Efe Sodje jailed
Along with his brothers for fraud. Siphoning off cash that they claimed was for charity. Despicable.
Always remember his theatrics in getting Andy Cooke sent off at Macclesfield. Shows the character of the man.

My memories fuzzy, but weren't the same 3 up to something fishy about 4 or 5 years ago.

Re: Efe Sodje jailed
I was stood next to Sodje after the game, when Andy Cook had been sent off. He was speaking to someone who he appeared to know well, who asked Sodje, "did he foul you". He smiled and said "he never touched me". Stan Ternent came into the room, so knowing Stan well, I told him of the conversation I'd heard. He told me to wait where I was and he went straight over and asked Sodje if Cook had caught him and of course he said he had. Stan came back and said he couldn't do anything about it. If players were fined by the Club back then, I bet Cookie was let off by Stan. Sodje a cheat on and off the field. He should have got a jail sentence in my mind for feigning the Cook incident. I've hated Macclesfield from that day, nearly as much as them down the road.

Re: Efe Sodje jailed
Whichever way you look at it, Cooke was rightly sent off.
Re: Efe Sodje jailed
Remember going to Crewe away ( I think) . He got loads of stick from our fans that day.

I remember that game at Crewe.Longsider wrote:Remember going to Crewe away ( I think) . He got loads of stick from our fans that day.
All the Burnley fans were singing "he's got a tea towel on his head" at Sodje non stop and he was getting more and more wound up, gesticulating at the fans instead of concentrating on his job and looking like he was going to burst into tears
Think it's one of those occasions we were definitely the 12th Man

Re: Efe Sodje jailed
Shocked and appalled that a gentleman from Nigeria should have been convicted of fraud in a British court, I've never heard of such a thing !
Is this a first ?
edit: I've just googled " Nigerian fraud ", apparently, it's a tad more common than I thought ..

Does he do those emails, too?
Re: Efe Sodje jailed
Sixty-odd grand is a lot of money in Nigeria. What should the going rate be for stealing the medical care from sick children? Or put another way, how many children died who could have been saved?cricketfieldclarets wrote:2.5 years for less than 20 grand each?

Not conclusive but what would your take be looking at this with fresh eyes?

My first take from that video is Glen Little playing in League One looks as ridiculous as it sounds.Papabendi wrote:Not conclusive but what would your take be looking at this with fresh eyes?

Re: Efe Sodje jailed
Those children would have just wasted the money anyway. At least this way Sodje spent it on people who deserved it. This was just the free market working.

There'd be a lot more footballers arrested for fraud if there was any connection between theatrics and a broader moral compass.Somethingfishy wrote:Along with his brothers for fraud. Siphoning off cash that they claimed was for charity. Despicable.

It's bad enough hearing that anyone gets up to capers like that but having had a job as a professional footballer one would expect much higher standards.

I still remember a classic line from a Claretsmad match report a good few years back "I think we're the only club who's never had a Sodje". Thank God we never did.

I see they were all born in the UK so it looks as if we are stuck with them when they are released although one of the "suspects" is in Dubai and refuses to return for questioning. He won't be back until he has to leave when he has no job and then the British taxpayers will have to look after him

Plenty of people in this country more than adept at diverting cash away from those in need and into the snouts of the greedy and corrupt.
Most folk call them the Tory party. It's de rigueur, don't you know.

Labour not far behind, T Dan Smith, John Stonehouse Peter Mandleson, Harold's lavender list the late Tessa Jowells and hubby David Mills to name a few not to mention Cash for honours scandals in the Blair time in Downing street.fatboy47 wrote:Plenty of people in this country more than adept at diverting cash away from those in need and into the snouts of the greedy and corrupt.

It is only the colour of their shirts as they put their snouts in the trough that distinguishes them. It is something that is in politics but probably less so in UK than elsewhere, but you never know.
Wasn't in Lloyd George who was one of the first known dodgy dealers?
And who was it said "I will be buggered if I will join the Liberal Party?"
Can't quite recall but it was someone in the 1970's

At the time we thought the game shouldn't have even gone ahead as the ball kept stopping in puddles.

Tend to agree ...And always more disappointing if its a Labour member...we expect greed and slobbering corruption from the Tories...grabbing is what they preach...they're only doing what it says on their tin.....Blair's lot were just Tories in Labour clothing though to be fair.
