I imagine it's more Ward going left back when defending, with Taylor going wide left. Brady going right back when defending and Hendrick going wide right... I think.

It's good that he's experimenting though. Maybe be thinks Taylor could do a job in central midfield.

Interesting that he's rested (protected) our starting central midfield and starting forwards.

The image I posted is from the club, though. You'd think they'd know where the players are starting.

Something similar to this would be my reckoning. Only really puts Taylor out of position, but does slot things nicely into a back 5 if needs be. Brady may well end up being deeper to cover Tarks, with Hendrick pushing further up. I have to say, I am intrigued. I do wonder why Sam isn’t playing though. I suspect it has been designed to play on the break

...Tarks ....Long...Gibson.. Ward
........Defour............Taylor
................Hendrick
....Brady ...................McNeil

How about Defour being told to push on to support the front two in the knowledge that there’s strength behind?

When I saw the line up I assumed 4411, Tarks at right back and Taylor left midfield as per Barnsley, with one of Brady and McNeil on the right and the other playing off Vydra.

Said a few times that McNeil looks to me me to have the tools to be a genuine option as a number 10, and he's played that role coming through the age groups I believe. It may well be that Dyche wants to take a look at him there today.

City have pretty much put out a first choice XI.
All those who don’t start every week are still class (Gundogan, Mahrez, Jesus), and have the actual first choice replacement on the bench.

Chance for this Burnley team to show what they can do, and push for a starting berth. Very tough test. Very capable team though. I’d be surprised if any of these don’t feature in at least someone’s best XI

I think we’d suit Defour pushing up further. But I don’t think Dyche does

No sh*t our squad is so weak we barely have a reserve side as pretty much everyone available makes the match day squad every week

About 5 seconds after I posted it though, I thought that the most likely lineup was a simple 541 with either Ward or Taylor in a back 3:

Pope
Tarks Long Gibson Ward / Taylor
Brady Defour Hendrick McNeil
Vydra

I still prefer my lineup though. Much more exciting, and fitting to play against City

Anyone who can’t see it as a 5-3-2 while defending (most of the game) switching to quick break 3-5-2 when we get the ball (rarely today) really does need to take a step back and think.

I have had a step back. Had a quick think.

Who’s the second striker?

Looks like 4-5-1 to me. Long RB Ward LB, Taylor in front of Ward, Brady on the right, Vydra up top on his own.

McNeil, as per the image in the first post. Granted, it may be 5-3-1-1 or 3-5-1-1 on the break, but the top 2 can be flexible, but it’s still a top 2...

I fear a bit of a trouncing with City's team and our makeshift one who have hardly played: De Bruyne, Mahrez, Jesus, Fernandinho, Stones, Walker against Defour, brady, long, Gibson, Vydra,Ward . Wow, a bit of a difference!!

Looks like 5-4-1 ala Spurs game with Taylor and McNeil down the right and Vydra up top on his own. Maybe you didnt step back far enough earlier!

well, we've scrpaed through the 1st half with it being only 1 so there's a chance if we change something a half time. Vydra clearly not happy in the role and up top alone isnt working; looks a sad lonely figure. Vegas above had it spot on before with his formation.

To be fair I would have sat Wood down as City scored their third and saved him for Tue. At least we managed to get a touch in their half after Wood came on. Vydra looked a long way out of his depth.

We play a mix-n-match lineup whereas City decide to play their 1st XI. No shock we get thumped again. Dyche really does make his priorities clear
