Plane missing in the Channel

A light aircraft heading to Cardiff from Nantes has gone missing near Alderney.

Coincidence that Cardiff have signed Sala from Nantes? I hope so and it isn't him or any of his family/entourage.

How many light aircraft will fly to Cardiff from Nantes?
Can't be many. :(

On the cardiff forum someone is saying the same French journalist is now tweeting he was on board. I couldn't access the tweet. Tragic whoever is involved.

Assuming there is generally only one outcome when planes go missing?

If he wasn't on board he'll quickly pipe up somewhere to say so to allay fears. The longer he doesn't the more sure you can be that he was.

Unbelievable news really, literally a day or so after they sign him for a club record fee (£18m or so?).

Terribly sad news, you can but hope for a miracle for the people on that plane but if they have gone down in the middle of the Channel, in the middle of the night - you would not expect survivors. Can you imagine how cold it must be if they even got out of the aircraft (fully clothed)?

Pray for a miracle :(

A Ferry's captain once told me that if anyone fell overboard they would be dead by the time the ship could turn around due to hyperthermia.

Dreadful news.

Sala was on board the flight according to French civil aviation authority. Fingers crossed but it doesn't look good.

Awful news, reading the reports it would appear that the area the plane has crashed is avoided by sailors due to the rocks in the sea and previous shipwrecks which have occurred.

Aviation expert just said that the pilot would have a life jacket and oxygen but highly unlikely any passengers would have this.

Little to no hope of a positive outcome from the search I'm afraid. Horrible and terrifying way to go, and at such a young age footballer or otherwise.

French Police and French Aviation have both confirmed the plane carrying Sala and the pilot has been lost between Nantes and Cardiff Airport

Tuesday 21st January 2019

The player's dad, Horatio, told Argentine TV station Channel 5 News: "A friend told me, I did not know anything, I'm in Rosario, I'm desperate, I hope everything goes well.

"Still nobody from Nantes has communicated with us, we are worried, desperate, this took us all by surprise.

"I don't have any information on the journey, the only thing I know is that it was
"They are saying that the plane lost control in the channel. I don't know what could have happened. I am speechless."

His mother, Mercedes, added: "The plane is from the President of Cardiff City FC, they informed us that the plane had disappeared and that they were looking for it."

Cardiff Airport confirmed the aircraft was due to arrive from Nantes but a spokeswoman said that no plane ever landed.

The pilot asked to do an emergency landing in Gurnsey but never landed there either.

It's not looking good at all. You couldn't last long in the sea in such temperatures. Nantes' match in the Cup (due to be played tomorrow evening) has been called off.

Terrible, terrible news.

Gutted for everybody involved, Cardiff the club and fans must be devastated, but mostly for him and his family.

it's a strange one considering the owner of Cardiff has a private jet why they would let him travel on a PA46. Very tragic though regardless of the passenger

The private jet is probably where ever its owner is. And he might not be in the UK.

A flight over water in a single engine prop plane, at night, in icing conditions... questions are going to be asked about this for sure.

no, but a PA46 cruising at 5000ft seems very low when it can go up to 25 and the length of the flight

Ugh! I've just had a morbid moment. I was looking on flight radar for similar flights to see if flying at that altitude is normal when i noticed a weird flight path north of Guernsey. Then realised it's a search and rescue plane.
