Re: Vincent Janssen
Looked a decent player when he first signed for Spurs but couldn’t get that elusive first goal.
Forlan had the same at Utd and he was a fabulous footballer.
Possible but who are you dropping? Barnes or Wood.

Honestly. As much as I now love Barnes. And as good as him and Wood are together you can always improve.
His record in Holland and for the national team is incredible. Looked goo up to as you say it came to trying to get his first spurs goal. Same thing happened with soldado.

Re: Vincent Janssen
Barnes as Wood has started scoring again (although that may be because of Barnes). At the moment though if we got this guy it would surely spell the demise of Vokes as he is now third choice it seems, he surely won't settle for fourth choice, he's far too good for that.piston broke wrote:Looked a decent player when he first signed for Spurs but couldn’t get that elusive first goal.

Re: Vincent Janssen
Since the Barnes-Wood partnership has been rekindled we have looked a different team, whatever the merits of either this pairing clearly works,if we signed Janssen i'd guess he'd replace Wood up top, whether BFC then decide to cash in on Wood or Vokes,it's hard to see one or both of them being happy warming the bench.
Amazing that Janssen's still only 24 it feels like he's been around forever, rumours linking him with a lucrative China move or Sevilla as well.
If we could snap this guy up for 10/12 million he would be worth a punt, anymore than that and i'd be wary, also wages could be a stumbling block.

Re: Vincent Janssen
I think if he did sign him, Wood/Barnes wouldn't be going anywhere. They've both spent time out of the side before, on the subs.
I expect SD will stick to the current front two and Janssen would have to fight for his place.

Re: Vincent Janssen
Why would he replace Wood? He is scoring. Look at Barnes two misses on Saturday. Barnes is playing well at the moment but he is definitely not as good as Wood. Why would you bring in a new striker and drop your best current sriker?tiger76 wrote:Since the Barnes-Wood partnership has been rekindled we have looked a different team, whatever the merits of either this pairing clearly works,if we signed Janssen i'd guess he'd replace Wood up top, whether BFC then decide to cash in on Wood or Vokes,it's hard to see one or both of them being happy warming the bench.

Which is a shame as he is the best we have in that position just now. It seems to me that some on here let their hatred of Leeds cloud their judgement. Wood and Taylor have both come in for stick and where did they come from? I've never quite understood this hatred of Leeds, okay some their fans are a bit of a disgrace but the club had never harmed us nor are they a 'local rival'. Just what is it?ClaretTony wrote:He's sort of become a target this season when things haven't gone well
Re: Vincent Janssen
He signed a new 3 year deal before Christmas, wouldn't make much sense, unless Sam wants out.Papabendi wrote:Be a great move with possibly Vokes departing?
Could mean Vydra has done a Vossen type move, and is ready to be going before really starting.
IF Janssen comes in ( I don't think he will especially with the fee mentioned ) it will almost certainly mean there's 1 forward goingout. You can't keep all 5 happy.

Looks a high-risk move. Having seemingly wasted a similar amount on Vydra, not sure Dyche would be up for a pint like this.

No idea if he'd be any good for us, but before we write off our own players too much, I reckon Barnes, Wood and Vokes will all have a better goals to games ratio than Janssen in the Premier League. And that's playing for a side, which it's fair to say, creates a few less chances than Spurs.

Re: Vincent Janssen
Been looking at various things on this on news now and it seems as though it is a very real possibility. General view of Spurs fans seems to be yeah that would be good money for him but that he could do a job for us. Given what they have at Spurs he's unlikely to get a run of games unless he was outstanding when he got the chance and more importantly he actually wants out. Pochetino has said he has no plans for him so he's going somewere. Depends on how much he wants to be in the PL because we can't match the money that will be offered by the Chinese clubs. Although Spurs fans would be happy with 15m for him none of them have slagged him off or said anything bad about him.
Re: Vincent Janssen
I’d imagine this has come from his agent to make sure he hasn’t been forgotten.

Re: Vincent Janssen
If he cost Spurs £17m two and a half years ago i would be disappointed if we paid £15m given his very poor record since joining them. His contract must be close to an end too
Re: Vincent Janssen
Telegraph website (not the LET) reporting Spurs could accept £5m and that GNK could be available too. GKN showed on Sunday he can beat a man so would be popular with UTC posters.
Come on, let's get spending.

We have players on the books already, who can't get a game, that I'd rather see than Janssen.
His agent is probably touting him because even though Spurs are without Kane, Alli and Son, Janssen still isn't getting anywhere near the pitch.

If we can afford to buy and pay his wages hes deffo worth a punt. 12 million is nothing by todays standards, i think he would be an ideal strike partner for wood and Barnes, and one thing is for sure, SD will get the best out of him, get rid of Vydra to recoup some of the fees, Janssen could just be that bit of quality that were missing at present, if we are to make one signing this window this lad would be the best we could get by a long way.

I actually don't remember '66 (I was 12 and not a fully fledged 'fan'). Had been a supporter all my life but it was '68 before I attended my first game.piston broke wrote:You don’t remember them kicking us out of the runners up spot in 66 or that twohat Hunter finishing Frank Caspers career? Hunter was a player and not the club.
That anti-football side hammered us 6-1 at Elland road at one time.
All the above apart how long can you carry a grudge, they aren't even the same club now, neither are we. I used to hate Spurs but now I don't, no reason to I suppose. Even local rivalry is odd, I hate Rovers (obviously) and Preston and Bolton to a lesser extent, but our closest neighbours are Stanley and I love 'em and go there sometimes. Blackpool are another Lancashire rival and I don't have any problem at all with them.
You pays your money I suppose.

Im not a fan either if Im honest, I actually dislike them more than any other team along with scousers. I think it all comes down to experiences in life with their fans. Absolutely nothing against Wood and I'm glad he's playing well but lets be honest he deserved the moans earlier this season when he couldnt hold the ball up or even jump for a header at times, he was a shadow of the player he can be.houseboy wrote:Which is a shame as he is the best we have in that position just now. Re: Vincent Janssen
By your measure of fans then my most hated club would be Forest. Got attacked twice on a visit to the City ground in the 70's (both before AND after the game) and then got attacked by a small bunch of 'em after a home game when we had just beat them 5-1. I recall the assault before the game at Forest when I was tackled by a skinhead who was about 12 inches taller than me, about 18 inches wider and had no bloody neck to speak of, I had to wait till it talked to actually ascertain if it was human. I lost my scarf in the skirmish but at least I escaped with my life.Burnley1989 wrote:Im not a fan either if Im honest, I actually dislike them more than any other team along with scousers. Re: Vincent Janssen
You'd only sign janssen if you were losing Vokes I think. Considering age and potential, if we got 6-7 million for Vokes the outlay on janssen might be worth the risk wages depending, for a 24 year old with his record in Holland and for the national side.
Janssen aside, the thing we need to get our head around is risk. For us to improve the quality in our first 11 (which I'm not necessarily saying we need in this window) we have no choice but to take them. Either it's a smaller amount on an unknown that's the result of scouting lower levels. Or, it's a well known player who's lost his way for one reason or another but has at some stage shown potential.
The player we can't afford, is the proven player who is continuing to prove himself at this level.

Mine was just before the viaduct near the roundabout, they were over the other side of the road (not dissimilar to you - about 10 of them), I was making my way to the bus station after parting from mates who were going elsewhere. I heard one shout 'there's one' and somehow I just knew it was me. I felt like a wildabeast singled out by a pride of lions.Quicknick wrote:I got kicked on the skin before that 5-1 Forest win. Good player; not the quickest but can hold the ball up well and is very technical with the ball at his feet.
