Crouch takes Vokes place on the bench and I’d rather have crouch in a 15 minute cameo than Vokes

Why? What if we need Crouch for more than cameos?

Crouch is British, experienced and a good sort for the dressing room. Seem to the main criteria for Dyche when it comes to new signings unfortunately.

if one of Barnes or Wood get injured, which they might very well not...

We'll play Vydra off Wood/Barnes, or we'll play 451, or we'll start with Crouch.

By the way, why is everyone so sure that Crouch can't play 70+ minutes. Or a whole game even?

Averaging about 20 mins per game in the Championship

It's been a difficult time for some UTC posters having been on an unbeaten PL run of 5 games including a point against the form side. At last the signing of Peter Crouch has got them out of the woodwork, passwords reset and now the opportunity to get stuck into the club and Dyche.

Normal service resumed.

Will Crouch be more hated than Hart? Tough call.

All these people banging on about 10 million being good money for Vokes. Its 2019, January transfer window,he's only 29 and in his last 2 championship seasons has had an excellent return. He is a top championship player and should be commanding a bigger fee, look at Ross McCormack, went to Fulham for 11 million 5 years ago, back to the championship. 10 million is low for Vokes. 12-15 in this market is a fairer price and would go halfway to a first team striker rather than a bench warmer.

We could pay £30/40 million for a striker but the wages a £30/40 million striker would demand would just screw the club, Stoke. Swansea and West Brom eventually gave in and started to sign players who commanded huge wages and look where that eventually got them. I wouldn't want to have the responsibility of the players wage and transfer budget, it's not a game where if you are wrong you can just reboot. Bought Morata £70 million sold him for £45million months later, bought Fred for £52 million didn't fit in so he isn't playing, bought nobody but rebuilt the stadium borrowed Wembley and got 29,000 on v Watford main striker injured still not bought anybody and still in the Champions League......swapped our current talented bench warmer for another talented bench warmer and got a shed load of Wonga happy days ;)

I know it won't excite everyone but a deal to the summer with his experience is good business. He'll know he won't start games but could provide vital headers in the last mins of the game. I enjoyed vokes spell at the club and he has been a vital player but crouch will win more headers.

The last two years' leading scorers in the Championship[ went for about £15m each. They were both younger, with more development potential. I wouldn't expect Vokes aged 29 to match their price.

Super Sub we can only hope.
I would have been happy to see Vydra go for 9 million plus Crouch

Just seen Dyche interview on SSN. He says he knows all about Crouch's minutes spent on the pitch and the number of runs he has made this season. He then goes on to compare him to Michael Duff as a Burnley player. Well, that fills me with confidence in our recruitment strategy.

Really? I dare say Che Adams would like to move to a Premier League club, but Birmingham are telling him he can’t. We keep getting told how difficult it is to do deals in January, but apparently not if we’re selling it’s not.

Sam wanted to play, and he deserves it. Really disappointed to see him go but I think this Crouch is a decent option in the circumstances.

Completely different situations.

Adams is their best player and a first team regular.

Vokes has given us 8 years' service, is no longer first choice and we have been able to replace him.

Insinuating that the club / board are just acting for their own personal financial gain just weakens any argument you might make about the detriment to the team from Vokes leaving. I think Vokes has been a great player but he has also been bitterly disappointed at not playing. We'll never know the full story about any of the transfer discussions (in or out) and on the face of things you may disagree with some decisions by the club / board. But they deserve trust and respect for everything they have achieved recently, not childish insinuations.

In what way has it got better, the more you have thought about it? Not a criticism, just curious as to your thinking.

I like Crouch, decent, vastly underrated player and always comes across as a likeable bloke but I’m struggling to see much sense in this signing and feel it’s an unnecessary risk.

Always felt he was a little underrated actually. Welcome to the club Peter.
That said, disappointing we haven’t pushed the boat out for Adams. He has a good run to the end of the season and he’ll probably end up at Wolves or Leeds or somewhere. IF (and it is an ‘if’ as none of us really knows) Nixon was right that £12m would have done it, I think its one we might regret in future months.

Posters rub their hands with glee at the "extra funds" coming from the Vokes/Crouch deal but fear not it won't be frittered away on Che Adams. Far too young and promising and Birmingham want a premium for their star player.

Nothing more than I just like the thought of Peter Crouch playing for Burnley, it's got that cult hero potential which is more interesting than your average signing. And I just don't subscribe to the catastrophe this is supposed to be. I accepted the fact that we were unlikely to do business in January, and that our new recruitment strategy would be implemented in the summer in all likelihood. We're playing well, and I think we have enough to stay up. Four strikers is enough including Crouch in my opinion.

It says exactly what it says, assuming nothing.
Here's another PC stat: he's only completed one 90minute game this season.

The funny thing is that whilst I'm not over the moon I can see why this is happening, it gives Sam Vokes (who has been a fantastic servant) the move he wants, and we get a bench-warmer in.
I just think we need a striker to compete with Barnes or Wood for a starting place; in SD's own words, competition for the shirt lifts performances

This isn't the first opportunity. Its the first time we've had an offer since Sam has fallen down the pecking order, and more importantly at a time when Sam wanted to leave. Previously he hasn't.

Somebody was on here the other day suggesting our transfer business was frugal because the directors like the free sandwiches and to have regular decorating in the lounges. I'd put your argument in that sort of basket.
