Chelsea v Sheff Wed
VAR at it again. Sheffield Wednesday awarded a penalty correctly over turned by VAR.
Then seconds later Chelsea get a penalty correctly given by VAR. Scored by Willian who gets pelted by coins by some of the 6k fans from Yarrrrkshire.

Great tackle by the Chelsea midfielder.

You wouldn’t get Burnley fans throwing coins at Stamford BridgeJimMcDonald wrote:VAR at it again. Sheffield Wednesday awarded a penalty correctly over turned by VAR.

What I didn't get was the drop ball restart.
The ball had gone for a corner ( if it wasn't a penalty)
Why did the Chelsea GK get the ball given to him to restart the game. Sheff W lost out twice.
And the subsequent Chelsea attack may have never happened.

Re: Chelsea v Sheff Wed
When the Wednesday penalty was overturned why wasn't a corner given? That has completely baffled me.

I totally agree with both MACCA and jrgbfc and it should have been a corner. Had that been given they would probably have been still trying to take it when Chelsea were awarded their penalty. More shambles with VAR involved.

I couldn't believe it when Marriner just gave Cabellero the ball and said away you go.Ashingtonclaret46 wrote:I totally agree with both MACCA and jrgbfc and it should have been a corner. It's either a pen or a corner, it really is that simple.
I was a big fan of helping out the officials for the big calls eith technology, but there's a lot of ironing out to be done.
Chelsea have had a massive helping hand today, however Everton playing in the same competition yesterday got shafted by the lack of VAR in their game.
Certainly isn't a level playing field.

Re: Chelsea v Sheff Wed
For those wondering why Sheffield Wednesday were not awarded a corner after Ethan Ampadu's tackle was ruled to be not a penalty by VAR.
Direct from rule 5.1.11 of the VAR handbook....
• if play was stopped for a review and the original decision is not overturned, play restarts with a dropped ball where the ball was when play was stopped

That proves they got it wrong then as the penalty award was overturned.
Oops, beat me to it.

Are you sure it was coins and not washers.
Re: Chelsea v Sheff Wed
Should that Chelsea penalty have been disallowed? I’m fairly sure the penalty taker feinted to take it after he had completed his run up. Kick should have been retaken.
(Law 14: ......feinting to kick the ball once the kicker has completed the run-up (feinting in the run-up is permitted); the referee cautions the kicker)
