Imagine the scenes in the Stoke board room when someone told them we wanted Crouch. I’m sure they’re still picking themselves off the floor.

Think we had same idiots posting same rubbish when Bardsley signed.
If you need to chuck someone on for last twenty minutes needing a goal then no better around as an impact sub than crouch especially the way we play.
Looking forward to seeing him in a claret shirt Welcome Big Pete

Peter Crouch has a full page article every Saturday in the Daily Mail.

I can see the circulation figures in Burnley getting a big boost after this signing.

Impact off the bench and money in the bank to buy someone else. I think it’s a good deal. Vokes is our 4th choice striker at the moment. Not a big loss.

Stoke are prepared to offer former England striker Peter Crouch, 38, to Burnley as part of the deal that sees forward Sam Vokes, 29, join the Potters. (Mail)

That's nice of them. :o

Last season PL goals

Vokes 4 (in a team finishing 7th)
Crouch 5 (in a relegated team)

"Lob it up to the big man" is not guaranteed a goal, so many teams are more and more adept at dealing with it now that an old lanky guy who has scored 2 in 26 this season is hardly likely to cause them problems.

I'm a massive Dyche fan but I still feel his reluctance to either shop outside of the UK or pay the premium to buy UK players will cost us.
This is a signing that offers us virtually nothing.

Just a thought, if Crouch is valued quite high in this deal won’t it mean we pay less to Wolves in terms of sell on clause? Is this a smart move?

No. If they value Vokes at say 5 million and give us 5 million to take Crouch, we'd only have to pay Wolves about a million.

erm...Am I being thick? So for Vokes going, in return we receive £10m and Peter Crouch. I am sure that's how the FA and Wolves would view what you are saying.

I'm not great at maths, but isn't 7million minus 30% a bit more than 5million minus 3o% ?

Why not view it as £1 for Vokes and £9.99999m to Take Crouch ? So then we only owe Wolves 20p.
Surely there is something wrong with your logic Sproggy?

Yep. There’s been a lot posted on this board over the years “he played apart in the journey” “we wouldn’t be where we are if it wasn’t for him” blah blah blah.

But Vokes has been here from before Dyche and played a crucial role in 2 promotions and a 7th place finish. I’ve tried to find it on youtube but I can’t. But his header against Chelsea last season had the greatest piece of commentary I’ve ever heard. “Sam Vokes, free header, 6 yards out, what did the expect to happen?” Superb.

Thanks Sam!!

I'm gutted to see an icon like Sam Vokes leave but in fairness he is still good enough to command a place in the Championship.
To accommodate this the manager looks like he is signing a like for like impact player.
Plus we are getting some useful money.

I have no idea if the manager is targeting another player.

Can we please stop the mockrage and get behind the manager and any player he deems fit enough to give a shirt to?

This board is being controlled by one or two people who obviously have no idea what they are talking about and whose posts are becoming increaaingly irrelevant.

If this is the only business we do then yet again it will be an absolute shambles. Id rather keep Vokes.

I'll reserve judgement until 11pm, however at present it would appear we are up to our usual penny saving, penny pinching habits again!!

Think this could be a very clever move. He's been a top top striker for 20 years plus. There is not a lot he has not experienced in the game. Will be amazing to have giving advice to the forwards even if he doesn't make the first eleven. Can see him coming on from the bench to nick one for the remainder of the season. I've wished him in a claret shirt since Stan T thought he'd got him all those years ago.

Really sorry to see Sam go though. What a signing he was, I can remember how underwhelmed most of the fans were with his signing... he proved a few people very wrong. Good luck if as looks likely he's ending his time with us today. I wish him all the very best for the future and I for one will keep an eye on how he does. What a great servant he's been. Some great shared memories

The tactic is obvious and simple:

20 minutes to go. Crouch comes on, causes havoc, match ends with Burnley hanging on for a draw/win or snatching a late equaliser/winner.

That's it folks!

Don’t see why it’s so bad ? We get a fee for Sam and get Crouchy for free . Presume he’ll get what Vokes was on paywise . While I’ve loved watching the big man,Crouch is far better technically and quicker even at his age than SV. He’s more than capable of banging a few in .Looks like a “ no loss” signing and if ( as rumoured ) his mrs Abby Clancy is gonna be walking round the pitch semi naked with a “ half time board” at home games I’m all in!

If this pushes Vydra up the pecking order and Crouch is purely a last 5 min sub I'm fine with it. Vokes isn't good enough at this level anyway (although I love the guy). If the money goes towards Che Adams then even better.

Vokes is immense at holding the ball up. Scores goals. Id rather have him on the bench than Lakuku, Llorente, Sturidge, Higuain anyday
