Hetmyer looks a proper W Indies batter.

Bats in a floppy and hits it on the up maan.

289 not great but we'll soon see how competitive a total it could prove to be,important innings for Jennings in particular, pitch is doing more today as well.

Burns gone now first ball after lunch 35-2,typical top-order calamity from England.

BBC commentators were musing about Cookie returning against the Aussies this summer,if this shambles carries on that might not be wishful thinking.

Against pace bowling Jennings is a walking wicket. Given that we've got the Aussies this summer and then South Africa next winter I think how long do they stick with him?

As I said yesterday "This could turn out to be a very interesting match if we don't bat well in our first innings."

How does Jimmy feelwhen he is watching this? I can only imagine -----although I think that he is getting used to it by now.

Well when we are bad we are spectacularly bad. I hope Curran now proves me wrong but leaving Broad out is looking a very poor decision.

Whoever is the batting coach or defensive coach needs sacking.

Test match standard batsman should not be getting out to this bowling when defending.

I don't think there's anything wrong with our ability, but our attitude stinks. It seems every time we think we have it easy, we just switch off. It isn't as if it's the first time in the last few years that our batsmen have failed spectacularly. Normally they get saved by a couple of tail lenders getting their heads in gear.
They don't need coaching, just a massive kick up the backside.

I was just saying the same thing, Ashingtonclaret46. He must sometimes wonder why he bothers, when he’s so let down by his team-mates. Having said that, some cracking bowling from WIndies!

When you look at the batting line-up where is the experience, aside from Root and possibly Bairstow?

It says a lot when Anderson is one of the more experienced batsmen.

Jesus! left work at 40-2 Root just at the crease gets home and finds we're 77 all out,the lack of warm-up games is a factor but nothing can excuse that shambles, clearly the pitch hasn't got any demons the Windies are 50+ for their opening pair second time round.

There are 3 more days if we can bat for all that time we might have 1/2 a chance

Makes the Windies 1st innings look like a 600+.
Funny thibg is I was watching at 2pm and the commentator said a par score at Kensington Oval is 255 so they were ahead of the par rate.

Very true.

The bowlers have given us a little sniff at the end picking the 6 wickets up. If we can roll them over tomorrow leaving under 400 to chase then there's a slight chance.
With it only being the third day the pitch won't be a problem. Just have to sort themselves out and bat properly.

The bowlers must be miffed to say the least, toiling on the 1st evening to bring England back into the game, and then the batters playing keystone cops on day 2,credit to England for sticking in this test, but i can't see England chasing 350+ in the 4th innings.

It's important that when the 2nd dig comes round the Windies are forced to work hard for their wickets if nothing else this will take some legs out of their bowlers with the 2nd test following close behind.

Getting the run around here from Dowrich and Holder lead well over 400 now, more importantly Anderson and Stokes are bowling themselves into the ground, how much fuel will be in the tank for Antigua.

The only man to emerge from this test for England with credit is one Stuart Broad he has to be recalled surely.

Think it's safe to say England have picked the wrong team here!! How can you misjudged the pitch and conditions so much?

Whilst I agree with you, if you bat like we did yesterday then team selection takes on lesser significance. We were simply shocking. But Broad must play in Antigua. Who gets the chop could be interesting!

I think Woakes is a far bigger miss than Broad as he his quicker and gets more bounce. They can both move it about a bit but Woakes is a genuine all rounder as a bonus.
Both will be in I think as Root doesn't trust his leggy and Curran looks slow.

On current form Curran would miss out, unless you drop one of the spinners,if it's the latter option Rashid has to be left out.

But if the batsman can't even muster a century between them, the bowling has no effect anyway.

A ton for the West Indian captain great knock.

When they bring Broad back in, they will drop Rashid. As someone above has said, the bowling doesn't matter if we bat like this test match. We don't have a no. 1, 2 or 3 batsmen at the moment and Stokes is a dodgy number 5.

As with many England bowlers before him Curran is fine in English conditions but useless on pitches like Barbados. Curran lacks the pace and height to be effective. According to Root pre-match England now had the bowling attack to cope with all conditions. Just bowl Stokes into the ground presumably.

This is what happens when no proper warm-up games are arranged beforehand, why England couldn't have played at least one 4-day match against one of the domestic sides heaven only knows.

What a difference in days. No wickets falling in the 90 overs after 18 did yesterday.

Burns batted well taking us through to stumps. More of the same tomorrow getting some much needed batting practice in.

It's easy to think England were overconfident/under-prepared in that 1st innings. Why that should be with the amount of coaches/helpers etc it's difficult to fathom.
Unless the weather intervenes big time, we'll lose this badly but a 300+ 2nd innings score would regain something to cling ion to.

Much better 2nd innings sadly 2 days too late,Jennings just out to a poor drive again,Burns going well in the 60's,he will play in the 2nd test,Keaton perhaps not.

90-1 only another 538 required ;)

The Aussies just crushed Sri Lanka by an innings inside 3 days BTW.10 wickets for Pat Cummins.

England 200 for 4, 400+ runs behind, this game as one sided as the FA Cup tie at City, a depressing afternoon.

228-8 now poor batting against the spinner,Chase has 6-54 on a blameless pitch, some big decisions for the management and captain before the next test.We battled hard until lunch and then imploded in the afternoon.

Can't see wholesale changes in the batting the only alternative in the touring party is Joe Denly, rumours that the pitch in Antigua will be good for batting so how do England get 20 wickets.

Burns-obviously
Denly-can't be any worse than Jennings
?at a push Jennings i suppose, only because there is no-one else, just tell him not play any drives.
Root
Stokes
Bairstow
Curran-i guess
Woakes-is he fit he played in the warm-up game
Broad
Leach
Anderson

Need to win the toss and post a decent total to give the bowlers something to work with, the top 3 is a major concern for the Ashes, but who else is knocking on the selector's door.
