Prince Philip
With events over the last few days about Prince Philip when he came close to killing himself is a car accident, it brought back memories from around 2008 when I was working in local engineering company.
We had a guy at work who was always organising sweep stakes for a £1 a go. Events like the FA cup and big horse races like the Grand National & the Derby you could garantee he'd be round the week before to get you to enter.
One day he turned up and said he was running a sweep with a difference but it was still a £1 to enter. The difference was that it was name the next celebrity to die. I know it sounds a bit sad but around 30 odd people had entering so I parted with my £1 and got my entry sheet. You had to write on a piece of paper who you thought the next well known person was who died. One lunch time we all crowded into the canteen for the grand draw. It was better organised the the FA Cup draw. The organiser had a black bag where we all put in our papers with the named person, I'd gone for Fidel Castro. One by one to much amusement, each person drew out a name which was entered onto a master sheet. When it was my turn to draw out a name, you guessed it, I got Prince Philip. One guy who had just drawn Jimmy Krankie offered to swop with me but I thought I was in with a good chance. As you may have realised I didn't win because the old Duke is still alive & kicking and currently working for Land Rover Freelander as a stunt driver and crash test dummy.
It was over a year later before the prize was claimed following the sad death of Michael Jackson in June 2009. I couldn't help laughing at one off my work colleagues who tried to get his £1 back when he found out he had drawn Ernie Wise and he had already been dead since March 1999.

Re: Prince Philip
Dead pool. I've been a part of them a couple of times. Pick a bunch of names and if they die you get 100 minus their age as points.

Used to enjoy a late night programme on Radio 2 on Saturday nights many years ago where the game 'brownbread' was played each week. A simple format of two contestants who were each given the names of well-known people and had to decide whether they were still alive or dead. Still an easy game to play as long as the one asking the questions knows the answer.

Used to be part of a similar thing except you’d pick the person and that’d be your entry. No money involved. This was in 2008 and I thought I’d chosen quite wisely with Kirk Douglas! Still going strong at 102!
Re: Prince Philip
I think this would be great idea for a movie.....
Imagine a series of Murders and all the dead famous people were in the "Dead Pool" ...

Re: Prince Philip
Maybe we could do the same on here. Everyone who enjoys this sort of game can put their own name forward and then we can have a sort of celebration party when they die. Not my cup of tea, but some of you might like it.

Re: Prince Philip
If I could go back in time and visit my 2007-self, I could play a game called ‘Pedo or Dead’
Rules are simple, I just rhyme of various celebrities, and the other ‘I’ has to guess if they are a Pedo, or if they’re dead by 2019
I’d imagine I surprise myself with the likes of Rolf Harris and Michael Jackson
That’s all I’d use a time machine for though.

Re: Prince Philip
To apologise would be stupid. An admission of guilt. He would be taken to the cleaners.

I can see your point but.....Woodleyclaret wrote:Always been a self centred moron famed for putting his foot in his mouth with thouthless remarks.

Insurance companies advice ...
DO NOT CONTACT THE OTHER PARTY AND APOLOGISE AFTER AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE IT WILL BE SEEN AS AN ADMISSION OF GUILT.
Re: Prince Philip
I don't see the point actually. That is a caricature impression of a man who has given his life to serving our country and the Commonwealth.
I am not a Royalist, however, fair's, fair.
