No signings again
Sean has started paving the way for another let down re signings. Its apparently according to reported comments that we wont be signing anyone as we have failed in the targets we identified.
This is extremely disappointing .Being an optimist I thought employing a Director of Football was supposed to facilitate signings.
Perhaps we should have save Riggs wages as it the same old story re incoming players

Mike Rigg:
"The transfer window is ridiculous. The only people that really enjoy it is the media because there's a great story going on. I can't just come in and change things overnight.
"We've got good systems in place here - I can't make significantly huge differences but I will contribute and support as best I can towards the window.
"It's not a case of walking through the door and everything being sorted. If we can try and do some good business in January, then we will do.
"January is an impossible window because nobody wants to sell and if they do sell it's ridiculous money.
"January is difficult for every club so there are no promises from any perspective in January because it's so tough. I think the real difference will be the longer term - we've got to get focused on the summer."
Sean Dyche:
"Everyone knows January is a really really tough window. To make it clear we're not looking for Mike to come in and miraculously hand over seven players. We're looking for a longer reward than that, a bigger picture process to help add to what we do on the recruitment side.
"January is forever problematic for players so we'll just have to wait and see.

So Mike Rigg has been in the building a couple of months, how exactly is he earning a wage ?

It’s a lot cheaper for Champagne Mike Garlick to employ a Director of Football than it is to employ a couple of extra players.

If you have such a dismal Summer window it means the recruitment side of things needs to pull its finger out in the January window. Next Summer players will cost even more. I suppose the club can then say it’s moved beyond what we expected and nothing happens til the end of that window and it takes years to set up an overseas network. Operation dampen expectations well underway.

The January window is usually a joke. Signings are made either in desperation or to appease the mob. If we can sign a player at the right price and for the long term then great. If all that is available are overpriced cast offs then I will be happy if we sign nowt !

No, clearly we don’t have a good system in place here. We brought you in to make a significant difference, so please, don’t start regurgitating all the expectations-lowering crap we’ve been listening to for the last few years.

Re: No signings again
Its alright saying January is a bad window to do business in, but the fact is we had an awful summer window and january is actually a good opportunity in our case to correct that.
Weve probably saved 5m in wages buy not signing the three players we needed in summer. So overpriced players doesnt wash.
And just because others arent buying doesnt mean we shouldnt be going out and doing.
And dont blame the proces in the prem or championship. There are literally hundreds of professional leagues. Most of them would walk to england to play in the prem!

Re: No signings again
We’ve backed ourselves into a corner a little bit with our poor business in the summer, but on flip side, we’ve unearthed a gem in Dwight McNeil.
Would I like us to do business in January? Sure. But likewise, I don’t want us getting our pants pulled down for a player who is potentially no better than what we have.
It is fine margins, and I’m pretty content if we end up leaving things as they are.

Can’t go without making at least one signing this window. Form has been revived so that takes away the “plan for the championship” nonsense. Even more reason to add. Others will.

Re: No signings again
Maybe, but if we’d strengthened the squad in the summer when we were in a much stronger position, we might never have even uttered the word “relegation” this season. That’s where the frustration comes from, and to hear the same things being said by the guy who’s been brought in presumably to change the thinking is a bit depressing.DAVETHEVICAR wrote:If we don’t get anyone in ,in January who can strengthen the team I will be happy to wait as we have enough in the squad to easily avoid relegation imo

I don't necessarily agree wholeheartedly with those quotes from Rigg and Dyche, I was just confused as to why the OP was surprised we currently sat at zero signings. We were told it was likely over and over.

Re: No signings again
To be fair I'm struggling to recall a window (summer or winter) when someone from within the club didn't bemoan "the market".
Re: No signings again
Given our recent run, the unearthing of McNeil (whose like a new signing coming good)
and JBG, Defour, Ward and Pope all hopefully back alongside Brady then I suspect it will be highly unlikely
we'll be getting anyone in.
Sean must now feel relatively confident that we can stay up with the current squad.
Wonder whether he's said anything of the kind to Garlick?
However, still think another midfielder and a forward wouldn't go amiss.
A few injuries in those departments and we could be struggling again.

Re: No signings again
I think we have enough options out wide and up front now. I think its central mid where we're one light due, in part, to Defour's inability to play in a central two. Leroy Fer had a good game tonight and adds more physicality than we have. Not necessarily a starter but a squad improver.

Re: No signings again
OPs thread title is ridiculous given there's 12 days left of the month and that we're not an early deal club due to our finances (players and agents will wait to see who else comes in).
When has Dyche not bemoaned the market? That's the norm but we've still had January singing in the past.
I think key will be getting one or two out at the same time as getting one of two in, we're carrying some deadwood right now.

Serious complacency setting in after a few decent results! Have a look at the league table, however, and you’ll see we’re still only three points above the drop zone. Cardiff have just brought in two new strikers. Fulham won’t be sitting on their hands either.Clarets4me wrote:We'll stay up with this squad ..... let yer man Rigg settle in ...

Re: No signings again
For anyone who thinks we dont need any signings, we are effectively playing without any new signings at all. Given that Harts dropped, Gibson doesnt start and Vydra is clearly not fancied.
Re: No signings again
Of course he would. I doubt it would be on the pitch though. He's not played much for two years and he is showing signs of age - do you think he is significantly better than all or most of McNeil, Gudmondsson, Brady, Lennon, and Hendrick?MRG wrote:Huddersfield managed to bring Puncheon in who would of done a job for us

Re: No signings again
I'd really prefer to look upon it like this:
The club know we have a weakness (as a business) in this area and the appointment of Rigg, only supports that view. Perhaps they are/have been chucking some of our unused transfer kitty (that would have been used on overpriced English based players) creating a European network and database, in the hope that 12-24 months of playing catch-up might yield some more players at a much more competitive prices.
I'm sure SD would love nothing more than to cast his net a little further than the Leeds-Liverpool canal.
We have to be trying to find the likes of Mahrez who cost 500k or a Kante, who again was relatively cheap at £5.6m
The positive's to focus on: Mcneil is practically a £15m (worth, if not more) new player and we have hopefully a fruitful Summer to look upon when Rigg and co can earn their money!
