I think the 5 at the back could be an option again for this match. Or at least 5 in midfield. I think 4-4-2 away to City is asking for trouble.

I thought about that, but there is a lot to be said for continuity too and the players being familiar in there roles.

If we go 5 at the back then for me it would be:

Pope

Tarks Long Gibson
Hendrick Ward
Cork Defour Westwood
Vydra
Vokes

Refresh my memory what system did we employ at Watford at the back?

That's not a bad second string at all.
And if that's the case, only play the players you want to get game time (a la Pope).

Playing a rotated squad was disastrous in the Europa League.
Play as strong of a team as we can with Pope in net (whether or not you consider him our best keeper) and should we get an injury, relax, we have a good second team.

Yes because Watford are every bit the attacking threat that Man City are?

I was asking a genuine question so I'll ask it again, what system did we employ at Watford at the back line/defence?

SD mentioned Brady and also that JBG seemed ready to go so we could shape up as strong or stronger than we have been recently

Sounds like nobody wants to win. If that’s the attitude, might as well not bother watching.

Where did the Dare To Dream spirit go?

Any results from the 2 Manchester teams would be a bonus, realistically we're not going to win the cup,so losing at Man City is arguably the best case scenario,of course we don't want to be on the end of a thrashing either, but that Southampton game is a huge 6 pointer for both teams,so if we can avoid injuries to key/returning players, that has to be the priority i'm afraid.

Pope
Bardsley Tarks Gibson Taylor
Hendrick Cork Westwood Brady
Vydra Vokes

Definitely can't risk McNeil or JBG they are to important.

I hope it’s just a rumour we are fielding a reserved team so City also scale their team back. Then announce a full strength team and play to win. 5th round would be quite something!

Apologies, hard to read the tone of words sometimes. We played 4-4-2 v Watford as we have for several games in a row.

Losing is never the best case scenario.

If we play the first team and win, and keep on winning, then do you realise the effect it will have? It will mean we have to play three more cup games between now and the end of the season. Yes, it will give players and fans confidence and an adrenalin rush, and give us all some great memories on a par with and better than Coyle's cup run and play-offs, but can that compare to the energy-sapping effect of playing three more games? That's almost one a month, I tell you. Oh the horror.

We're already facing the frightening prospect of playing 14 games in the last 15 weeks of the season. If that rises to 17 in 15 weeks - could as much be asked of any human?

(I think it could.)

Normally i'd agree but given Sean's lack of appetite for cup ties i'm already resigned to seeing a weakened 11,City will change a few as well no doubt but their strength in depth is frightening, being positive the players selected on Saturday should see this as a chance to impress and force their way into the PL starting 11.

Very few clubs play their strongest 11 these days in the FA Cup. Instead of admitting that they will be fielding a weakened team managers use the coded language "utilising the whole of the squad". Chris Hughton during his press conference yesterday admitted that he will be making changes against West Brom. Will Portsmouth even field their strongest team against QPR? Top of League 1 by just a single point (could be off the top come Saturday tea time) they have a League 1 fixture away at Luton next Tuesday that could take priority, if promotion to the Championship is their main aim. They are already in the semi finals of the EFL Cup so fixtures could be piling up if replays are required etc.
