Awful music, completely overblown lyrics/"sentiments"; embarrassing. . I wonder how many of the people who made that 3+ years ago are currently watching the Royals (and will be watching in 3rd tier next season)?

Prior to the Madejski takeover Reading had spent 89 of their then 96 seasons at level 3 and lower.
With no visit to the top tier.

I remember ringing the ticket office for the Wembley tickets in '09 and having to listen to that on repeat as the hold music, thankfully until now nearly 10 years later I haven't heard it since, so thanks for thatRick_Muller wrote:I know... right...

Reading is not a plastic club at all.
John Madeski made 'decent' money out of Reading, via his creation Thames Valley Trader, which grew to Auto Trader etc. He invested in the club, in tough times and put lots of energy into a deal with the council, which enabled him to sell Elm Park for housing, purchase land on the old tip at Smallmead, along the Basingstoke Road and build the new stadium, with retail and hotel nearby. One stipulation was that the club had to fund a new road to serve the area, including the ground.
It was his business acumen which led to this successful outcome, not his millions.
He then worked, over time, with Steve Coppell, to build a young team, which got to the Prem. Later, he made public his view that his odd million was not going to help, in the long term and that the club needed mega rich backers.
He sold to a Russian, who sold assets and took the money, then it went to Thais and now, I think, Chinese, who seem to be saying they will invest. Looking like that might be to get out of Div 1!
Not a plastic club and always bigger than Bury!
6000-10,000 in the old 3rd. Much bigger town now.

Reading have some of the best fans. Apart from thinking they'd made the playoffs when they hadn't. THE biggest football cockup yet was missed by Sky Sports.

Very close to where I was standing/sitting. The funniest thing I've ever seen in football. But chatted to several Reading fans afterwards and they were all sound and wished us well.

The Reading fans never seemed particularly plastic when giving us a kicking en route to Elm Park.

Re: Reading FC
The original video, it seems, was written in Thailand. Which seems likely, because it doesn't seem to have been written by someone who speaks English as a first language; no-one in England could seriously get away with "Let us sing, every man" - not inclusive; and most English people know that we haven't had any kings in this country for 67 years.
Oh, and no English person could say "the glory of Reading" with a straight face!

The Brighton and Hove Albion of Berkshire
In fact Reading put the berk in Berkshire.
Reading and Reading FC is like the ******* love child of Milton Keynes and Brighton and Hove Albion. **** made up town and **** plastic football club.
**** stadium too. If it didnt say Madejski on it you genuinely wouldnt know whether it was Reading, Leicester or a blue riverside stadium.

Re: Reading FC
Some people here being a bit harsh on Reading (but not that promotional film/song which is truly awful).
I first went there (from Burnley) back in mid 60s for a cup tie when we scraped a draw at Elm Park and it seemed like a decent lower league atmosphere there. I moved to north Hampshire just before Madejski was built & went to the old ground a few times for social events & liked the people there who were hard-core fans.
Ive been to about a dozen (Madejski) Reading v Burnley games in the past 20+ years and generally enjoyed my visits (barring the one rained off just before KO). It's true the stadium is out of town in a "soulless retail park area" but there are some decent pubs in Reading centre and easy travel by special bus up to the stadium.
There are quite a lot of younger/newer fans following Reading but it's a town/area that's grown a lot in the past 30 years & in a region with quite a lot of population movement - so wont have the big % of long-standing fans as Burnley.
The future is looking a bit dicey though with relegation distinctly possible + losing the extra revenue from London Irish RU Club's residency (they move to Brentford's new ground in 2020).

The Waitrose sponsorship says it all. They are basically a rugby club.

Growing up in Reading, that was the first time I was able to see Burnley play. 1965 from memory. Draw? 1-1
I stood with the Burnley fans behind the goal and wore my Burnley scarf!
