A bit of perspective (chuckles)

Post by Goddy » Wed Jan 30, 2019 12:24 pm

Right - I'm just as disappointed with the fact that we could be 4 points better off from those last two away games but realistically, after the first half of the season the target has to be 17th or better (and those 2, perhaps unexpected, points might make the difference). I know I'm tempting the wit/wrath of a number of posters but to put our current situation in perspective (from how I see it) things could be much worse. Here's a few positives;

1. 14 games left of which 8 of those are at home and just 6 away.
2. Now picking up points away from home and any points away from home are not to be sniffed at
3. Home form seems to be improving
4. Still to play Soton, Palace and Cardiff....er.....all at home.
5. Hudds pretty much down but they could do us a favour and take points off Soton, Palace and Brighton who they've yet to play...all away from home.
6. Fulham tough run of fixtures now up until they play Cardiff at home (in match 36). They could well be down by then...or at least too far behind us to catch us.
7. Cardiff have a decent run of fixtures (in the next 7 games) but then, arguably have a run-in which is as difficult as ours.
8. We have shown we have enough without any new signings. Any signings made in the next 24 hours or so will be a bonus
9. Siege mentality will make the difference.........I hear people saying Dyche is always complaining.....good - it's just reinforcing that 'the world's against us' feeling

Overall, given the above I reckon we'll stay up 36 points will do it, in my view). Despite yesterday's (in particular) disappointment in conceding two late goals - keep the faith.

Roll on Saturday - looking forward to it.

If someone said we would go a month unbeaten after everton we would have taken that. Even if it was all draws!

All true and how easily a season can turn. We are now 3, away, games without a win.
Not posting that in a negative way but as you say, perspective.
We are still in a relegation battle and probably will be until late April.

With some hindsight (and more prespective) the more comforting thought is that Everton could well be the anomaly. We'd done very well over the previous few games and with a bit more luck could have easily picked up a point against Liverpool, Spurs and Arsenal.

Going into the Everton game we'd been playing well but with only the 3 points scrapped against Brighton to show for it. Everton (on the day) looked like an indication that the good performances in December were a blip and we were back to the early season shambles.

Now looking back we've been playing much more like "Burnley" since the end of November and the boxing day disaster was the lowpoint and anomaly.

Bitterly disappointed as I was last night, it really has to be seen as a real and unexpected bonus point. The games which are going to define our fate are the ones like Saturday. We simply HAVE to replicate recent performances in those games and because of our very poor showing in the Autumn, we have to accept that we've basically had all the off days we can afford!!
