Second half we got lucky, really lucky IMO.However the conditions were appalling and full credit must go to all 22 players.
Heaton 7-His presence makes a massive difference.
Bardsley 7-Another who has made a big difference but he nearly let slip in the first half.
Tarkowski 9*-Southgate must have been impressed, only hope no Liverpool spies were there.
Mee 8-Thought he had a solid game. The CD partnership is flourishing again.
Taylor 8-Really impressive again.
Hendrick 7-Good first half and he was really industrious.
Westwood 8-He's been fantastic over the last few games.
Cork 7-Thought he was solid but drifted at times.
McNeil 7-A Star is Born.
Barnes 6-Disappointed in both him and Wood today. Dont think they were on same wavelength but conditions were poor.
Wood 6-Ditto Barnes

Heaton 7
Bardsley 8
Tarkowski 7 (-1 for playing Schurrle onside for their goal)
Mee 8
Taylor 7
McNeil 7 (-1 for a totally anonymous second half but brilliant in the first)
Westwood 8
Cork 7
Hendrick 9 (his forceful drives forward and shots turned the game)
Barnes 7
Wood 6
Resilient after an unlucky start, rode our luck with our terrible defending of crosses, but found a way to win. Much better signs though not the best opposition recently.
I thought that Jean Michael Sari was very lively for them (though heaven knows how he didn’t get booked). However, most of his passes were backwards and he didn’t complete a single pass or cross into our box. I’m glad we didn’t spend £30m on a player without much end product?

Re: Burnley v Fulham - Player Ratings
Heaton 8 (well done on a rubbish day to be a keeper)
Bardsley 7
Tarks 8 (amazing goal line clearance)
Mee 7
Taylor 8 (improving all the time, but reacts to the ball out wide to his man rather than getting tight up his bottom before it's played!)
Cork 7
Westwood 8* (mom)
Hendrick 8 (had a superb first half, but didn't seem to quite match it in the second half sadly)
McNeil 8 (Absolutely superb first half and nailed on MOM at half time, but flitted in and out second half and I was surprised we didn't change him, even with no proper wingers available)
Barnes 6 (I really am a fan, but not his best day)
Wood 5 (woeful! Like playing with 10 men when he isn't scoring. Slow, regularly offside and mostly can't hold the ball up and when he finally does he rarely finds a team mate with his pass)
I said before the match that my perception was Fulham were very good going forward and very, very suspect at the back. That assessment proved spot on and if only we'd kept up and at at 'em in the second half I believe we'd have won far more comfortably. As it was they scored a great goal (let's be fair, everyone but Schurle thought it was an over hit pass. I certainly did) and because we allowed them to play mostly in our half after half time they always looked capable of scoring. We needed to be playing in their half, but with Wood incapable of holding up a balloon at a kids birthday party and even less sure of what colour our shirts are as he kept giving the ball away, we were forever inviting them onto us and playing to their strengths. (TBF to Wood, Barnes wasn't great either) BUT, us being us we SOMEHOW got the 3 points! That's what we do and I really can't be surprised because I've seen it so many times before. A draw would definitely have been fair and I have thought that about 50 times under SD in the PL, but so often we have literally stolen the 3 points and how bloody good are we at doing that!!!???
And just to add that the very friendly and knowledgeable Fulham die hard I was chatting to in The Boot after the game felt exactly the same. They attack well, can't defend (Ream??? Never has been and never will be a PL defender) and they'e going down because we have something money alone can't buy. A togetherness and a spirit which eeks out results like today. Oh and a chap called SD who knows that real success is built from the back! UTC!!!

Re: Burnley v Fulham - Player Ratings
I haven't done one of these for a wee while but here goes:
Heaton - 7 - One very good save and he definitely breeds confidence to the players in front of him
Bardsley - 7 - Thought he was steady and his normal, committed self. Not sure if he was carrying a knock though?!
Tarks - 8 - thought he had a great game, strong and (mainly) in control. The goal line clearance was fantastic
Mee - 8 - handled the dirty Mitrovic well and dug in deep during the second half
Taylor - 7 - I do like Charlie. I feel he is a good defender who worries a little about going forward so as not to expose himself. Pretty solid today
Hendrick - 9 - fantastic game today. Drove forward well and proved he is very good on the ball again. Joint MOM for me
Westwood - 9 - brilliant energy from AW today and has that little bite in him too. Pressured Fulham well and played it simple when he could. Joint MOM
Cork - 8 - Getting back to the Cork we raved about last year. Always plays better when his fellow CM is on the game.
McNeil - 7 (8 1st half, 6 2nd) - What a break in to the side this young chap has made. The first half his direct runs at Fulham caused them all sorts of problems. Tired in the 2nd but he's one to watch and one we should look after as he develops
Barnes - 7 - Some of his touches were fantastic in difficult conditions. I really do think his "destroyer" image hides the fact he's a good footballer
Wood - 6 - Didn't just seem to work for him today. Frustrated himself and, probably, rightly substituted
Another fantastic 3 points. Slow start followed by a great 30 minutes of playing some neat football. The "luck" of own goals only happens if you are productive in the opposition area and that's what we did first half. Second half was the dig in type of performance. You have to realise Fulham were bound to throw everything at us and we coped pretty well on the whole. Fulham also prove chucking a load of money at a team doesn't always pay off. They will go down even with Ranieri in charge.
Last shout out to Hart who was the first player to get out and congratulate Heaton at the FT whistle. Great to see.
Enjoying a beer this evening knowing my team are well and truly up for the fight, It's going to be tough but the performances in the last 7 or 8 games shows we are getting there (I'm blocking the Everton game out FOREVER!). Love it coming on here not having to read the "SD out" brigade too
Enjoy your weekend fellow Clarets!
