It's easy to be hard on Barnes and Wood but conditions were tough and Fulham's defence was excellent, especially in the air (they all were - springing up high like Zebedee).
7 apiece.

You could add a point to each for the first half performance , and take a point off each for the second.

At half time I thought we would win 3 or 4-1 as we were so dominant. However Fulham changed their shape to 3-5-2 and we struggled to cope. Mainly with having 2 inexperienced wide men on the pitch. Massive 3 points though

Heaton 8 two vital saves and clean handling in very difficult conditions

Bardsley 8 glad to see him back
Tarkowski 8
Mee 7
Taylor 6 ropey at times

McNeil 8 tired of course but wings in so many crosses
Westwood 8
Cork 6
Hendrick 9 - mom- out of position but seemed to thrive given more freedom

Barnes 5 and Wood 5 front two really poor today for some reason.

Considering we only have one available winger for this game who is only 19 this was a massive hurdle overcome.

Most pleasing point was that we seem more capable of winning from behind than in previous years

Heaton - 7 Efficient today and a couple of good stops.
Bardsley - 7 Part of a defence that limited the opposition to very few clear cut chances
Tarks - 8 a point extra for block on the line
Mee - 7
Taylor - 7
Hendrick - 8 upped his game a bit today and created two goals
Westwood - 7 him and Cork lost control of the middle today in the second half.
Cork - 6
McNeill - 8 some flashes of brilliance in the first half.
Barnes - 5 didn't create much today as a pair but the service in the second half was almost non existent.
Wood - 5

As a number of posters have said quite a difficult game to rate. That maybe because in the second half Fulham had 71% possession and it is probably more difficult to score players when they haven't got the ball as opposed to when they have.

Well, first half was very good indeed. Lots of players were "8" and "9" first half, lots were "5" and "6" 2nd.

Aye - but you’d find a way to criticise the team if we beat Barcelona 8-0 in the Camp Nou.

A strange game to mark. We didn't play well until after the 1st 15 minutes or so, then pretty much dominated until halftime, then second half I thought we were off the pace again for large parts. The conditions didn't help one jot either

Wasn't great second half. But dreadful conditions. You get that perspective when you're actually there. You should try it some time. The points were far more important than the performance.

Good first half, terrible second half. Poor from the manager not responding to their changes at half time which saw them dominate the ball in midfield and push us back into our own penalty area. Also, we gave their wingers far too much space so they had time to put in some really good crosses.

Good result though.

Heaton 8
Bardsley 6
Tarks 6 - does the simple stuff well but most of his Hollywood passes ended up in the crowd
Mee 8
Taylor 6
Hendrick 8*
Westwood 7
Cork 6
McNeill 7
Barnes 5
Wood 5

So did we ---just look at the result. How many goals did Fulham score whilst they were coping ---blimey, they didn't even manage an own goal, even though they passed back to their keeper more times than they went forward.

Totally agree.

Well I would if player ratings were for only certain parts of a game. If you want to mark our players on only the "awful" parts then knock yourself out. You must be a real hoot to be around if this is all you can come up with after winning our third PL game in a row?!

Just saying our midfield was totally over run all second half and could not cope but some people give them 8's

I would give out 8's and 9's if they actually did something to stop the tide and push us forward but it never happened - and do you know why because some of them are not good enough.

claretspice wrote:Well, I suppose the most economical way to win a football match is to get the opposition to do the hardest bit for you.

Heaton - 7 - Caught out in no-mans land by the quality of Schurle's first touch for their goal, but otherwise very solid on abysmal day for goalkeeping.

Bardsley - 6 - Looked to be playing at about 70% fit and managing his way through the game - credit to him for doing so with a minimum of fuss. Nearly punished for dwelling on the ball unnecessarily in the first half, but other than that he was defensively solid, even if he understandably looked to be reserving himself on some occasions when he had the opportunity to bomb forwards.

Taylor - 6 - A couple of unconvincing moments, including for their goal when once again he and Mee looked to have some sorting out to do, but generally stuck to the task gamely, especially in the second half when McNeil left him exposed a few times.

Tarkowski - 9 - One dodgy moment when Atkinson bailed him out with a free kick in the second half, but otherwise hugely impressive in tough conditions, and won his duel with Mitrovic hands down.

Mee - 8 - Looked a bit suspect for the opening goal, like Taylor - but the gusting wind may well have played a role in that, and otherwise he was pretty much flawless.

Westwood - 8 - Bundles of energy, used the ball efficiently as usual and showed his reading of the game on countless occasions. If we're being hyper-critical, like many of our players he could have use the ball better after half time, but in fairness he still tried to get on it and play whenever he could.

Cork - 7 - Solid and dependable throughout, but again might have used the ball much better in the second half.

Hendrick - 8 - I'm a fan, and I think he showed he's got all the tools to be a really effective option for us tucking in off the flank. His first half performance was truly outstanding, and in the second half he was diligent defensively, even if he did get caught out a couple of times.

McNeil - 7 - He's probably getting the benefit of the doubt because he's so young, because in truth there aren't too many players who could be as anonymous as he was in the second half, yet still get the sort of marks we're all giving him. But he had a hand in both goals - the initial cross from the equaliser, and a tackle and composed pass out of defence started the move for the second - and for a good half hour in the first half he showed exactly why we're so excited about him by terrorising Christie and delivering a string of fine crosses. But he was a bit of a passenger when we had to bunker down and defend in the second half.

Barnes - 6 - Showed some nice touches, including in the build up to the second goal, but he was surprisingly ineffective in the second half.

Wood - 6 - Unlucky not to keep his scoring record going with his towering first half header against the post, but we needed more from him to stretch Fulham's 3 centre backs in the second half.

Truth be told, we've played much better this season, created more chances, and lost - Newcastle being on example - and we were probably a shade fortunate to get the 3 points today. But even if both goals were fortuitous, the response to going a goal down to a bit of a worldy was really positive and we deserved to lead at the break on the balance of play. The second half was scrappy from our perspective and we needed the front two to engineer more opportunity to get up the pitch, and the rest of the team to show a bit more composure in possession, but almost as heartening as the response to going behind was the resilience and sheer determination to guts it out that we showed in the second half when we didn't have our A game. The mentality is what we've lacked at times this season and it was back in spades today.

We are still conceding too many crossing opportunities, and we've developed a bad habit of starting halves slowly than needs addressing, but things are looking rosier than we dared hope after the Everton game.
I come to these player rating threads just to search out your analysis. Thanks.
