Peter Crouch
Re: Peter Crouch
Re Crouch. Stoke offered a straight 12 million for Vokes increasing to 14.5 million if we take Crouch of their hands.

Good points LTL although I’m not sure Birmingham would fancy Agyei just yet. It’s a pity that Wells is at QPR as he would be a real sweetener.

Re: Peter Crouch
Nods, Wells would have been ideal for them, but Agyei does have the added attraction of being out of contract at the end of this season. Birmingham could take him on loan and if we don't have it in mind to renew his contract that would place them in pole position to sign him on a free transfer in the summer.John Johnson 1605 wrote:Good points LTL although I’m not sure Birmingham would fancy Agyei just yet. Re: Peter Crouch
Why not have a deadwood swap. We could let them have Stoke legend Walters back, who is good in the dressing room ( ask Rovers fans) and we could take Crouch. He would be good at putting up the nets up without the H&S risk of using a step ladder.

He wouldn't even be any good as a water boy.

Our new stand is moving towards completion and a tall bloke would be very useful when it comes to things like painting ceilings or putting up light fittings. His height advantage could be very useful to us and in the longer term he could add to the strength in depth of our window cleaning crew.
I'm guessing one of the biggest hurdles in relation to bringing in Che immediately is who could Birmingham bring in to replace him at this late point in the window?
If we need a deal swinger, and loans to Birmingham are a possibility considering their FFP situation, I would prefer to see Agyei go to them for the rest of the season with Che coming the other way.
It would provide Agyei with a very good first team opportunity and some of the similarities between him and Che would make it easier for Birmingham to include him in their squad without having to do a tactical overhaul.
The offer of a suitable replacement could constitute a huge difference between attraction point of two competing offers, if Southampton or another team do step in.
What has Ayegi shown to suggest he's good enough for the Championship though? Don't think taking some unproven kid will be that appealing to Brum tbh.

Re: Peter Crouch
I must be alone in this but I wouldn't mind seeing Crouch in a Burnley shirt! Did ok in his last premier seasons in spells and he's a decent footballer on the deck. Given Vokes isn't get much of a look in anyway, cashing in 10 million on him and having a replacement till the end of the season in Crouch wouldn't be too bad. Plus he seems like a solid bloke to have around.
Re: Peter Crouch
We have more than enough target men. Completion would be to sign a centre mid to rival/replace Cork, and a creator. Winger too since McNeil is the one current one not blighted by constant niggles, longer term injury, or just general ineffectual.Long Time Lurker wrote:I think people are failing to see the bigger picture with Crouch.

The biggest hurdle is paying the asking price. Which we can do whenever we like because we have the money. Garlick will probably have submitted 74 bids already varying in total by about 500k though.I'm guessing one of the biggest hurdles in relation to bringing in Che immediately is who could Birmingham bring in to replace him at this late point in the window?
I don’t mean to hurt anyone’s feelings, but I can’t see Agyei making it at this club. 21 might be young, but by now worthy talent should be starting to shine at league one minimum, which he hasn’t done. Contrast to McNeil who is 2 years younger and shining in the Prem, or Dunne who is the same age and has received rave reviews from every club he has played for.If we need a deal swinger, and loans to Birmingham are a possibility considering their FFP situation, I would prefer to see Agyei go to them for the rest of the season with Che coming the other way.

He isn’t substantial for Birmingham, zero goals in 9 league one appearances last season.

He would make a big impact on the squad.
Raising the average squad height by an 1/4 of an inch and age by an extra year.
Great work.

Can only be for financial reasons getting a good premium for Sam Vokes.

Always rated Peter Crouch. Good fit in the dressing room which is very important. Adds another dimension at least.

Re: Peter Crouch
I would agree totally mate but you know how our board act and they are not prone to throwing money around. If we had an extra 9m to play with there might, just possibly, be more chance of them paying that bit more instead of balking over the odd million or two.agreenwood wrote:If we need the Vokes money to make a signing, something has gone seriously wrong.
I know that we are supposedly awash with money but someone needs to tell the board that.

So long as there is more money coming in to the club coffers than going out then Garlick seems happy to go ahead with the deal.
Re: Peter Crouch
Dyche needs to start having a go at bringing players in from outside of Britain, Peter f*cking Crouch is the best we can do? Absolutely abysmal signing that lacks any inspiration whatsoever and that's before we've then decided to swap Sam Vokes for him, £7m is a pittance and it's money we don't need given our lack of spending output.

I love how people are acting as if signing Crouch means we aren't looking to sign other players
For me it seems that Dyche has decided he's happy with the squad, Vokes wants to leave and we're taking Crouch as cover.

Strikers who score goals attract a lot of interest from other clubs and a premium fee would have to be paid.
Sadly, cannot see Burnley doing that be it summer or winter.
