France-emptying all the banks

Will this bring the country to it's knees by emptying all the banks or is the card system too big to impact it now?

Don't worry, Monsieur Macron and Mutti Merkel signed their version of the Entente Cordiale yesterday. That will solve everything.

Since 1st of September 2015 it's not legal to make a transaction with more than 1000 euros in cash in France. That includes cash withdrawals from the bank.

As well as a limit per withdrawal the banks impose a weekly limit on people, mine is about 10% of my monthly salary.

They'll empty a couple of machines but it's not going to impact anyone other than the poor buggers who live nearby who'll need to go further afield to get their cash.

Obviously the machines are stocked with available cash, this is never going to start a run on the bank because when the machine is empty it's empty and if there's a big queue of gilet jaunes in front of the bank they'll just not bother to fill it up again.

When I spent a lot of time in France professionally, I once asked my French colleagues why most of the routes nationales (normal roads) had long lines of trees at either side fore miles and miles. They said it was so the German troops could march in the shade.

I'm surprised these protesters have any money in banks.

I think we just may of had to surrender if we lived next door to the Germans.
A massive army. Weren't there over a million German troops surrender at the end?

And that was after the Germans had lost about 4 million men in Russia.

To be fair to the French, we had an English Channel to protect us. The Germans had the bigger army, but we had the better Navy so the German Army couldn't get to England. The Germans cheated in the war with the French - they didn't go by sea!

Please remember in all this er, "hilarious banter" that exactly the same would have happened to us if it wasn't for the channel.

It very nearly did anyway. If hitler had attacked one more time we would have fallen. It was a combination of luck, determination and sheer bravery by a heavily outnumbered RAF that we retained our territory. One of the turning points in the war for me, along with pearl harbour and the battle of Stalingrad.

Indeed, it's a good job we had the RAF and all its immigrants. Think it was about 20% or so of the Battle of Britain pilots.

Of course not, although I think there is less danger of that.
